Jasper would take anything wrapped in cheese, I did have to give him some big pills once that he would kind of spit out of the cheese but then I crushed them up and rolled them up on the cheese slice.
    Good Luck.

Lukin has had several bad turns with tummy bugs and has had to take meds.

The vet immediately put him on a bland diet of plain boiled rice and plain boiled chicken breasts or thighs, NO SKIN. SO in order to get the pills into him I would just get a nice chunk of boiled chicken breast put a little slice into it and stuff the pill into that then hand feed it to him. He'd eat it with no problem. Maybe that would work? :)

I was meaning to ask you how Lukin is doing!!! Please post pics!!!!

I used to work at an animal hospital and for the dogs that needed pills that couldn't eat we did this:

Tools: Pill, syringe (you can buy one at the kitchen store)

    1. Fill up the syringe with water and have it close by to grab.
    2. Pry the dogs mouth open and throw the pill to the back of the throat.
    3. Close the dogs mouth as quick as possible so they can't spit it out. At this point they are going to struggle so you have act quick and don't let go of their muzzle.
    4. Take the syringe and force it under their lips towards the corner of their mouth. Squeeze all the water in the syringe into their mouth really quick.
    5. Repeat if necessary.

This does get messy, but it forces them to swallow the water and the pill at the same time. The more you do it, the less messy it is.

Good luck, they can be stubborn.

awwww first off, your doggy is too cute!

i don't know what to say as i (fortunately) have never had to give my dog vitamins or pills.

i haven't read the thread but, have you thought of what you're feeding her? i mean, my dog got sick when we gave her wet food. they say that the canned dog food is better for your dog and all that, but mine would get sick. we give her tuna now, and she loves it. my moms family has always had dogs, and always gave them human food (with exceptions of course). i think the whole dog food thing is for money, personally.

    maybe a switch in diet?

What’s the best way to give my dog a pill?

Getting your pooch to take medicine prescribed by your veterinarian can be tricky, but there are some ways to get the medicine down the hatch more easily. Next time you have to give your pet a pill, try one or more of these proven methods:

    * Crush the pill and stir in with food or a treat. Ask your vet before doing this to be sure it won't interfere with how the medicine works.

    * Coat the pill with butter, cream cheese, or peanut butter to make it slide down easily.

    * Ask your veterinarian about a pill pusher or a pill gun.

    * Look for a new product called pill pockets. These are soft and hollow treats that are designed with a pocket that conceals the medicine.

    * Just like fruit-flavored aspirin or vitamins now available for children, pills and liquids can be flavored by pharmacists to taste like your pup's favorite meat. Just ask your pharmacist.

If your dog is sick and not eating, try holding your pet in a towel, cradled like a baby, or straddle him from behind. Flick the pill to the back of its throat. Then rub his throat, an action that will urge him to swallow.

I put my dog in a sit, hold his upper jaw with one hand and push a butter coated pill to the back of his tongue and let him just swallow it. Petey has been on meds multiple times in his short 22 months, several times due to diarrhea at the same age as Gracie. Petey has IBS and can't eat dog food. He has been Raw fed since 20 weeks old, and no stomach problems since.

When she can eat again,I'd feed her boiled lean meat like chicken and turkey with rice should help bind her up. Pumpkin is good, but only canned pureed pumpkin, not the kind that is spiced up for pie. That can be given everyday....it is good for them. TBS a day.
