Hey Y'all

So heres my story: I am an electronic engineering student from Ireland, I have one more year left at Uni which has got me thinking about what I plan to do with this life of mine...My girlfriend and I visited Boston last summer just after Lollapalooza and we both loved it! I'm mulling over the idea of leaving Ireland once I graduate to live in Boston. Anyone out there from Boston have any advice? Any engineers in Boston got advice? Would you recommend it as a place to live?!

Also, Average Engineering salary in boston: $88,000
Average Engineering salary in Dublin: 30,000 euro...say no more....

Plus, theres also the chance that I'd catch a PJ gig next summer in Boston hopefully:)

    Boston loves the Irish.
You could do worse than to live & work in Boston.

    Thanks kh65.

Boston do seem to have a love for the Irish right enough, they probably drink more guinness than we do:)

Hey, when I was Dublin they said Guinness produces 4 million pints a day and they only export 2 million to the world. Which means the Irish are drinking 2 million a day!!! :)

Wow! So Ireland consumes the same amount of Guinness as eveyone else added together! Thats mental. Come to think of it, I've walked down Grafton Street on a Saturday night and bumped into guys who look like they've had 2 million pints all by themselves....

Hey, I put my email in a PM to you. Hit me up for detailed Boston info when you want.

Yeah, you Europeans take drinking to a whole other level. I have German realtives so I know. They don't serve in pints they use liters.

...Yeah, I was suprised by the figure too... I'm sure thats not a graduate salary, possibly more a managerial figure..

Ah well, I wouldnt really do this for the money to be fair, but it would be a bonus!

    1. To me, Chigago seemed a lot more hustle bustle than Boston, but maybe thats cause I was only there for a short while. Also, theres nothing like seeing the ocean from boston:)

    2. Americans are always welcome over here! I'm sure youd feel right at home:)

I wouldn't recommend it if you're planning to raise a family, but it's cool otherwise. I do some support/engineering just west of the city. It works out pretty well...thriving music/art scene, younger population, etc etc...good stuff.

But I'd think carefully about it. It's a lot different living here than visiting here. And the culture is no more friendly to the Irish than it is to Indians...those days are done imo, so I wouldn't think of Boston as "New Ireland" or something.

Boston IS great, and there are a LOT of Irish people here.
    however:

"Also, Average Engineering salary in boston: $88,000

    1) you do realize the euro is currently up on the dollar?
    2) the AVERAGE rent for a one bedroom apartment is about $1500/month in boston.

There's still a pretty thriving Irish transplant population in/around Boston...I'm sure Lee will find plenty of compatriots here should he choose to make the move.
