Donating blood in about an hour

  • I'd love to give blood, I admire anyone who does and it's something i've always wanted to do, however, last time I went for a blood test I hyper-ventilated, had to be pinned down, retched and passed out. That was about 8 years ago.

I don't have a fear of blood, just needles. I turn into a nervous wreck.

I'd love to be able to give blood... but since I've turned 18 I've never gone more than 6 months without getting something pierced or tattoo'd.

I had that problem for a while... I say 'problem', it was more of an excuse. Now i'll just openly admit, I'm a wuss :o

i donate Plasma quite a bit. last time though as the blood was going back into my arm, the needle must have slipped out of the vein or something. they didnt really give me a reason as to why it started hurting like a bitch. lol.

anyway, my whole arm and i mean from wrist to near my shoulder turned black and blue and a pretty shade of purple the next day. lol.

still no biggie. ill do it again.
    Peace, Love.

  • I have horrible veins...HORRIBLE...they have to use the needles they use on kids (butterfly needle)...and even then they dig around. I have never, NEVER had blood drawn on the first poke. In fact, when I had my teeth pulled they had to put the IV IN MY FOOT. Yeah, much respect to those who donate!! :D
see... I can't even read this post... the mention of the word 'veins' makes my head go funny and my feet hurt :(

see, i'm ok with dentist's needles, it's the inside of my elbow I have a problem with... even hate touching it.
As I said earlier, my last experience, I passed out. Way I figure it, it must be a bad fear... I NEVER pass out :o

I never go hysterical and sob in public... it was quite embarrassing :o

Last time I was at the dentist I wouldn't open my mouth... I was 12. Eventually had to leave... even my father couldn't get me to open my mouth for the dentist :o it just wasn't happening and that was that.

Hey I hope you guys don’t mind if I keep a list of those who donate regularly. As I said before, there are particular times of year that the blood supply gets extremely low. We schedule our staff donor days to coincide with those time frames. I get credit for any donor I bring in – anywhere in the country, as long as it is a Red Cross sponsored blood drive.

I may try and contact you guys when our staff donor days come up. The next one I know begins March 3. Anyone who donates between March 3 – March 23 – I will get credit for, as long as I have your name, the donation site and the date. I will create a thread in the future to get your attention!!

I hope some of you are willing to help me out – it’s a performance rating thing. :D

hey i dont think people want to pay 50,000 for fake teeth or walk around gumming everything
  • honestly my teeth are just fine... cos of my fear of needles, I make sure I take care of my teeth and not depend on a dentist to do it... they're easy enough to look after yourself..

no one can clean their teeth the way a dentist can

its a simple fact ,, that being said some people have very strong teeth and can get away with it ,, but eventually they will rot

So last week I walked into my dorm and right at the entrance there was an American Red Cross blood drive table set up. Of course the moment I set foot inside they ask me if I want to donate blood... there was no escaping it. So I thought what the hell, I might as well. There have been other blood drives that I've ignored so I figured it's about time.

I scheduled it for today. And now I'm kinda nervous. I always get like that before vaccinations but I've never donated blood before, so it's a little nerve-racking.

I should put "Macho Man" by the Village People on a continuous loop to pump myself up. :D

    you'll be fine.

    if you live.......

Woohoo, I did it! It took a while with all the questions and everything, but it wasn't bad at all. The finger prick barely hurt at all, probably because of the guitar calluses on my fingers. The needle in the arm hurt a bit though because she really dug around in there to get in the vein. But it wasn't too bad. Then afterwards I signed up again for April. :D
