Of course I would like for it to be cheaper, who wouldn't??? But I would like to say this. While I think it is an awesome product, $140 +$50 p.h equals nearly 300 Aussie dollars. So it is quite expensive. However in terms of the quanity you get, probably fair enough and it something I would like to add to my Pearl Jam collection.
I will finish by adding that one person can not really judge what is expensive and what is inexpensive. People have mortgages, need to support a family etc. We are all hardcore fans, but unfortunately not all of us hardcore fans have money trees growing in our backyard. So while $140 might not be much for some, for others it is too much.
Cheers....

Why are people complaining about $140 through the website, when srp ib this is $200 and then think of what you are going to pay for shipping on 10 pounds of shipment.....
Lets not forget to mention some of the preorders have a chance of being signed by the band......
First, i'm really sorry to lower all the excitement provided by these beautiful news, but...
for the first time i'm getting angry at the band.
I've bought, like you all, many many stuff on this site and spent a lot of money. The Ten special edition seems awesome and i will probably buy it, but come on, 140 bucks!!! It's a hell lot of cash and i'm in Europe so it is a 50$ more, it is awfully expensive.
If i remember well, we had heard som "big bold and free" announcement a while a go, and i think it is the moment for Pearl Jam to show their fans they do not consider them as "vaches à laits" (french for milked cows!).
I know the band gives a lot of money for good causes but all this merchandising feels like the band is gettting away from its ethics toward its fans: for example:
Don't you think the battle against ticketmaster feels odd now when you see the ticket prices sold on this site,
Don't you think the Body of War movie should have been a free download instead of a paying DVD,
Don't you think a free download of the MTV Unplugged could have lowered the price of the Ten new edition?
Don't you think socks, onesies and all that stuff is really crapppppy for a band whose singer used to praise Fugazi, a band who never sold any Merchandising???
So, yeah i have the choice to buy or not, but i don't think it is the point, i think that if the band still have its ethics (i am sure they do), they should give us some love. After all, even Metallica finally gave a lot of live music for free.
Peal Jam, we love you, give us some love!
Ticketmaster - they lost. They have to use them. And their tickets may be pricey now but have you seen what other bands charge?
Body of War - Free? Why? It cost money to make that movie and the proceeds go to Thomas Young.
Unplugged - Free? Why? They don't release albums or boots for free.
Merch - They always have sold it so why stop now? Fans like it.
seems like a lot of people just don't even comprehend the costs required to put a box set like this together. if we saw their profit margin, i'm sure a lot of you would just stfu.
I agree. I highly doubt the band is making a huge profit off this. And as far as ticket prices go this band's prices are alot lower than others for the most part and the shows are worth every penny. Prices for everything involed in putting on a show have gone up since the early 90's so tickets will to! Just the way it is. As I recall all the stuff in the deluxe set is things the fans have requested be made available. How many bands actually listen to what the fans want and then deliver. Not many.
I dunno about the profit margin thing...it really is just re-packaging, and the physical costs, which are dirt cheap. when you buy a new cd from any artist the reason it costs so much is that you are paying back for the expensive studio time, etc. to actually make the record. I don't see a lot of those fees for this thing. Brendan was paid to re-mix, maybe some artwork (seems like from Jeff ).... but nothing huge. Yes, a lot a detail went into this thing, but I'm sure they are going to be making a nice penny off this. Same with the Ames book. Same with the ticket prices. In my opinion all these things can be cheaper. It's a suppy and demand thing.
Having said all that I like your quote about them listening to fans. They really do love their fans. But it's big business, too.
This thread made me go to GOODS and check about the re-release again.
Reasons why this thread should be closed:
1. Pre-orders of said Deluxe Edition get randomly selected to be signed by the band. That is more than worth $140. Plus all the cool stuff coming with it anyway?
2. Go to Goods-> T-Shirts(Page 2)->Green Disease. The product description says "WE'VE GOT THE DISEASE TOO. OTHERWISE, WE'D GIVE 'EM AWAY."
Your argument is moot, dude. Maybe you should read before you post. LOLZ
I respect anyone who doesn't subscribe to the "pj can do no wrong" philosophy. Pj has a right to make money and get fair market value. but don't be upset when they lose rock credibility. The beatles anthology costs less.
The music for free argument is bullshit since Pearl Jam allows the recording and distribution of every single live show they have ever played, you just have to know how to get it, or put the effort into getting it. How much money has Pearl Jam not made on that? They could have easily had a no recording policy and released recordings themselves. You also can easily get the full performance of MTV Unplugged online for free, you are paying for the casing, and the privilege of not having those stupid numbers in the middle of the screen.
Pearl Jam does a lot for its fans in the area of allowing things to go on that other bands don't like record and photograph their shows.
While $140 may be a lot, you don't have to buy it, there are 3 other editions of the rerelease you can get. I personally think that Ten needed to be remixed and remastered and have been hoping for this album for awhile. It also will maybe spark some interest for them in playing some really rare stuff like Brother, Goat or Just A Girl.
Pearl Jam's average age is somewhere around 40 so now they have kids, which allows them to release things like onesies, because they assume that people have grown up the same as them. There are a lot worse bands when it comes to merchandising and putting their logo or whatever on anything.

Have you ever heard Goat? I hope THEY NEVER play that!!!
