Really? What about the hard working Tenclub who has to put those packages together?? They deserve some cash, don't cha think?? The labor and printing and materials??? I think we got off dirt cheap baby! We're not in Kansas any more!

PEARL JAM in 2024! Dark Matter and MORE ! THANK YOU!! Peace Love & Pearl Jam forever!!
I am definitely going to buy the Super Deluxe Edition (I don't even listen to Ten anymore, I think I have been over it since about the year 2000, but everything in there still sounds great).
For $140 I do have one complaint. The Drop in Park show should have been on CD. In fact, if they'd have taken out all the vinyl, make it 4 CDs, one DVD, and the little cassette copy thing, and charge $50 less, and I'd have jumped on it the first day on sale. Yeah, I love the band. Yeah, Super Deluxe sounds awesome with all the little extras, etc. But I'm not interested in a double vinyl bootleg from a concert 16 years ago. "Super Deluxe" does not have to mean "3 audio formats."
I'm sure the set will be amazing when it's in all of our hands, but they could have cut it down a teensy bit production wise and charged a teensy bit less.
Hey, Original Poster, don't forget the Verizon deal this past summer tour with the corporation t-shirts and big text screens and all that stuff! That's the first time *I* was angry at the marketing/commercialism thing.

New Mexico Pearl Jam Fans (New Mexico, USA) on Facebook!
First, i'm really sorry to lower all the excitement provided by these beautiful news, but...
for the first time i'm getting angry at the band.
I've bought, like you all, many many stuff on this site and spent a lot of money. The Ten special edition seems awesome and i will probably buy it, but come on, 140 bucks!!! It's a hell lot of cash and i'm in Europe so it is a 50$ more, it is awfully expensive.
If i remember well, we had heard som "big bold and free" announcement a while a go, and i think it is the moment for Pearl Jam to show their fans they do not consider them as "vaches à laits" (french for milked cows!).
I know the band gives a lot of money for good causes but all this merchandising feels like the band is gettting away from its ethics toward its fans: for example:
Don't you think the battle against ticketmaster feels odd now when you see the ticket prices sold on this site,
Don't you think the Body of War movie should have been a free download instead of a paying DVD,
Don't you think a free download of the MTV Unplugged could have lowered the price of the Ten new edition?
Don't you think socks, onesies and all that stuff is really crapppppy for a band whose singer used to praise Fugazi, a band who never sold any Merchandising???
So, yeah i have the choice to buy or not, but i don't think it is the point, i think that if the band still have its ethics (i am sure they do), they should give us some love. After all, even Metallica finally gave a lot of live music for free.
Peal Jam, we love you, give us some love!
dude, don't worry about what some of these clowns say . . . its "our" band and if we want to criticize them, then go ahead, feel free, again its our band! . . . and by the way, its just the evolution of the industry and its the evolution of this band which has made them into, dare i say, a corporate machine, which depending on your point of view, is either good or bad. Whatever, I love their music and i can deal with a bit of commercialism . . .

I agree that its pricey for the box set, but there will always be certain "luxury" items out there that make us really think whether or not we really need them.
I can see how people would start to question the band's credibility, etc., but in this day and age, bands aren't making much money on new releases, so they need to suck on other teets to make up for the lost income. Not that anyone here is privy to the structure of the Avocado record, but it is very possible that the band had to pay ALL of the recording costs, including an advance to a producer, hence, who knows how much they made or lost on that album. Outlooks change dramatically when you are the one opening your wallet with little assurance that you will ever get the money back.
I have a certain code of conduct I like to follow, but since 1981, I am sure I have deviated from said code. Of course I don't have millions of fans who are effected by those changes, but PJ does, and compared to other bands, they have pretty much stuck to their ideals.
i probably will not be purchasing this Deluxe set, ive always despised bands for re-releasing albums on an anniversary or whatnot with "special" additions added to them, it seems really hokie and money driven...if people buy into it, great its a good collectors item i guess for you, the only thing i would want is the Unplugged show but im not paying 140.00 bucks for that....also dont bash someone because they question the motives of all the commercialism the band has been into lately
i mean come on seriously do they need to be selling a box for bootlegs??????
Remember, being in Pearl Jam is a job. It's probably the coolest job in the world, but it's still a job. Go ahead and get your money, boys! You deserve it!
The fact that this is even available is the thank you to the fans.

