Maybe if neither team scores, Each get four downs from the opponents 30. no first downs. Then 20, then 10, then 5, then 1. ha ha. This will never happen in a million, but why not throw it out there. It makes you go endzone from 30 yards out if you want a TD (remember, no first downs), and if you dont get close enough, its a long enough field goal to make it interesting. Penalties and sacks can make the FG even longer.
A INT or fumble returned for a touch down ON THE FIRST SET OF DOWNS FROM THE 30 would not count as a TD but rather a change of possession (the other team would simply come out and kneel on the ball four times, and the only team penalized would be the first team to have the ball. not many teams would be throwing). After that, int TD's or fumble recoveries for a TD = game over.
Way too much detail, but the current OT rules just suck. Bad.
I meant that if after the first two possessions (as you outlined) and the teams are still tied to play the rest of OT as normal. So on your second possession in OT you could punt on 4th down. If the teams are still tied at the end of OT then a tie (even though ties are lame).d'oh0 -
the force out rule should be reviewable0
-
-get rid of the force out rule but change the rule so that receivers only have to get one foot down like in college
-allow any and all end zone celebrations (except those that involve "props")0 -
make the season 17 games so the pats can be perfect

Removing 5-yard face mask is dumb. Unless they will be able to call 5-yard hands to the face penalties, giving 15 yards every time a player accidentally gets his hands up is stupid.Cuyahoga Falls 98, Columbus 00, Cleveland 03, Columbus 03, Toledo 04, Grand Rapids 04, Kitchener 05, Cleveland 06, Cincinnati 06, Washington DC 08, Philadelphia IV 09, Columbus 10, Cleveland 10, Chicago 13, Pittsburgh 13, Cincinnati 14, Chicago (1) 16, Chicago (2) 160 -

Make TD celebrations mandatory. The refs would judge them on a scale of 1-6 which would translate to how many points the TD is worth.
jk
Seriously though, I love TD celebrations. The ball should be able to be used a prop.d'oh0 -

better yet, take away Fox's NFL privileges. Fox is terrible. There is too many sounds and crazy graphics. When it's 4th down your whole screen turns red and starts flashing. It's like a video game. But the one thing that drives me absolutely insane is when they have that graphic that makes the noise and shows you what down and the yardage to go is. They fucking put it on the field really big because people are too freakin lazy to move their eyes to the top of the screen and look at the down next to the score. I know it's a little thing, but it just proves that the entire Fox network treats us like we have a 40IQ. According to them we are all a bunch of ignorant sheep and need to be guided along while doing something so strenuous like watching a football game.
Plus, all Fox covers is the Eagles, Giants, Cowboys, and Redskins....blah blah blah0 -
The hair thing is ridiculous. How they gonna tell my boy Troy he's gotta cut the lettuce?
Keep the different face-mask penalties. In a contact sport there is always going to be intentional contact.
Officials could actually start calling the chuck rule (listening Pats?) after five yards.
As for differing PI penalties, I'm of the notion that, officials should not have more freedom to make judgement calls on stuff like that. I don't like the zebras getting more power than they already have.
My suggestions:
* Get rid of betting lines in newspapers. If you want to gamble, call your freakin' bookie or get on-line to a gambling site to get the information. Jeez, we all know the NFL is a gambler's league, but it seems hypocritical to say 'boo' to gambling and then print the lines on Thursdays or Fridays. Of course, newspapers would never go for it because degenerates buy the paper just to get the lines.
* Delay of game penalties for both offense and defense on excessive celebrations. It'll take some work, but they should come up with a 'do's and don't's' list in the league offices for officials to use.
* Actually enforce the 1:30 time limit on replay calls. How many times do they cut to two-minute commercial breaks and when they come back the official is still under the hood?
* 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down if anyone sacks Roethlisberger. With the way the Steelers' line is shaping up, the QB is going to need some extra protection."Almost all those politicians took money from Enron, and there they are holding hearings. That's like O.J. Simpson getting in the Rae Carruth jury pool." -- Charles Barkley0 -

I believe it's kind of the other way around, the refs have to at least llook at it for that long.
I agree with some of what some people said. I think force outs should be called though. If force outs were illegal, could you catch a player when he jumps for a ball and just run over to the sideline and dump him off? I can see making changes to it, but there are times when force outs aren't fair, even if it's rarely.
I'm surprised no one brought up field goals being reviewable. Being a Browns fan I agree with this. I would have been furious if the refs blew that call.
Here is the video for those that don't know what i'm talking about.

Watching that game with my family was awesome. The very first replay they showed my uncle and my dad were right in front of the tv yelling that it was good. It really makes me smile thinking back on it

i like the ot rules as is. it requires that a team has a team not just an offense. if youre defense cant make a stop or the special team allows a big return after coin toss then maybe youre team isnt that good. i know defense is usually more tired late in the game but oh well.0
