i've held them, i've even gone to a female friends house to find one that was living in her basement and got it out for her.

but..... still an icky icky gross out factor for me.

so, my lawn mower has been down for a few weeks and we have had tons of rain. my backyard was over a foot tall.

im mowing , and think i ran over a fallen branch from the tree above.

NOPE, its a 5 footlong freaking black snake !! almost cut in half but the bastard was still alive and took a shot at me !!

i yelped like a little girl!! the guy next door was in his backyard and heard me, he thought i hurt myself or something. he came over to look at monster.
it was about as big around as a beer bottle. only about a half inch on it side was holding it together from being cut in half, and the big fucker was still trying to latch on to us!!

my heart rate is still up and its been about an hour !!!!

i need a beer!
Peace, Love.

I like snakes a lot. Been known to play with rattlers when I'm out in the hills. My friends think I'm crazy. Where do you live? I'm not familiar with a "black snake" outside of pornos. Are they poisonous?

black snakes are HUGE! I ran into a few of those guys hiking in north carolina.

I *ALWAYS* jump when I see a snake, even a little guy. I think it's because they are so dormant then you realize there's something alive there!

the part I don't like about your post is that your friend had one in her basement...shudder...I'm all for biodiversity as long as it stays outside.

omg....I have held them and stuff, but hate when one surprises me on the lawn and we only have garter snakes around our lawns.
You totally just creeped me out. I used to always think how gross it would be to run one over with the lawn mower.
Our cat Lola found one a couple summers ago and made it her plaything. lol

there is no way it was going to live. im serious, it just had a bit of flesh holding it together. i was trying to think of a way to get it in a bad and put it somewhere ( away from my house ) but the other guy that came over who owns snakes said it would die, so he killed it : (

i wont go into how he killed it cause it kinda pissed me off.
    Peace, Love.

Well I think it is better that he killed it to put it out of pain.
Seeing an animal or reptile in pain breaks my heart.

the guy that came over who owns like 20 snakes said that. not me. i dont know. but he said they strike almost as hard as a king rattle snake or some shit like that. he said it would actually knock you legs from under you, and could break it. like i said, idk. he could have been fool of shit.

I don't know about knocking you down and breaking your leg, but a black snake bite would NOT be fun. I think they have big teeth.

Those rumors probably started from people who once saw a black snake, freaked out, tripped over their dog's leash (or something), and broke their leg. They didn't want to admit that so they said the snake broke their leg.

Anyway, I'm glad you didn't get bit or have your leg bone snapped like a twig...

I couldn't copy the link, and I think it's from this week's show coming up, but on msn there's a video of Bear Grylls wacking a puff adder on the head, cutting the head off, and then just biting right into the body raw, scales and all.

We had one of these by our shed this weekend, a black racer. We have a lot of rabbits and moles and voles in our yard that would attract snakes. I hung out and watched it until it crawled under the shed. I assume it was because something is living under there, probably baby bunnies. My guess is that this what was in your yard, just one of the really big ones.