We were just discussing this with my husband yesterday.
So many people bitchin' about $140 because its to much money.... but they are prefectly fine with dropping $160+ for 2 tickets to a show, I don't see much difference in between the two.
I've seen other box sets for other bands and they all border $100 and they don't come with as much stuff as this box set does, I can't believe people are bitchin' about this so much :S
no vinyl? (does anyone know how to make smileys on this board) I feel my posts look naked :S
I think that's the best part of the deal, but then again I love vinyl, I have vinyl for many bands not just Pearl Jam.
I'm just glad that I'm getting a box set from Pearl Jam that isn't a bootleg (that I paid $120 for back in the mid 90's). Think about it... and then tell me it's over priced.
A reward for fans? Since when does a band need to reward their fans for liking their music. I think their reward to us IS their music. Its a box set not a pacemaker or a prosthetic arm....it is something that people can buy if it is within their means..not something that is vital. I just bought a $25 Christmas tree today because I wanted something nice to put Christmas presents under...if I didn't have the $25, I wouldn't have bought the f'n tree. I also bought the box set..because I had the money and wanted to look at it and listen to it. I think that there needs to be a separate forum for complaining about the cost of merchandise, tickets, posters, travel expenses to the shows, membership fees and anything else that costs money. It is very confusing to me to think that people expect something free simply because they are fans. Maybe Brad Pitt should put a link on his website to a free download of his next film because he is rich and people have spent money to see his films in the past. Just my 2 cents.
If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this
I think just by offering us the opportunity to purchase something like this is showing us love; and like it has been said . . you do have different packages to pick from. I don't know many bands that consistently show the support of their fans the way PJ does; I saw Foo Fighters in Nashville earlier this year and it took nearly the rest of the year to find a decent bootleg of the show, and it wasn't the best quality. The PJ show in Columbus, only had to wait a few weeks, pay $9 and the quality was perfect. Anyone has the right to voice frustration, just like anyone has the right to pay the $140. Just imagine what this set will cost on Ebay once 10C sells out.

I agree with Corey Lynn. How on earth is a re-release box set a "thank you" to the fans? If someone said to you "We can take this thing you made 18 years ago, copy it, and throw it in a box with a couple other items and sell it for $140", would you do it for any other reason than to make some fucking scratch? It's a cool collectable for sure, but its not a "thank you" unless that's thank you in "Thanks for giving us all your money".

This band does not owe you shit? Maybe not him specifically but certainly the fan community as a whole. Otherwise, I have a feeling that it may have been hard for each band member to afford what they can afford right now. Because you see, the service they are providing is entertainment. Yes, it means the whole world to people like you and I . However, it's not like they are literaly saving lives every day.
I'm not saying they should offer the "super duper" version for free. But at the end, yes...they do owe us
I have no patience for bad music and stupid people...
The whole world will be different soon the whole world will be RELIEVED
The Ten Club has been selling socks for a long, long, long time. Possibly back into the early 1990's. I've never bought any, but I hear they are good quality.
I was actually gonna buy a pair for a friend for xmas present but then I found this really cool Sacto show shirt and bought that instead. He'll freak out when he gets the package

