I'm tired of the fools at concerts lighting up next to me. I know this is going to piss people off, but I could care less - my mother in law is dying from terminal lung cancer (she smoked for 40 years) and i have no tolerance for it anymore. After seeing someone suffer in immense pain and then crawl to the bathroom to smoke when she was too weak to walk - I wanna rip every friggin cigarette into a milllion pieces!! Her poor health has ruined my marriage (my wife takes care of her) and destroyed our personal lives (work and then be a caregiver).

I want everyone who smokes to know that they need to get some freakin balls and willpower and quit. I know I am venting some anger here - but if you smoke you will die an early death I guarantee it!!!!!!!!! If you are so stupid to take your own health and others around you for granted - then stay the f*ck away from me. I want no part of your cancer - your stained teeth, your rotten mouth, your diseased cough, or your second hand smoke!

Big Tobacco is just as bad as the oil companies - Greedy pigs! Please don't smoke next to me - because if you do god help you!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah smoking is a pretty dumb habit when you think about it. I can't imagine anyone likes it the first time they try it, and you certainly don't form a habit after one cigarette. Therefore there has to be some motivation other than that. I smoked for a few years back in my teens, but it was pretty much because I used to hang out with my older sister and her friends and they all smoked. As soon as I got older I realised it was a total drain on my bank account and it was only going to lead to illness - and who wants to pay all that money to get ill?!

id its a non smoking venue, youd be right

but if its a smoking venue, than you need to move from the smoke, because you have no right to tell the others what to do.

If someone smokes around me, I typically:

    A. Bum a smoke
    B. Steal their lighter
    C. Offer them something a little greener to smoke
    D. All the above

California is moving towards becoming a non-smoking state. If you feel the need to smoke... please, step outside... into Nevada. Thank you.

dude, shut up. the person smoking is hurting themselves so much worse. just gut it out for the seven minutes it takes for him/her to smoke it and then walk away knowing you're healthier than they are. second-hand smoke is the most overrated thing in the world. it won't hurt you. don't listen to those gay "Truth" commercials. only first hand smoke will do anything in the long run. and I'm a non-smoker...but if I was ever standing near you at a show, I'd bum a Virginia Slim Menthol off of some chick and blow the smoke all over your American Eagle shirt so it smells like cigarette smoke when you get home and then your mom will have to wash it for ya

    No.

    Not in a smoking venue.

Besides man, we don't have this problem in the UK, you're just being pedantic :p

Lol! Not really being pedantic, I don't think you can really bang on about people's fundamental rights as human beings on the one hand then dismiss them in the other. I would rather the response be "well it's tough shit, that's just the way it is". I still went to pubs before the smoking ban, that was my choice. But as a human being, it is not fair for one person to inflict their behaviour on another person just because they choose to, and that person has to lump it.

I used to agree with you. I'm not overly concerned about passive smoking anymore though. I don't have the energy for it. Worrying about lung cancer and heart disease is more likely to cause it I reckon :D

But seriously, I understand your argument. It's a difficult situation. Fact is, you shouldn't go to a place that allows smoking if you don't want to be subjected to it.

Well yeah common sense says that, but given the fact that non-smokers way out number smokers, why cater to their anti-social behaviour?

j/k... but in all seriousness, is that few minutes that they are actually smoking really that bad for you? move away for a while and then go back or something. go grab a beer or use the restroom or look at merch. i dunno. i'd rather be around a million people smoking than one stupid crying baby. they need "baby" sections at restaurants instead of smoking ones. it's the damn noise pollution from little kids than i can't take. just don't allow smoking in restaurants--smokers can get through dinner without a cigarette. i know because i was one until 2 days ago;)

When i hear people tell me that every cigarette I smoke... shaves one minute off of my lifetime.... I think GOOD!
Those are the minutes at the END of my life... the decrepid, wrinkled, old Depends wearing Alzheimer's minutes of my life. I don't really want those minutes, anyway.

    :D yeah

And Bill Hicks taught me how to smoke and stay healthy. Since I'm a guy I just get packets with pregnancy warnings on them and stay away from the cancer ones. Don't want those... ;)

Well if I've queued for hours to get a decent spot then someone lights up, I'm not going to really want to move from the decent spot. And yeah, if you're not a smoker it isn't very pleasant, whether it is bad for me isn't the point really - it's someone's behaviour impacting on me. Fundamentally I don't think it would be any different from somebody thinking it's ok to rub their genitals against you at a show - not pleasant for the recipient! Funnily enough, that would cause you no physical harm at all, but for some reason we deem smoking which is harful to be totally acceptable.

i knew some of you would respond this way - that outlook is what is wrong with the world - its the lack of respect that you show others! your selfish antagonizing attitude is why Americans will always be seen as pompous assholes whereever they go. You are not entitled to pollute my air space just because you think you can get a rise out of me.

you need to come to grips with reality - you will die and your friends and family will suffer because of your mistake. Thats the point in not smoking next to me at a concert! I don't want to smell that shit after all I have went through watching friends and loved ones die!!!!!!!!!

Do it and you will die because of your stupidity and it will affect others. When you become a burden to others and steal their freedom from no smoke by saying it is your right to do so- you are not practicing free speech! You are forcing people to do something against their will (inhale your smoke) and you my friend are the tyrant, the dictator, and the sole reason that cigarette companies thrive! Continue to support their poison and buy into their lies - let your addiction get the best of you and those who care about you.

As i sat their watching a loved one die - the remorse she felt for smoking and ruining her families lives was unbearable. It filled the room thicker and stronger than any of the cigarettes she smoked over the years. Watch someone slowly die a painful death from this addiction and you will change your tune my friend.
As you live your life in sometimes quiet desperation, facing adversity and tragedy: if you have hope and love, that mixture helps you overcome that tragedy and go on with the rest of your life.”

you have the right to walk away when someone near you is smoking in an area where it's legal for them to smoke. In a place where it's illegal for them to smoke (in an arena for instance), you can notify security and let them take care of it. but quit crying like a baby.

and how, if I don't smoke, am I "the tyrant, the dictator, and the sole reason that cigarette companies thrive?" because I don't care that people smoke? look, I've had the cigarette smoke of other people get in my face and I've been in bars that were filled with smoke like a gas chamber but I don't cry about it like you. why? because I could just not go to that bar. If you're in a seat at a PJ show and someone's smoke is bothering you, ask them to put it out or call security. if you're in the lawn, move.

The information the youth today has available to them was not available to the ones who have lung cancer now. They didn't have the TRUTH commercials, hell, they didn't even have a good number of studies saying that smoking is bad for you. If there some, they weren't widely available or widely known. Nicotine is the most addicting substance known to man. Get em addicted, then throw em away.
