    Peace

the problem is now it counts for home field advantage in the world series - i don't think the fans voting should help determine that. I mean come on, should the Rays be penalized because the bandwagon sox fans voted all their stiffs in (not a Rays fan just taking a shot at the sox)?

I'd be okay with 7 Red Sox if they were deserving. But the Sox fans embarrassed themselves by stuffing the ballot box for the inferior Pedroia. There's one stat that pedroias better at tha Kinsler: Walks. And whoever added varitek should be ashamed of themselves. I want to hear what he has to say about this. they say he's a standup guy: If that's the case, he'll admit he should need to buy a ticket to get into yankee Stadium next week. You can make a stronger case for Youkilis, but I think Morneau was more deserving. maybe we'll get to see some of that patented whining, bitching, and crying that Youkilis is known for on the National Stage. Wait, we just saw it tonight.

The worst part is that it was the players that voted for Varitek to be put on the roster. I think he has the worst average of all 14 starting AL catchers, but he's gotta be an all-star, he's a Red Sox right? Give me a break.

And for the fans to stuff the ballots with the likes of Pedroia and Ortiz (who's been out for over a month) is laughable. Guess Sox fans are all internet nerds. The only one who deserves to be on the team is Lowell and he's the only one left off.

I guess the players of the American League who voted Varitek in should be ashamed of themselves. I mean the player's chose Varitek to make the Allstar game - not Francona and not the fans so I guess the entire American League should be ashamed of themselves today. ;)

That said, I think there is no way in hell Varitek should have made the team. ;)

    ha ha...

actually, he has the worst average of any catcher in the majors. bench, starters....every one of them. the absolute worst catcher. totally doesnt deserve to be there. horrible year.

Sox fans are just that, fans. they do what it takes to get their players in. Besides, the fucking players voted Varitek in, not the fans.

To the four devil ray fans out there, brace yourself for a 4th place finish in AL east.

Pedroia deserves to be there. Hes a daily highlight reel himself and he hits the shit out of the ball.
All that's sacred, comes from youth....dedications, naive and true.

It would be really, really cool if Rivera started the game, and pitched the first two innings, but that'd probably mean that Papelboner would close it, and I'm not crazy about that.

As a Sox fan, I agree that Varitek should have been nowhere near the list. But what about Mike Lowell? he had an injury but still leads the team in RBIs

Pedroia's 5 errors to Kinsler's 16 needs to be taken into account as well.
The difference in offensive numbers between Pedroia and Kinsler is similar to the gap between Jeetz and Michael Young, so did the Yanks fans embarrass themselves voting in Jeter?

Varitek does not belong, but that falls on the players, not tha fans and not Francona.

    The key portion:
    Flattered? Or embarrassed?

“There’s a level of (embarrassment), but this was a player vote, so there’s a level of appreciation, too,” Varitek said. “It’s still an honor.”

He has no soul. I still remember him saying that if Tampa gave him a contract so he could get his 3,000th hit that he'd go into the hall as a D Ray. Luckily the HOF doesn't let players decide what hat they were unless a player spent equal time with 2 franchises.

Oh, I'm sure next time Boston gets the game he'll wear a Sox hat. Hopefully Sox fans don't forget tonight when that happens. I'm kind of glad the Sox didn't retire his number.

You know the answer to that, baseball is a game based on tradition ... and will be so for at least for the next 20 years.

It'll be intersting when all the Free Agency era guys start making the hall and there's such a lack of the tradition to hold onto that this game was so drenched in for nearly 100 years.

they don't normally go to such great lengths as they did tonight. Usually it's just the All Stars and a hometown hero. The last time i remember there being that many greats was Fenway 99, when they did the Team Of the Century deal. It would have been nice to see some more Yankee luminaries though. Lets see Bernie, O'Neill, brosius, Tino, etc... Not HOF'ers obviously, but they mean more to Yankee Stadium than most guys that were out there tonight.
