I was at Mario Lemieux's last game in Pittsburgh during the 1997 playoffs. The Pens were down 3 games to none but forced it back to Philly by pulling out the victory. Lemieux scored on a breakaway with a minute or so to go and the place went nuts.
Of course he came out of retirement in 2000 and took a little bit of that away from me because I can't say I saw his last home game anymore :(
By far and away the best sporting event was the 2005 Champions League Final in Istanbul between AC Milan and Liverpool.
AC were 3-0 up at half time and coasting and somehow the Reds came out, got back to 3-3 and won on Pens after extra time. All the goals and pens were scored directly in line with my seat.....what a night

wow, you were at that? what a game!
My best were mainly rugby:
Ireland v France in Croke Park... first 'foreign game' played there... what an atmosphere... shame about the result though.
Ireland v All Blacks in Lansdowne road... 2nd row and two seats from the halfway line... had to walk on the pitch to get to my seats while the teams were warming up  again though, shame about the result
Ireland v Australia in Lansdowne rd. second last rugby game there! Was fucking freezing and pissing rain and held in what was practically a hurricane... but possibly the best game of rugby I've ever seen... and for once the result was good
Cavan v Kerry in the 97 All Ireland semi final possibly the only time my county will ever get to croke park and we got hammered... but still, the anticipation around that game was amazing.
The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
Verona??? it's all surmountable

Game 5 of the 2006 World Series St. Louis Cardinals vs. Detroit Tigers.
Was a fluke to be there because game 3 was rained out and got moved to that date...so I went from getting to see a World Series game to being there for the Cardinals World Series win!!!!!!!!!!
1992 - Lollapalooza - St. Louis 1994 - St. Louis 1998 - St. Louis 2000 - St. Louis 2003 - St. Louis 2007 - Lollapalooza - Chicago 2008 - Eddie Vedder Solo - Chicago 2010 - St. Louis 2011 - Eddie Vedder Solo - St. Louis 2014 - St. Louis 2016 - New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival
1998 ALCS - Game 6 - Yanks vs Indians - Yanks win to go onto the WS.
1997 Eastern Conference Quarter Finals - Game 3 - Rangers vs Panthers - Esa Tikkanen game winning goal in 2OT (Luc Robitaille scored with like 12 seconds left in regulation to send it to OT.)
2007 Eastern Conference Quarter Finals - Game 5 - Rangers vs Devils - Rangers win to advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
2004 - Mike Richter night at MSG. Watched #35 go to the rafters.
Runners up include game 6 of the 1986 ALCS and game 5 of the 1986 World Series (which was tarnished by the subsequent events of games 6 and 7, so Black Diamond got to revel in my misery)
Unfortunately I attended Super Bowl XXXII this past February. While it was a historic sporting event, the outcome was not to my liking.
Other highlights: watching the Minnesota Twins turn 2 triple plays in one game at Fenway Park.
Game 5 of the NBA first round between Celtic and pacers when larry Bird was slammed to the court and left the game, returning later to lead the Celts back to win the series. The last bastion of a legend.
I have been to some really good hockey games, but the one that I keep going back to is Mario Lemieux's last home game before his first retirement in the 1997 playoffs against Philly.
The crowd was on their feet for him every shift in that third period. When he got the breakaway in the last minute and scored, the building was shaking it was so loud.
My whole life
was like a picture
of a sunny day

2. Stanley cup game #5 1990 (Oilers win without the great one and I still have Muni's stick)
3. U.S. open 1993 Sunday (lee jantzen and payne stewart go head to head for 18 holes at Baltusrol).
4. NCAA basketball Syracuse vs. Georgetown Feb. 1990 Carrier dome-SU wins in triple overtime. I get home to watch Buster Douglas kick Tyson's ass-great day of sports.
5. Patriots vs. Oakland Raiders-the "snow bowl." 2002-choice seats on the 40-lower level-Incomplete pass-hahahaha.
seen a few great baseball games and knicks games, but those are my top five.
The atmoshpere in Indianapolis and New Orleans, respectively, were great. Lots of excited and passionate fans ready to see their team play and hopefully win.
Best Individual Games:
College basketball: Tennessee 63 - Winthrop 61; First Round of 2006 NCAA Tournament
College basketball: Winthrop 66 - Clemson 61; 2001 regular season game
College football: South Carolina 37 - Alabama 36; 2001 regular season game
College football: South Carolina 31 - Clemson 28; 2006 regular season game

Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals - got to see my Canes hoist The Cup
Game 2 of the 2nd Round in 2006 - Canes vs. Devils - Both teams score in the last minute of regulation. Staal sent it into OT by scoring with 2.8 seconds on the clock. The Canes won on an OT goal by Nick Wallin. My ticket stub from the game is signed by Staal.
Lots of great Carolina basketball games including Michael Jordan's high scoring game (39 points) for his college career.
1. May 19 2008 - Red Sox vs. Kansas City - Lester throws no hitter.
2. Game 3 2003 ALCS - Red Sox vs. Yankees. Bench clearing brawl, Pedro Throws Zimmer into the ground.
3. Game 3 2004 ALDS - Red Sox vs. Angels. Ortiz walk off home run to win ALDS.

nothing major as far as must see games for me. yankees vs. mariners in may of this year (first time for me at yankee stadium).
syracuse orange vs. boston college in boston (ncaa football). bc was supposed to steamroll syracuse and win the big east title in their last season with the big east, only to have syracuse beat the ever loving shit out of them. probably the best college football game i've ever been to.
carmelo anthony's last home game at the carrier dome in '03 (set an attendance record for single college game).
that's all that comes to mind for me. there are a couple other SU football games that were great that i was at, but nothing compares to that bc game in boston.
NLCS Clinching game 1988 - Dodgers vs Mets...Hershiser threw a gem
Cleveland Indians game in 2007 when they were down by like 9 runs....they
almost came back to win
Super Bowl XIV (1980) - even though the Rams lost, it was nice to see them finally make the big game
Tottenham vs Bolton 2002 - after watching the British Premiership on television, it was amazing to actually be at a match..I was still a bit jet-lagged, so I was a bit fuzzy.
Cal State Northridge vs UCLA Men's Basketball - I often felt like an outcast for not getting into UCLA, so it was great to see my school defeat them!
Toronto Bluejays vs Angels in 2006 in Toronto - I was thrilled to see that the Canadians followed the rules in baseball, unlike their crazy version of Football!
1984 Summer Olympics - saw USA vs Egypt in Basketball, as well as a soccer match. Nice international vibe!
there are probably a bunch of others, but I can't single-out any more.
Ohio High School Wrestling State Championships. Nothing like it.
Except for Pennsylvania (PIAA) Wrestling Championships in Hershey, PA.
Best single game I've ever been to was 2005 Penn State vs. Ohio State 17-10 victory at Happy Valley. I was in the student section with the infamous "White Out."
