Love for New York City

Oh yes I do love it. I live in upstate, and I usually get to the city maybe 2x per year at least. The coolest thing for me is being close enough that I can get in my car and only drive 7 hours to be in the best city in the world, any time I want instead of flying or something. I usually don't drive right into the city though. I'll park in NJ and take the PATH train in.

Usually when I go its to see a show or a musical, though there's been a couple business meetings that I went to also. I just like to walk around. There is something intoxicating about being there. Since I live in a small town, even the opportunity to go to good stores is inviting.

We will be going there to see The Cure in June, and for my daughter to see My Chemical Romance in May.

Ummmm...pickles. Check South Street Seaport for them, as well. Barrelled, briney, garlicky....drool. Spring and summer offer up the city in a whole new light so don't stay away from Times Square during that time. The Naked Cowboy will be there in all his glory and the weather's more condusive to covering every inch of it by foot.
does the naked cowboy travel around the country when it's cold in nyc?! 'cause i swear i saw him playing on the corner in downtown tampa one day...whitey tighties and all :)

i've always been intimidated by nyc, but i think i'm finally going to conquer my fear and visit the city later this year. i'm very excited!!

Nice. I'll remember that for sure next time I'm there.

Are we talking a real Naked Cowboy or is this some kind of statue that's rolled into town for the season? haha. Funny either way really.
He's quite real and has lovely glutes ;).

Google him because he's even got a website, he's such an institution. Or belongs in one.

I was too. I'm a really claustrophobic person so the thought of being there always freaked me out, but the vibe of the city totally makes all of those fears float away. You literally get swept up in it all.

I'm literally terrified of elevators, given how "stuck" you are once inside, but I even made it up the Empire State Building. It wasn't an easy-breathing type of elevator ride, but I did it. And it was totally worth it.

i think he simply stays home! there was a big write-up about him a few years ago, and he makes some serious $$$! no need to work year round if you're willing to strip down to your skivvies and play guitar all day in NYC.

and...no reason to be *intimidated* by NYC. contrary to popular belief, NYers are NICE! really nice! sure, we may not look it, and we are always rushing around...but really, most NYers will help anyone out, give ya the shirt off their back. also will tell you to go fuck off in a heartbeat if you are an ass...and thus just why i love my fellow NYers so. :D

so come on up for a visit! :) let us know...we can all drink together!

I'm sure it was him as his delicate body parts wouldn't fare so well exposed to the current East Coast weather.

i'll definitely let all you nycers know when i'll be up for a visit. i'd love to booze it up a bit :D

my friends and i are hoping to all go on a vaca together...there always seems to be someone that's left out. so, cheesy as it sounds, we're hoping to have our own "sex and the city" moment...though i do not live up to my name-sake in the show.

i grew up in a small town (4 stop lights), so i've been slowly working my way up in the sizes of cities i live in/visit. orlando was a culture shock for me...and i fell in love w/ chicago last summer...so nyc should be no problem!!

I really need to see NYC. I actually have it as a place I'd like to live (if just for a while) on my 43 things, yet I've never been there.

I've become infatuated through songs, first hand accounts, movies, Flickr, etc.

If I get my way, I will be visiting NYC this fucking year! :D
Walking can be a real trip

Anyone that hasnt ever seen Green Wood Cemetary has got to make it over there.
    This is a National Landmark.
    http://www.green-wood.com/
It is the 2nd largest Cemetary In The World ( # 1 being somewhere in France )

What might seem, morbid is actually a beautiful peaceful place.

    There are regular tours,

or you can walk for hours thru the paths and rolling hills

whats unbelievable is it is right smack in the middle of Brooklyn NY , USA .

It is truly like a fairytale .

I'm so sad to hear this. It was big on my "To Do" list, but had to be taken off, due to lack of time. I love cemeteries.....I know that sounds strange, but I'm glad you feel the same about them. There's definitely something beautiful to each and every cemetery. It's gonna be at the top of my list now for sure when I go back in the summer/fall.

black plastic bags of trash sitting on the sidewalk covered in freshly fallen snow. aww how perfectly pretty. :p:D

tis quite something to have to actually think while walking down the sidewalk after snowfall. we dont get that here in sydney. oh and can i just mention me getting almost run over by NY's finest on my way to see henry rollins at the warsaw on wednesday. through habit i looked right instead of left and just i stepped off the kerb. wasnt the first time i did that either, but it was the closest it came to being the last.

coming from the 'city' of adelaide the NYC and surrounding areas is so intense to me. But I love this. When we went last year we had a great time and enjoyed everything about the city.. I'm longing to go back. It's the centre of the universe for sure.

Well said! And, I think that's why I like it...there's just nothing like it. It's so high-energy. I stayed in Times Square and was up early (7am) and couldn't believe how fast people walk...even at that hour!! :) I'm used to the laid-back attitude in San Diego...I actually liked the change of pace (pun intended).

  • I noticed that there was Starbuck's everywhere, but given that I'm from the Tim Horton's capital of the world, it seemed completely normal. In fact, I'd say that we have way more Tim Horton's per capita than they do Starbuck's.

In case anybody's wondering, I'm still not over my desperate need to go back. I miss it so much.

And the funny part for me was I went to Mountainview for Download last year and my feeling was damn, these dudes are mellow over here.

I've been in the city leaving my hotel before light (like 6:30am) and yes bunches of people well on their way to work, and there's also people finishing up their night. I walked past one club with music still blaring somewhere in Manhattan and clearly people were just leaving because one person was all in silver lame.
