They apparently say that about uni too.
Here is my take on it.
I get a little...I don't know how to say it nicely....frisky? after eating sushi. It is like the perfect combo of protein and carb...more protein..add in a glass or 2 of red wine...oh my.
There's a couple of good places near me if you're ever over the pond
'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'
But today, I tried sushi from the grocery store....somebody recommended it to me....it's half the price of a high end sushi bar, and it was pretty decent! Made fresh daily. This group was called Tsunami something....nationwide group of sushi chefs that cater only to grocery stores....this particular one was in Kroger.

I am bringing Steve when we go. He will keep me in line.
I used to think sushi was expensive until I went to Korea and other places in Asia.
It really isn't. You just have to pick and choose what you like. I would rather spend a little more on sushi for lunch than some junk from a drive thru. ick.
And you will feel so much better.....yummmy
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
Oh yeah....with the thinly sliced avocado draped over it???
Oh my.
I love sashimi too. My friend Craig and I like to go out for someone's birthday and order a boat because we dig the sashimi..eveyone else, not as much. So we are eating like royalty.
There is an awesome place in CT called Jerry Sans....awesome!
Also some good places in Westport like TaiPan and Tengda.
Yeah that's the one...texture...flavor...perfect.
There used to be 4 of us that would order in Sushi at work at least twice (sometimes more) a week...for several months. It was getting really bad. The place moved locations so we had to start going out for it...blessing in disguise really. We were hitting the sushi wall...heh
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

It's taken me 5 years to love sushi, but now I cannot get enough of it. Spicy tuna roll, oh man. Seared Ahi, mmmmmm. I crave this stuff now. I gave up about worrying about the cost. Gotta enjoy a few things in life and eating good food in one of them.

good sushi does not have to be expensive, but it does cost a lot more than most foods
really good sushi is expensive, very expensive if the chef makes it for you, omakase style
especially tuna, the real mccoy is VERY expensive
most likely you are eating ahi/yellowfin tuna that has been treated and not bluefin-which is more highly sought after and more expensive
same with farm raised fish vs wild
Authentic japanese red snapper is around $5-$6 per piece, be very afraid if its less.
At cheaper places, I stick to rolls with cooked food or even vegetables only.
I eat in NYC so good sushi is expensive-best deal in town-for premium fresh made sushi:
HATSUHANA pick ten: $35 for ten pcs and one roll-four star restaurant
best traditional sushi: Sushi Yasuda (MAJOR $$$)
best nouveau sushi (nobu style but much better): Sushi of Gari ($$$$)

My sushi place is under no pretenses that it's serving Yellowfin (it says Yellowfin on the menu) but no matter, it's still good shit.

not trying to be elitist, trying to educate!
I actually learned a lot from the Japanese chefs in NYC, they dont talk in Japan!
you will just have to come down to NYC for some sushi!
bring the camera and you can get those pics you asked for
Thanks for asking! I am boring, I always get the California roll now (if I have to get just one).
At a restaurant I usually get something different all the time, alongside the familar staple of California. I like the tempura stuff- fried?? Yum yum. A bit pricier but oh so worth it!
