i understand people over simplify somethings and make other things more complicated than they need to be.

i don't think pro-choice people are pro-war,i was speaking only of politicians and the platforms they run for office on.

but if you say you are against abortion and taking a human life then turn around and commit genocide in Iraq then..yeah...that's bullshit & contradictory.

sometimes you can't help it. my aunt is one of these ignorant people who loves to pick political fights with me. I pretty much ignor her, but she loves to sit there and call me "a liberal" as if it's some kind of insult.

I have those kinds of people in my life too. They obviously just want to get you stirred up. I get sucked into that crap too sometimes, but I avoid it at all costs these days. What happens is you end up spending the whole night talking about politics with one person and everyone else is having fun. F THAT !

My aunt, uncle and 17 year old cousin from TEXAS came to Indiana to visit for the July 4th Holiday.

Of course I could not help but to talk politics with them, considering they are from TEXAS!

They KNOW NOTHING, could not discuss the war with me, had no facts about the devastion anywhere in the world, actually I would use the phrase "heads buried in the sand" to describe them. Not because they did not agree with me, but because they really didn't even know what I was talking about.

But, they know one thing for sure, they are voting for Mcain, Why? Well because he's pro life, and Obama is not. They are catholic's, their choice for president makes as much sense as being able to go commit a sin and then set in a box and be forgiven!

My 17 year old cousin actually used the words, "Obama scares me!" But could not tell me specifically why he scares her, just things she's heard.

Does this make anyone else's blood boil, like it did mine?

I am supposed to go to their house for Thanksgiving, but since I am a vegetarian and they are serving turkey, I think I am going to stay home simply because I believe in pro life for the turkeys!

This sounds as stupid, as voting for a president who believes in staying in a war, killing people. But is pro-life???????? :(

Now, you can slam me all you want, but I just needed to vent and I couldn't talk to anyone in my family about how much this bothers me!

Have you stopped to consider that maybe they really do have a clue, and don't want to get in to an argument with family? Maybe they are tired of your hippy CNN inspired talking points, and it's easier to just keep their mouth shut? Maybe they are all laughing right now about how you have no clue!?!? Maybe they are even posting about it on a creed message board?

You're just playing a semantics game with the term pro-life! To clarify, use anti-abortion, and pro-abortion (or pro-baby murder) instead. Babies never attacked the WTC, so equating them to terrorists in Iraq or Afghanistan doesn't work. Why don't people understand that there are people on this planet that want to kill Americans? We can either fight them here, or fight them "over there."

Plants are alive too; you kill plants just like you kill a turkey to eat!

well if you believe in the bullshit Gov story about 9-11 you'd know the alleged hijackers were from Saudi Arabia not Iraq or Afgahnistan

seeing as the people you are referring are in Washington DC not the middle east that would be "over here".
but i doubt you believe OR understand that.

I agree on principal. But you can be against abortion and think it's ok to kill in the name of defending America (even if it means innocent civilians are killed). So, it's not enough to say you're a bad pro lifer if you support the war in Iraq - maybe politicians and the press need to make a better distinction between prolife and just anti-abortion. I guess my point was that abortion, as with most issues, are much deeper than labels and generalizations lead on...
I smile, but who am I kidding...

I am the only conservative in a very hippie/liberal restaurant. I cannot discuss politics with anyone I work with because they are the most closed-minded/judgemental people I have ever met in my entire life.

Anytime a political conversation comes up, I leave the room. They don't know I'm not one of them. The other day they were talking about the NRA, the constitution and the right to bear arms and I overheard one say, "Charleton Heston - when he died- I believe he needed to." Are you kidding me???
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

Oh, you are one of those nuts who think that 9-11 was an inside job, despite all the evidence to the contrary? Who cares where the hijackers were from? Osama is not from Afghanistan! He was exiled from Saudi Arabia, maybe some of his followers went with him? Maybe he recruited from other countries? Where they are originally from has NO bearing on this discussion.

What I can't understand is what you are even trying to say here?!?! I'm sure it was an excellent point though!
'why don't people understand that there are people on this planet that want to kill americans'
I guess in your world everyone is happy, and loves each other?

Oh I get it now.... 9-11 was in inside job. There actually is nobody who wants to hurt us. George Bush went to war for oil. America is the great Satan, yet you still live here. I see now, you've had too many Heinekens!

You sure do ASSUME a lot, and I don't watch CNN, so quit trying to label me so that you feel more secure in yourself. I actually voted for Bush twice, so I have more of a reason to be pissed then anyone because the fucker lied, lied and lied some more and I believed it, now I have friends who are DEAD for NO REASON!!!!

Iraq would be better without us and we would be better for it, we may have actually caught Bin Laden by now, if we would have focused on the real enemy! Those are the facts! If you don't believe me, quit watching FOX news and read the soldier blogs and educate yourself!

Now back to my ORIGINAL POINT, which was never about abortion. I was just extremely pissed off that people could vote for a president simply because he is pro life. I don't really care about anyone's stance on pro life or pro choice, I just can't get over the fact that you could base a vote simply on that, given the time we are living in!

After your first paragraph, I just started laughing, thanks for that, but obviously I am trying to have an adult discussion so I cannot respond to the rest of it.

yeah I try not to discuss politics with family, friends or coworkers..lol. It's rare that everyone is on the same page and it leads to awkwardness. I was at my cousin's for a BBQ and he was going off about how if you don't support the war in Iraq you are unpatriotic. I kept my mouth shut.

I brought my girlfriend to a large family gathering yesterday....after introducing her to like 20 people, I realized that my family is pretty solid. No one is embarassing...maybe a bit annoying, but I am thankful that everyone is educated and on the progessive side!

Only one cousin said "Kudos to you for being able to put-up with Joe!"

We had the lovely family dinner to visit with my sister in law and nephew from Colorado. Unfortunately, my father in law and sister in law had had about enough of each other and I found it necessary to escape with her to Wal-Mart in order to create some cooling off space for her. I hate Wal-Mart, so I hope she knows that I really like her if that's the only excuse I could come up with in a hurry to get her out of the house. :)
