As for Sicko, I haven't seen it.

I haven't avoided seeing it because I'm anti-Moore. I just haven't gotten aroudn to it due to lack of interest, I guess.
Does anyone have anything to say about this movie?
I'd be interested to hear what people's opinions are on the fucked-up health care system in the U.S without simply reading about how fat Michael Moore is and about how we can't trust anything he says because that's what the t.v told us to think - seems to me like Americans have a big problem with Michael Moore, whereas the rest of the world thinks he's pretty cool. I wonder why this is? Maybe its for the same reason that Bill Hicks is still virtually unheard of in the U.S.
Anyway..Sicko. I thought it was a superb documentary, which raised many serious questions about the Health care system - or lack of it - in the U.S, and presented some things about the health insurance industry, and the drugs industry over there, which were real eye-openers.
I enjoyed it. I just hate the different networks of health care in this country. I have Kaiser for health insurance, therefore if I want to go to a doctor, I need to go to a Kaiser doctor. Personally I wish I could just go wherever the fuck I want to.
Hopefully this will happen. I think it was more like this when I was younger.
Our doctors are very well educated . . . and a lot of your doctors in the US have been educated and trained in Canada - they head down there for the money!
I haven't seen Sicko yet, just haven't been motivated to yet. However, I am thankful that I live in a country with socialised health. Having said that, I don't believe that countries with socialised healthcare can be classified as nirvana. We have waiting lists, we still have to pay for perscriptions (although they are subsidised), and not all medications are covered (i.e. experimental drugs). Regardless, the alternative seems unteneable. It is comforting to know that if I am completely broke, that I would still have access to medical treatment.

I just watched it today. I wasn't motivated to watch it before either. The idea of watching a documentary about sick people and the Health Industry didn't really grab me. But it's really good. I highly recommend it.
i thought it was very well done too, byrnzie. some of the cases presented in the movie were simply disgusting. how does one who works in the medical field sleep at night when you present "patients" with options like one finger for x$ or both for XX$? doesn't that fundamentally undermine everything that someone in health care is supposed to believe in and adhere to? i don't understand how they can live with themselves working in a system like that. i don't understand how the american people put up with it. there would be a revolution here if they tried to take away our health care.
just this summer a friend of mine in the states had a friend who was shot and taken to hospital. due to the fact that he couldn't afford insurance and had none, he stayed in the hospital just long enough to have his wounds taken care of and left against doctor's advice. he had to go back to work immediately to start paying off the 13,000$ that he owed for so-called health professionals to "help" him in time of need. he was just there for a day and not only did he have to endure the pain and shock of getting shot, he also gets a bill for it!!! there's something very wrong about that. it's 2008, not the dark ages. we have the technology and wherewithal to help people, but we won't do it unless you have enough money to pay us. it's insanity.
what was also insane was the treatment of the world trade center volunteers. they try to do more than their part to help others in time of need, yet when their time of need comes, they are treated like pariahs because of money. fucking money. useless paper. that's what stops these people from getting the help they need and desrve, and it's absolutely fucking disgusting. it's sickening.
i get the impression that many americans have been drilled with fear over words like socialism. perhaps that's why so few choose to rise up against a system that is extremely flawed and, in my opinion, goes against everything that should be human. maybe this is why there seems to be so much hatred of moore. he forces the country to take a look at itself, the ugly self, and asks, "why do we allow these things to happen in our wonderful country?". the image reflected in the mirror is easier to shy away from than it is to look at.
Is this what people call being realistic in life?
It's somewhat demented when you sit back and think about it.
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

couldn't agree more, roland.
But then you're going to have the people that say. "We'll I spent 9 years in school to be a doctor. I couldn't party and get laid in college so I'm gonna make as much as I can. It's America, I deserve as much as I can get!"
sadly, you're right. there are people like that, south of seattle. :( it's too bad that people sometimes have the wrong motivations for getting invloved in certain fields. the reward should be in knowing that one has gained knowledge that can be used to save others' lives and ease suffering.
But the doctor Moore interviewed in England earns £85,000 a year. That's a lot of money. I wouldn't say it's the doctors fault. It's the health industry that's at the root of it.
I had my doubts beforehand too. I finally saw it today.
It's very good. You really should watch it.

Prepare for tending to your garden, America.
Yeah, while I'll admit that the US healthcare is fucked up... Moore's films are notorious for only shedding light on one side of the problem, and not being completely balanced.
she lets go
it's such a racket with insurance companies. i've had several fights with health insurance. it disgusts me that when you're at your lowest physically, that's when they try to take advantage of you.
I too have had to fight with a health insurance company.. that was one of the most annoying things I've ever done!!
I saw this on the internet a few weeks ago and it made me laugh out loud.:D
Spider Payment.. click enlarge at the top right hand corner to read it better.
i don't care how many years pass....fuck you health net lol
LMAO @ the link....that is awesome! i love how he asks for the picture back and then questions if it's the same spider
BEST Laugh I've had in ages

I agree;)
Yeah battling with insurance companies is fucking brutal! They never want to pay, and will try to sidestep out of it every time:mad:.. until they realize that you won't stop hassling them about it. I'm sorry to hear about your gallbladder though.. hope you're feeling better!:)
I know right? I laughed so hard when I first read that!!
