I still think he's done. Not in a mean-spirited way.... I just do.

That being said, it's no more fair to say "I know that guy's on steroids" than it is to say "I know that guy's not (or wasn't) on steroids."

Well 2007 was probably his best year.
He hit .332 with an OPS of 1.066.

I guess all you look at is home runs.
Or was this just an "I hate the Red Sox" thread".

you're clueless, his wrist may still need another surgery because he came back to soon, and played through the pain. as for the juicing claim, that's plain ignorant.

If Delgado can come back like he did, there's no reason Ortiz can't.

Sorry... I do like Papi.... I just have a feeling his best years are behind him :(.

Just look at his stats before he joined the Red Sox. They aren't that great.

What would this accomplish? Papi was great  in the post season.

You could say he played injured and that put his odds against him but really, once you've made up your mind about Papi it isn't going to change.

I saw a twinkle in him in Game 5 but it has come and gone for him.

Would the break in the off season make him better? Only time will tell.

    He has the heart.

I'm more worried about Varitek at this point. One of my fav players besides Youk

Oh man... bro... I can't stand Youkolis, and Veritek has always sucked! Though he was expecially bad this year.

I guess I shouldn't be talking though, since my favorite player (former Red Sox) has a questionable future :(

First of all, I hate his batting stance. He looks like a fool, who in the world taught him to do that? He also gets this weird look on his face when he's at the plate - his mouth goes to one side of his face and is open on one half.

I also don't like crybaby's who throw their equipment when they get out. He even got mad at Manny when he told him to quit it!

Youkilis is a bad ass mofo! He was consistantly good the whole '08 postseason while everybody else was shakey at times.

He's so versatile. He's just as great on third as he is at first.
He did more than what he was asked to in replacing Lowell.

Youk has been a great defensive player but this season he finally showed he can hit as well, which was probably his only weakness before.

he was one of the key players that held the sox in that series.

i can't say too many bad things about his playability, sure he has a fucked up stance but that doesn't matter when you hit HR's

My 10 year old son LOVES Big Papi and was sad when Boston was eliminated the other day. So at his game last night, when he came up for his first at bat, he put the bat in his armpit, spit into his glove and clapped twice. It was hilarious.

He lined out to third. Dammit.

    Funny shit though.

  • I too fear Big Papi's best days are behind him...he is one of my faves. Obviously he played injured this season and he is to be commended for that, but a wrist injury to a power hitter, let alone one whose sole purpose is to hit, is not good. Trust me I hope as much as anybody he makes a return to form in 2009 but I ain't counting on it.
And it certainly didn't help any when Manny was no longer coming up right behind him in the lineup. Just stands to reason that he wouldn't get as many good pitches to hit...not that he could've hit them anyway this year.
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all

Just look at his stats before he joined the Red Sox. They aren't that great.

Actually Ortiz was better this year post Manny than with Manny.

    With Manny in 60 Games:

    .266/.360/.498 - OPS .858 14 HR 47 RBIs 40 Runs 12 Doubles

After Manny and with the wrist injury in 49 Games:

    .262/.381/.519 - OPS .900 9 HR 42 RBIs 34 Runs 18 Doubles

If he didn't miss 50 games with his wrist injury, He would have scored over 100 runs, had 45 doubles, 35 homers, and 125-130 rbis so I still think he's fine and a big producer.
