I think I have a stress fracture in my foot

this is not good, not good at all.

I thought I pulled a muscle stepping on my bike pedal the wrong way, but now it feels more like a bone thing. my running shoes are wearing out and I did run 8 miles on them saturday, and saturday night is when the pain started. I played soccer on it last night under the influence of a LOT of advil. My medical friend said it could be a stress fracture and I was like "nah it feels like the muscle" but now, it feels like the bone.

anyone have this? how long did it take to heal? did you not run at all until it healed? I can't not run for several months!

Why can't you not run for several months?
Go see a doctor before you jump to diagnostic conclusions.
  • see a doctor. I am sure it will be fine. you can do other things for cardio.

    don't be so panicky!

yeah I know. I was just reading on webmd that if you have a stress fracture you have to rest it for "several months." I'm just panicing, because it is REALLY painful. I'll go to the doctor after my playoff game thursday night (while it's not worth doing damage to play in a rec soccer league, I love soccer games, I look forward to them all week). damn.

I've done some extensive medical research for you and it seems the only clear option is amputation. There's a place in BC Canada somewhere that will chop off your feet for free... or so I'm told.

Depends. Is it a left foot, or a right foot?

if there is point tenderness - you might be looking at a fracture ... if the pain is spread out but numbing - maybe not ...

if you press where you think it hurts and it creates a sharp pain - go get the xrays ...

I hear if you soak it in a mixture of epsome(sp?) salt and green tea, it will keep it from discoloring. Hope its not broken, I dont wish that on anyone...

    good tip, I'll try that.

I don't think soaking it in anything will help. though it has felt better with a hot compress, but if it's the bone I'll be switching to cold.

no no sharp pains when I press on it. that could be a good sign. though webmd says it's dull pain that gets worse while walking, which is sort of the case.

Yea I would go get some x-rays. If you keep playing on it, it's just going to keep getting worse so if it is, I would keep off it for a couple weeks.

A friend of mine got hit by a lady in her car on his motorcycle saturday. Has a chipped bone in his leg has to have surgery and will be off his feet for 2 months.

I wouldn't play around if I were you.

Is there any swelling or just pain? I had a stress fracture several years ago and it quickly swelled where the fracture was located.

Anyway, take the suggestions about not messing around, ESPECIALLY about waiting to play a game of soccer. Go get it x-rayed now and start taking care of it instead of trying to diagnosis it via the internet and make it worse. Also, try putting ice on it. I found that helped a lot. Good luck. :)

thanks. I'm having a hard time telling if it's swollen or not. right now, I don't think so. I'm going to switch to ice tonight.

Never underestimate the power of Green Tea or soaking it in something. GT is sneaky like that. Just when you think it is good for nothing, it can help you when you least expect it. Although proven time and again it isnt good for much, this could be something. just a thought. Good luck...I would forget about soccer for a while though. Should prob just stay indoors and get some rest and stay of it..imho

hmmm ... stress fractures are a bit different in that it usually takes the activity to highlight the problem ... but based on what you've said - it's quite likely that you have one although i'm no sports therapist ...

Didn't some other pit member always try to diagnose him/herself, and always have an excuse why modern medicine/conventional wisdom would never work for them?

Could turn out that I am wrong and it is good for nothing! No harm in trying something different though, right?

I've never tried it, but I guess rubbing it on your foot couldn't hurt ;)..

No, no, no.....they would self diagnose, ask everyone here for advice and then proceed to debunk it.

hey what is your problem? Where did I say that modern medicine wasn't going to work? And I wasn't trying to diagnose myself. I'm going to the doctor, but it's not like I can go to the doctor THIS MINUTE. And I talked to my friend who is a doctor. Why is everyone freaking out over this post, I was asking what other people's experiences were with stress fractures in case I have one, but everyone got all hostile. We've got people posting about oral sex and everything else under the sun, but we can't talk about stress fractures? This is ridiculous.
