Jason Varitek and his .219 batting average has no business being at an All Star game.

I agree with you Frank, I'm pretty pissed about how Yadier Molina didn't make the team. He's hitting .307 before the game today for christ sake. But instead there's a bunch of Cubs on the team. Don't get me wrong, they're deserving, but Molina works his ass off and is the best defensive catcher in the game. Oh well whatcha gonna do..

as a diehard red sox fan:

j.d. drew should be starting over manny this year.

agreed that varitek has no business being there.

pedroia's havin a good year and has been on a tear lately, but ian kinsler should be starting at 2b.

I'm not so sure that the fans should vote... they tend to just vote for favorites.

It's a fan's game the All Star game and the voting should be left to the fans regardless if they get it right.

I think the fans should vote for each position like they do now. But that shouldn't make them the starter. It should just get them on the roster IMO.

All sports should do this. That way people like Yao Ming wouldn't always lead the West in voting just because so Many people in China are voting. Don't get me wrong, he's an all-star, but He'll always start at Center, regardless of the season he's having.

that's fine when the game is just an exhibition, which it should be. But you can't make the game "matter" then have abominations like this. 11 wins and you get left home, hit .217 and you're an All star. And don't give me the defense line. Throwing counts

I'm sorry, but Mike Mussina should have at least been considered...

And Jason Varitek making it is a joke...he's simply awful this season...people are voting for him only because he's on the (for now) beloved Red Sox.

And as a Yankee fan, I will admit that Jeter probably does not deserve to start...every time up it's either a strikeout or a double play for him.

I just hope Giambi makes it....THE PORN STASH IS IN, PEOPLE!!!

I don't know why Mussina didn't make it. He might be comeback player of the year.

I'm curious if there have been many other 11 win pitchers who didn't make the team in recent history. or a pitcher who was tied for 2nd in wins, MLB wide.

i dont understand how he didnt make it either. hes having a hell of a season that is definitely all star-worthy.

I think the problem for him was the player from every team rule. They had to get an Oriole, a Royal, so they took Soria and Sherrill. This team actually has 5 clsoers. But I think Moose deserved it over Ervin Santana, even though Ervin's been good. Throw in the fact that the games at yankee Stadium.....

BTW, bad enough they left him off the roster. They didn't even include him in the vote for the last addition to the team. Giambi? I know he's hit lately, but I think 11 wins and a ERA of 3.64 is more of an all star that a .250 hitter. Jose Guillen? Longoria? hey, I'm a big fan and have him in 2 money leagues, but his stats are comparable to Aubrey Huff at this point. he's gonna be an MVP someday, but you don't put guys on the AS team because of what they will be.

i think that giambi and muss should be on it. its at yankee stadium for fuck's sake. its crazy that there are seven red sox on the team. i might be bias, but i just think that there should be more yankees given the circumstances.

also, mo should close out the game!

I'd be okay with 7 Red Sox if they were deserving. But the Sox fans embarrassed themselves by stuffing the ballot box for the inferior Pedroia. There's one stat that pedroias better at tha Kinsler: Walks. And whoever added varitek should be ashamed of themselves. I want to hear what he has to say about this. they say he's a standup guy: If that's the case, he'll admit he should need to buy a ticket to get into yankee Stadium next week. You can make a stronger case for Youkilis, but I think Morneau was more deserving. maybe we'll get to see some of that patented whining, bitching, and crying that Youkilis is known for on the National Stage. Wait, we just saw it tonight.

I agree... but Voquez will probably get the start.

I think it would be hard to argue with either getting the start. Imagine Volquez pitching to Josh hamilton in the 1st of 2nd inning. Who'da thunk it?

So.. essentially the All-Star game is the Red Sox vs. the Cubs.

I'm willing to bet Tampa Bay could kick either of those two "all-star" teams asses.

And seriously, no White Sox pitchers? One of the best pitching staffs in baseball!

Considering the Yankees, you have to think that if Matsui wasn't injured, he would've made it as a reserve...perhaps even Damon...both are batting above .320, I believe.

Now you know how we all felt about Torre loading the roster.

Mike Lowell should be there. Varitek should be at home.

There are guys there who shouldnt be and guys not there who should be. Happens every year.

At the end of the day, all that matters is that the Cubs will be playing the Red Sox in the World Series.