I don't agree with everything he says, but I do agree with one of the main points in there.. That PJ is starting to slip away from some of the original punk ideals such as keeping it cheap for the fans. Remember when their ticket prices were affordable?????????? I understand times have changed. And I understand that any sucessful band is a business. But realistically they could get the concert ticket prices down..especially when they team up with a sponsor such as Verizon! Also, I might have bough the 10 box set if it was half the price.
seems like a lot of people just don't even comprehend the costs required to put a box set like this together. if we saw their profit margin, i'm sure a lot of you would just stfu.
I agree. I highly doubt the band is making a huge profit off this. And as far as ticket prices go this band's prices are alot lower than others for the most part and the shows are worth every penny. Prices for everything involed in putting on a show have gone up since the early 90's so tickets will to! Just the way it is. As I recall all the stuff in the deluxe set is things the fans have requested be made available. How many bands actually listen to what the fans want and then deliver. Not many.
I think he's right. Regaurdless of the fact that times have changed, the band's morals should stay them same. I will never give up my love for Pearl Jam, but it does seem extremely hypocritcal that they are doing this, Come on, I mean they are going to reissue every album? Are all of these reissues going to cost 140 bucks? Probably. Its seems that Pearl Jam is trying to sqeeze very last dollar from their hardcore fan with all of this merchandising since only the hardcore fan would spend that much money on a collectible. Not only that but pearljam.com does not even offer any kind of discount to ten club members or for people who purchase a lot of merchandise. I could talk about this until I am blue in the face, but the fact is that no matter what I'm always going to be a huge Pearl Jam fan, I just wish they wouldn't be so hypocritcal.
Well they aren't getting any younger - they are probably saving for their retirement. I don't think bands have retirement packages like most companies...that is if you don't get laid off. I for one won't be spending the money on any remastered CDs. I work for myself and my money has already been spoken for. Sorry PJ, I can't help with your retirement package .
Some questions are unanswerable, some answers are questionable.j
I think everybody's first reaction to the price was a "what the f?" reaction. But if you just want cds and dvds they'll be out there for less. I just think they could've added the drop in the park as a separate bootleg cd and it would've been a massive seller.
Here's my breakdown of the box set though. I don't think it's "overpriced" it might just be "too much" for everyone. But the CD/DVD set would be fine for most I think.
Disc 1: original Ten tracklisting digitally remastered (original mix)
· Disc 2: original Ten tracklisting digitally remastered and remixed by Brendan O’Brien, plus six bonus tracks: “Brother,” “Just a Girl,” “State of Love and Trust,” “Breath and a Scream,” “2,000 Mile Blues” and “Evil Little Goat”
<b>--OK I'm guessing the 2 disc set will cost $25 at Best Buy just like recent Pavement et al remasters 2 cd sets have cost</b>
· DVD of Pearl Jam’s previously unreleased 1992 MTV Unplugged performance including never before seen bonus performance of “Oceans” with 5.1 surround sound audio remix
<b>--I'd guess they'd get $15 for a one off dvd of this. </b>
· LP 1: original Ten tracklisting remastered for vinyl
· LP 2: original Ten tracklisting remastered for vinyl and remixed by Brendan O’Brien
<b>-- Double LP, again $20-$25</b>
· LP 3 & 4: Drop in the Park – Live at Magnuson Park in Seattle on September 20, 1992 (audio mixed by Brendan O’Brien)
<b>-- About $30-$40 is the going rate for a limited double vinyl. </b>
· Cassette: replica of original “Momma-Son” Pearl Jam demo cassette featuring “Alive,” “Once” and “Footsteps”
<b>-- This is where it gets into the kind of lame "collector" type stuff that I really don't care for. But cost? Probably $5-10. </b>
· Package also includes an Eddie Vedder-style composition notebook filled with replica personal notes, images and mementos from the collections of Eddie Vedder and Jeff Ament, a vellum envelope with replicated era-specific ephemera from Pearl Jam’s early work and a two-sided print commemorating the Drop in the Park concert.
<b>-- Book and prints prob would cost $30-$40.</b>
So total
<b>$125-$160 </b>
But I wouldn't cry for the band not making money or saving for retirement. I hope that was a joke?
Overall I think they've always managed to charge less for shirts and posters than almost any other major band out there. Hell rage against the machine charged much dinero for tshirts back in the day. At least Pearl Jam takes time to offer really interesting artwork and change shirts mid tour often as well.
Who else has a bootleg program like this either? Although I'm waiting for the Europe 2007 boots. What's up with that?! One time I fly to europe to see pearl jam and no boots?!

