Switzerland's progress is fun to watch and they will be a country that will challenge traditional hockey countries like Finland and Slovakia even more in the future.

little bit of a setback this year, as they were relegated to Division 1 next year, while Kazakhstan is staying in the top division for a consecutive year for a change

  • What's the age range for these kids? I work with someone who's son is a sick hockey player and due to my lack of knowledge on the game I just wonder if I'll ever see him on one of these teams

Ok. This kid is only 14 but I guess he's being recruited back east for all these big hockey schools, which, I guess is a pretty big deal him being from California. Dunno

The US really needs to spend more time on preaching a team game here, they need to get past this mentality of being a bunch of sour-pusses when they don't win

although it is amusing to see, since it's anathema to their usual overall arrogance

add bullying to that and it pretty much sums up the reputation Canadian teams have on the international junior scene in hockey. One reason why i root for the more modest Swedes...

ive never ever heard that the Canadians have a rep for being bullies.. hmmm. well anyways. Canadian hockey players rock. ;)
  • I don't mean Canadians in general but the hockey teams who come here, especially at young age, tend to think that us euros are so soft that trash talk and stuff like banging the doors of the locker room etc. scares the shit out of us.

They usually have that intimidating attitude, because they know they are good. I never even played in the national team but in junior club tournaments whenever a canadian team was around they made their presence felt by the little things before a game. I know it's a tactic but the affect usually was the opposite and everyone wanted to shut them up on the ice...with little luck usually :D

This year before the first game against Sweden a couple of Swedish players went to watch Canada's pre game practice and the players started shooting pucks against the glass behind which the Swedes were and shouted insults at them, which probably gave Sweden some extra edge for the game I think.

Not a big deal but just something i don't appreciate that much.

Still I'm hoping for a good and tight game. If Canada wins they've deserved it for sure.

I appreciate your more detailed response, but I must add

if you want to see bullies, find some footage of the 1975-1976 Philadelphia Flyers

you will never use that term to describe another hockey team again

Hehe well there's a difference to bully or to be downright criminal. On the ice Canadians were fair and tough and fun to play against, it was just all that other nonsense...and the dominance on the ice that has made me the bitter old former hockey player i am today :D

Btw who is in goal for Canada?

If Sweden can withstand the rush (see rush; the band) Canadians usually start the game with they have a good chance, but if Canada takes the lead by 2 goals or more I can't see Sweden having the tools to really challenge after that. Basically Canada wants to strike early to kill the opponents trap and get the momentum going. Sweden will probably just wait for power plays and counter attacks
