    1) you do realize the euro is currently up on the dollar?
    2) the AVERAGE rent for a one bedroom apartment is about $1500/month in boston.

Is it really up on the dollar? I knew It was close. Yeah, I've been looking at apartments and they do seem quite pricey. But you seem to get a nice place for $1500 and the average rent in Dublin is about 1300euro...

eh, I'm not sure how "nice" you can get for $1500 anymore. that was the range I looked for last summer and most of what I could see for that price wasn't great (especially location-wise). I had to go $150 higher in the end. but I mean, it also depends on what you're looking for. I need to be within like a mile of the T and I was dead set on having a dishwasher. not a good combo around here.

Anyway, if you want to move to boston, I'm sure you'll like it. the one thing I have to warn you about is that in general PEOPLE ARE NOT THAT FRIENDLY. Especially in comparison to Irish folks, who seemed beyond friendly to me when I visited.

But I know that a lot of the people from ireland in the city all know each other- very tight knit groups of people who came from the same areas and stuff. pretty cool little community within a community.

I wouldn't say it's thriving...I don't see many Irish transplants workin' tech jobs out on 128 or wherever else. There are Irish people here, but they have no significant presence imo....no more than other groups anyway.
There are other sectors of the workforce besides the 128 tech belt.
    ;)
Construction has a pretty good number of Irish folk here. All Lee has to do is hit the Kinvara and he'll find plenty of folks from the homeland.

BAHAHAHAHAA unfortunately it's not called the Kinvara anymore. I actually don't know the new name.

Try the Irish Village (IV). You're bound to step in a paint can or hit your head on a ladder in that joint. I kid...I kid.

Oh for the love of Christ.. people will try to talk you out of ANYTHING!!

I live in Boston, I absolutely love it. Great social life- pretty easy to make friends (relative to San Francisco, where I lived last)- all around good city. I also have a beautiful apartment, high ceilings, lots of light, 3 bedrooms, good part of town and I pay under $2000 a month for it. Way under. If you're willing to look other places besides Craigslist, there's gold to be found.
I also have an 11 year old daughter, I raise her here in this fine city, send her to an amazing school & I wouldn't have it any other way.
And a car- I have a car too & park it for free. No problem.

If you're psyched about being here, Boston is awesome. It's like anywhere. It is what you make it.

Thanks! Thats what I was hoping to hear! And your place sounds amazing! I've been looking on Craigslist but as yet, I haven't ventured any further...do you live right in the heart of the city?

And your right, it is wot you make it ain't it?!

    Thanks again.

Hmm...yeah, I suppose its like searchin for a place anywhere else, its luck as much as anything else...

U think the people arent that nice? Everyone seemed real welcoming the time I was there. Like the barstaff and the likes and there was a general good atmosphere. Yeah, I know of a few that stayed last summer and they did say it was like a home from home kinda set-up

Some spots in ireland are super friendly but Dublin is getting more and more ignorant these days...

It is/was an irish pub in the Allston section of the city. Lots of native Irish used to hang there.
Apparently its under a new name now.
There are a few pubs which are frequented by Irish so I am sure if you desire you'll be able to find plenty of countrymen to tip a pint with.

there are several pubs scattered around that you'll be sitting there and eventually realize everyone around you has an accent.

the field in cambridge is a big one. I chatted with the owner for a while on st. paddy's day. he's from cork so a lot of the people that go there are from cork, I guess it kinda works like that, different pubs for different irish counties :).

From what I've heard from a lot of these people I've met at the pub, a lot of irish expats really help each other out moving here and stuff. as I said, everyone knows everyone and they hang at the same pubs and get up at 5am to watch rugby together, etc.
