The future of the Canadian Grand Prix could be decided on Friday, when the Montreal government are set to announce whether they will provide vital funding for the race.

Earlier this month it was announced that the event had been dropped from the calendar, with F1 commercial rights controller Bernie Ecclestone claiming that organisers owed him money for previous races.

Government officials nevertheless met with Ecclestone last week in the hope of finding a solution that would see the race, held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, reinstated.

However, in order for that to happen both funding and a new race promoter will be needed.

According to The Montreal Journal, Canadian fans can expect to find out some time on Friday whether or not funding will be granted by the Montreal government.

    THERE IS STILL HOPE
(this is opinion based, not fact based: ) most likely back in 2010, but it'd be nice in 2009.
Force India boss might be going with McLaren engine/drivetrain next year instead of Ferrari because Ferrari might not be able to provide all of the engine, transmission and drivetrain like he wants.

    Go Felipe!

LONDON (AFP) - Lewis Hamilton's bid to become Formula One champion has been soured by a Spanish website targeting the McLaren driver with vitriol and racist abuse.

The website, called Pincha la Rueda de Hamilton (Burst Hamilton's Tyre) invites visitors to place a virtual nail on the track at Interlagos, the setting for Sunday's title showdown with Felipe Massa in the Brazil Grand Prix.

The site carries a message board directing abuse at the 23-year-old Briton, who only needs to finish in the top five to claim the 2008 title

I read about this in the paper this morning

After what happened in Barcelona as well ... I think (hope) he's strong enough to use this in a positive way to fire his own ambition.

Spain seems to have a lot of problems with this ... English football players were targeted a few years ago as well http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4024167.stm
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

Sunday is the last race of the season, I hope Hamilton wins the championship I really don't like Massa at all. This is also David Coulthard's last race.

    Massa is pretty soft-spoken.
David Coulthard's last season, yep. I wonder who we'll get to run into people and blame them for the accident now...Oh, nevermind! I forgot about Hamhead ;)

I don't think Hambone is gonna make any mistakes this year. Even still, hopefully Massa wins his hometown race.
