t depends on what & where u download fromTour with fucking NOFX0 -
I download a little music, but no movies or tv shows. Mostly unreleased stuff with the occasional album download for sampling. Every few months I go through and delete the stuff that I don't care for and most of the other stuff I try to buy w/in the next few months.
Has anybody with a sizable collection of hard copy music been caught. Just curious if they would treat somebody that pirated all their music harder than someone, like me, that has spent a nice little fortune on music.
I would like to see them do something about the early leaks. There is something cool about hearing the songs so long before most people, but first impressions are so important, esp for music. And often the leaks aren't even the finished product. How long have people known the songs from Chinese Democracy? I have heard 3 or 4 versions of some songs, and not one of them is as good as the finished product.
I can't think of an album I have had to wait for the release date on, in awhile. It's a victory when the the cd makes it to the store before some kid steals it out of the back room, goes home and dumps it on to the internet, a week before release. How many albums has itunes "accidentally" put up for sale early,0 -
If anyone here has downloaded a PJ album and not gone out and bought it, they should be shot*Official Marker in the Sand Fan Club Junkie*

dontloseyourheat wrote:So today I received a notification that I have been caught illegally sharing copyrighted files. My university shut off my internet access so I had to go to IT to sign a form in order to get it restored. The form wasn't an admission of guilt but basically said I have been notified. While there, the guy couldn't give me much information but said I basically have to wait around and see if I get sued or not. Most people that are sued settle for around $3,000-$4,000. He also told me that there is no timetable, some people have been sued 2 years after getting initally caught.
If , umm, hypothetically, I was doing this, it would have been using a torrent client to download tv shows and an expensive engineering program. Also, I would have been using Peer Guardian under the belief that it drastically reduced the chance of getting caught.
I don't want this to become a debate of the morality of downloading, but I was just wondering if anyone has experienced a similar situation.
my brother is the first person i know to ever get caught. the first time it was because he downloaded a specific movie. he recieved a cease and desist letter from the internet provider. he called them up and told them that it was a virus (in the letter it said to disregard and call if you had no knowledge and if you believed it was a virus).
well, he continued to download and got caught again and immediately had his internet shutdown...no legal issues though. he has since had the internet turned back on.
after downloading Balls of Fury last year, i recieved a cease and desist naming the exact movie. come to find out it is movies released through a specific company.
Esther's here and she's sick?
hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks0 -

What ISP do you have? Because I live in Ontario, and Bell most certainly limits download speeds, usually from around 5pm to midnight on weeknights.0 -
Let's not forget the 'taping music from the radio' scandal in the 90's. Look how that RUINED the recording industry and made all bands bankrupt!0

the way i understand it is they go after the people who are SHARING files. if your using a torrent, your screwed either way because in order to download, you have to be uploading at the same time, correct? so there's no way around that. so you use something like limewire where you don't HAVE to share files, just go on and see who has what, but maybe use peer guardian or something anyway. My favorite Pearl Jam song: "Corporate Greed Boat Asshole Behind a Counter in the Oval Office"0

Saw someone ask "if you're not downloading torrents, what are you using"
One word: newsgroups. You don't have to upload anything, and download speeds are fast as shit since the files are hosted on a server. It's not free, but $30 or so a month for unlimited downloading can't be beat.Bob Loblaw's Law Blog: "Why should YOU go to jail for a crime someone else noticed?"0 -
I download almost all my music from blogs. No chance of getting into any shit there. If you run one and someone sends a message asking for the files to be removed, you can just do it.
That said, the UK is far more relaxed about this."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

I wasn't saying other artist don't matter. What I was saying was if you are a poster on this board you clearly are a HUGE PJ fan. The people on here that are illegally downloading should at least be buying PJ's albums because of how much of a fan they are. Don't take it so literal.*Official Marker in the Sand Fan Club Junkie*

If it bothers you, don't download the leak. I stopped doing it. 2 years ago I got everything before release. Now I wait.she was underwhelmed, if that's a word0