I read an interview where Eddie said that he thought that Ten was sounded "overproduced". I am hoping that this new mix will sound more like he intended it to sound.
As far as the comments that criticize the sale of merchandise from them...do you guys realize how many sites out there are dedicated to Beatles and Dead merchandise alone? I do not see anything wrong with a band re-releasing their best selling album. I have read sooo many posts on here begging PJ to re-release the vinyl and to release unplugged...I do not think that they will have any problem selling this box set. I am sorry that it is not within some peoples means to buy it...this economy is F'd right now and it is hard for many people out there...but, to criticize a band for releasing merchandise is ridiculous.
If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this
I actually think the bootleg box is cool. I have accumulated a nice amount of boots over the years, and I am going to order a couple of boxes for storage. Obviously the box may appear to be overkill for some, but there is a simple solution for that. You don't like the product- don't fuckin' buy it

Exactly!
What you get included in the Ten Re-Issue Super DeLuxe Edition, for just 140 bucks, isn't bad at all. Let alone "Pre-Orders randomly to be selected to be signed by PJ members!!!" mama mia! Free US shipping (so if you're in the US bitching about the cost without paying for taxes/shipping cost, say in stores or even on Amazon.com when it does come out) is fucked up!
There are hundreds of bands out there that are selling kick ass box set's of their collection, higher then this. Yes, there will be fans bitching about the cost, the amount of stuff, yada yada! But come on. If you're a fan of the band, the music, what they have given to the fans over the years, the community, charities etc.. as the first album that started this band, why would you complain? It's just 140 bucks! There are other releases on this set. Legacy Edition (2-disc set in mini-LP style slipcase); Deluxe Edition (2-disc set plus DVD specially designed hardbound package); Vinyl Collection (2-LP set); Super Deluxe Edition (2-disc set plus DVD, 4 LPs and replica cassette). Whatever you like, pick! If you don't like it, don't buy it. Ask Santa for a Christmas gift for '09, or ask for it on your birthday or anniversary present. Better yet, instead of buying booze & partying all night long during the weekend (or weekday), save some flow on the side for it.
This isn't a rip off - it's a record collector's dream come true! Perhaps some of the younger folks don't understand that- holy crap - all that cool stuff to look at while listening to many versions of the record!
I WISHED that other bands I was into when I was younger had special editions like this (the Who did a little bit with live at Leeds and Odds and Sods)...special editions were the BEST! I still have multiple copies of some records because the production was different or there were gaps between the tracks when there shouldn't have been. Coloured vinyl, misprints, bits of memorabilia...
So, while this is a little pricy to us (over $200 for Candians right now) to true collectors of all things musical and different, I'd call that a bargain....
Thank you Pearl Jam (Jeff & Ed) for being the music collectors and vinyl fans that you are and understanding what a package like this means to your fellor collectors!
I mean, honestly, if the release of this reissue makes you upset, angry or depressed - go the fuck outside, take a deep breath of air and go listen to another band more in line with your expectations.
Personally, I think it's one of the most brilliant things they've ever done and will be remembered for a LONG time to come.

Rant over!
This pretty much ends the debate, folks.
I mean, honestly, if the release of this reissue makes you upset, angry or depressed - go the fuck outside, take a deep breath of air and go listen to another band more in line with your expectations.
Personally, I think it's one of the most brilliant things they've ever done and will be remembered for a LONG time to come.
Ohh and thank you for releasing Unplugged on dvd after all these years and many many fan requests to do so.
So the super deluxe version has all the extras from 1 to 4 in it..?
