If you start to get prolonged flu-ish symptoms, or if your headaches start to feel worse and dizzyness comes, maybe you could mention the possibility to your doctor? You could say a friend went through it so you were just concerned.
Don't worry yourself though. It all took a long time for it to set in. At first I just thought it was stress/anxiety, and then in its later stages, it felt like flu. You do know that with a short stay in hospital, the doctors can measure the pressure of your brain to check it's at a safe level? Something you might want to ask about.

Yep. That's normal.
(Warning for those who are squeamish)
There's a part on my chest where you can feel it underneath the skin and it just feels like the thin tube that it is; underneath the head though it feels like a proper bump. I have a feeling it's to do with how much tissue/muscle is around certain areas; that'll vary in different parts of the body, making some parts feel thicker.
I hope that makes some sense.
I don't mind you asking questions at all. It's just nice to know someone else with this weird condition.

How big is the bump, i have one that feels like a like a hard piece of rice or the size of rice on the head that is at the beginning of my shunt.

Yep, well then my bump is bigger than your bump Slightly thicker and more pronounced since they put the new one in, but only (I'm guessing) because the area swells ever so slightly in order to accommodate it. But yes, it is hard. They probably all vary slightly; depending how your head 'took' to the shunt.
'Don't need a bandage.... got a hard, hard head.'

Im thankful for being a Leafs fan, now if they could make the playoffs
Don't lose the faith...it's coming.
I'll might be getting one of those shunts installed for a few days. Endoscopically delicious I hear.
I can't wait.

A little foreign entity growing up there in the grey matter. Should have it promptly ushered out and floating in a jar in the upcoming months.
No worries though. Just a flesh wound.

You're a couple hours from me west along the 401. Neurosurgeon, and Neorologist appt's do take some time. Can be frustrating.

My dentist has a TV screen on the ceiling so you can watch TV or pick out a movie before hand while they drill away. I don't remember what I picked this one time, but it was no so soft core porn, so they were trying to figure out why I was laughing after about 5 minutes. They stopped I pointed up, the assistant blushed, boobs and ass were bouncing, the dentist was puzzled and embarrassed...starting making all minds of excuses...
I love when stuff like that happens to me.

I have Hydrocephalus too. I have a Ventricular placement shunt (vp shunt for short. I had no idea that their were a few others on here with this condition.
I have never thought of it as a disease.
I have had 7 shunt surgeries. I'm 26, and have been A+ since 2001.
Just in case people want to know, People with shunts live fully happy normal everyday lives.
Very rarely does someone ask about the tube on the inside of my neck. If they do I don't care, but it is just difficult to fully explain Hydrocephalus to people sometimes. LOL

My boyfriend has a cerebral shunt. Harmless_little-f*** on here. Hydrocephalus is hard to explain to anyone, I had to do it with my kids. They get it now (I think)
A friend of mine growing up was born with hydrocephalus and also had a shunt (going to her stomach).
She was also on anti-convulsion medication because she was getting seizures as a result of her Hydrocephalus. I know she's had 3 or 4 surgeries...the last of which was when she was like 14ish.
My only problem with the situation was that her parents never told her what was wrong with her until her last surgery. She had to wear a helmet in elementary school and she was picked on so bad (kids are so cruel...and some teachers too). At least if she knew WTF was wrong with her she coulda defended herself a little more and maybe helped a few people understand her better.
I know she has some learning disabilities, is a little socially awkward, still gets migranes sometimes (as of 10 years ago...lost touch with her after my dad died), can't be hugged too tightly and can't have children. The doctors told her that if she got pregnant that as the baby grew it would crush her tubing and could kill her.
She is a sweet girl but this thing sadly left her alienated much of her life because people didn't understand why she wasn't as smart as others, why she had to wear a helmet, why she couldn't participate in some gym activites, etc. I blame her parents mostly for that because if they were more open about things then she would have been more prepared to handle the cruelty and the questions people asked her.
That said I dunno if all her issues are from hydrocephalus but thats the only medical condition I am aware of that she has and her twin sister doesn't have anything that she does.
Last time we spoke she still lived at home, but did have a full time job and was very happy.
I'm really happy hearing your stories and that not everyone who has this condition has this kind of experience. I commend you all for having such a great attitude about your condition and are able to live normal great lives
