OMG, yes, you beat me to it, I was thinking the exact same thing.

And Commerce Banks are everywhere too.

it's funny there are Starbucks everywhere but when I was looking for one the other day on the UES, I couldn't fine one! But when you don't want coffee they are everywhere.

Did you have a good time, Cate? What did you see?

You can get 1 package with two aspirins in a bodega too :) (that's like a local corner store type thing)

i know what a bodega is. all those cop shows taught me that. :D besides 2 aspirins isn't ever enough. i have a hard hard head and i require a nice dose of codeine to get the job done.

i didnt see all i wanted to, but that is to be expected. NY's scope is huge. lots to see not enough time. but now i know what i dont have to see next time. but i was with good company and thats all that mattered to me. :)

Being born and raised out in Cali I knew the instant that I visited NYC for the first time that I had to live here! It has a feeling like no other. I love to go back and visit California, but NYC is now (and most likely forever) my adoptive home.

Where in Cali are you from??

Oh AND... GO HERE. We randomly went there for lunch and I fell in love with it. PLUS, that's where I discovered Brooklyn Lager...YUMO!

I"ll have to try that restaurant sometime.

As to Cali, I was born in Sunnyvale (near San Jose) and then around the third grade moved to Folsom (yes near the prison). Were you born and raised in Sunny San Diego?!?

Yup, born and raised here. Lived here my whole life. Ready for a change, actually...somewhere with WEATHER (something other than "fire season")!!! And, I totally know Sunnyvale...that's where we stayed (Wild Palms) for Bridge School....a bunch of great irish pubs there!

P.S. That restaurant (nolita house) delivers!!

I lived in San Francisco for a while, which is my 2nd favorite city. I met transplanted New Yorkers out there too. I love that city
    but I always missed home

people seemed to be so chill and laid back and nobody was in a hurry to go anywhere and I was like "ah! Hurry up!!" ;)

and I always missed the 4 seasons.

I just got back from a whirlwind trip to New York City and I'm sad to be home. I've always thought New York wouldn't be the kind of place I would enjoy, assuming it would be too busy, too expensive and too "unsafe," but I was totally wrong.

I loved everything about it. It's definitely a city that's easy to fall in love with. We did all the typical touristy things, but tried to pack in as many "real" New York experiences as we could. Unfortunately, we ran into the typical travelling problem - "So much to do, so little time."

Anybody else pleasantly surprised by their visit to New York City and longing to go back like me?

I'm already planning another trip there in the summer 'cause everytime I spoke to a local, I kept hearing the same thing: "if you love it here at this time of year, come back in the summer. It's a totally different city."

Any not-so-typical suggestions on things to do/see?

This is how I feel about Los Angeles..I could so move there in a second if I could! I was there for one week in 2004 and about another week in 2007 and I love that awesome place. It has too many fun things and dont get me started on that beautiful ocean!! :)

Oh, Im sure NYC is cool too!! :p

"cool" doesn't BEGIN to describe it. It's almost like it's own entity...like a living breathing being. (Is that too existential??)

Not too existential at all...It's the best way to describe it....It totally is it's own entity.

About the Duane Reade's, I totally noticed that. The first night when we were walking around, I kept seeing the signs, but I thought it was a construction company. Literally, everywhere you turn, there is scaffolding on a building being restored and there was always a Duane Reade sign peeking out somewhere. It wasn't obvious that it was a pharmacy until the next day in the daylight.

OMG! HILARIOUS!!! I thought the SAME EXACT thing!!! It wasn't until I went in one that I finally "got it".

  • by the way in lower manhattan near city hall, there is a duane street and next to it is a reade street. that's where the name of the drugstore is derived from.
