I've used AVG (anti virus) and ZoneAlarm (firewall) for quite a while now and never had a problem.
Norton seems to be a big problem to a lot of people. I work at an ISP and when Norton updates their software the helpdesk gets more calls because it fucks up computers.
In your router is a firewall, which protects the computers from intruders. virusses, adware and spyware you get from installing or opening the wrong files.
To the main discussion: there is no "best" if your system works hooray, if not get different software. So far I've had no problems with free protection software. Before that MacAfee never gave me 1 problem.
BTW does AVIRA also add text to E-mails? It kinda bothers me AVG does:
No virus found in this incoming message.
Checked by AVG.
You can turn off the messages in AVG for incoming and outgoing emails.
And you are right, there is no "best".
If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?
I use both OS X and Windows on a regular basis (have one of each on my desk at work and a Windows machine at home) and it really is about a draw.
OS X has its own share of problems and user un-friendliness.
Well I know this. Uninstalling programs can be quite bothersome because files are in one folder and another. Actually that's the only thing that comes to mind right now.
I do most of my command via the Terminal so Im pretty comfortable with the Unix base OS
I just don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die.
Avira does not add text to teh end of emails. I am still trying to figure out all its features(learning feature for anti-spam in e-amil), but I have liked it so far.

I've had the following on my p.c for the past 4 years and have had no problems since I downloaded them...
Av Personal edition - free
Registry Mechanic - cracked
Adaware - Free
Spyware Blaster - free
Crap cleaner - free
I did have Sygate firewall, which is free, but it's not compatible with Windows Vista, and so I now get pop-up's whereas before I didn't. Windows Firewall is shit.

You should check out reviews on

or another review site. I wouldn't go on the opinion on someone who doesn't know anything at all about it

only 1 usb port
No optical drive
No firewire
a small SSD (solid state drive) think flash drive
Not upgradeable at all. If you need to replace the battery for whatever reason, you're SOL
Want more memory? Too bad.
Relitively slow CPU Core 2 Duo at 1.8 Ghz isn't blazing fast
Installing software from a CD? you can't unless you have remote access to another Mac or PC and even then that's buggy.
For some people on the go it's good though. For people looking for an all round laptop I'd go with a MacBook or MacBook Pro
How is that a POS? The battery is replaceable, but not hot-swappable!

Well thats what I meant.
That's why I said, in my opinion. I like a laptop that I can upgrade and have more ports on it.
It's great for ppl who are on the go and don't install too many apps from a CD.
Keeping with the topic that started it all:
Norton is a big memory and CPU hog. I do like McAfee it's less prone to system lock ups. This of course all running on Vista.
