the average game time for a regular season game was 2:50 minutes.

oh! another reason why hockey sucks, SHOOTOUTS! what a demoralizing way to end a game. OT till someone scores would be far more entertaining.
    amen brother.

imagine a football game decided by field goals in overtime...by that I mean each kicker gets to kick 5 and whoever makes the most wins? how silly is that?

listen, I am not saying these figure skaters arent talented, its simply a game of chaos where eventually someone gets lucky and scores. baseball is hardly that.

thats the way it is in the playoffs

it was done in the regular season to award more points which make for better playoff races

which in reality has worked check the standings

also i dont know what u watch but ever shootout i see 20,000 people on their feet watching it
well it s the end of the game and those people are hockey fans. im glad its like that in the playoffs but if they are gonna use shootouts during the regular season, make em longer. its like BAM! done over with.

I will never understand that argument. I paid to be there....take 9 hours. besides, if its something you like to do (watch a game), why would you want it to go by faster? people say the same about football...lets speed it up. why?

im just saying baseball can be very very slow at times
in terms of times of games

granted the 1-0 shutout will be played quick but an american league game with 40 hits and 12 pitching changes and and .... it gets old

fact is the hockey fans will argue till were blue in the face and vice versa

its really a waste of time

    whatever floats your boat enjoy

i will say this hockey players are by far the toughest in any sport in the world

exactly the hockey fans enjoy it

we may say it takes away from the game but fact of the matter is ,,its part of the game now so we enjoy it

you are wrong. i will argure until I am red in the face not blue, baseball doesnt get old, ultimate fighting and football have the toughest athletes, and hockey ranks 18 behind water polo as a fan favorite.

players stay out with turf toe because the guys they play against are such specimens, playing with that ailment can get you killed. besides, they acutally have to run, not happily glide across the ice.

you have to be at your physical peak to play football, and some can still play when injured. when was the last time you saw a hockey player play a game with a broken leg. in a game of such skill and brutality, the slighest injury makes you vulnerable, especially when that injury is your legs. your average football hit is equal to a 40mph car crash...guys get up and do it over and over and over again. hockey players wabble directly to the bench after a mean hit.

they only play 16 because its so violent. if they played more, guys would get killed. again, 40 mph car crash example.

so what, stictches? stitches are for bitches. football players dont get stitches...they just put tape over their open wounds, if anything.

football players are the lamest "athletes" of any sport in the world. they dont take half the abuse that hockey players take ... and btw, hockey players will take that abuse, stitch it up and get right back in the game. football players, on the other hand, get carted off the field on those cute little cars.

and ultimate fighters? yea, a bunch vaguely homosexual dumbasses roll around on the floor with each other in speedos. it shouldnt be called ultimate fighting ... what you have there is ultimate hugging. hey bruno, why dont you go run head first into a fucking wall, you unskilled baboon.

    hockey above all else.

the last sporting event played in historic yankee stadium is going to be a professional hockey game?

say that out loud a few times. maybe the absurdity will sink in. its the fact that its the LAST game.

Yankees make the series, hit a walk offf home run in game 7 againt the mets, become world champions, and then the last game played on that historic site is a fucking hockey game?

    For real?

Hey that doesn't seem so far fetched for Yankee Stadium. The Yankees just signed Billy Crystal to a one day contract which appears to be a gimmick of sort. I think they leave such signings, shennanegans to the KC Royals and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

I could see if this was for charity but just because he's Yankee fan, come on. He didn't even where a Yankee hat in *City Slickers* he wore a Mets hat.

This is supposed to be THE storied franchise in baseball start acting like it.

    i agree. definitely not hockey...
  • How good would the view be if they put in a hockey rink? I'd imagine the rink would be placed in the outfield. If that is the case, it is going to be mighty hard to watch a puck from the seats behind home plate.

I can't see them positioning the rink in that position. I think it would be better to place it with one end facing home plate with fill in stands on the field. That way you bring in the expensive seats on the 1st and 3rd base sides.

I saw Steve Yzerman play for years on one leg (no cartilage in his knee)....he only won an Oly gold and a cup while playing thru the worst of it. And this is a guy considered to be a finesse player, not a grinder or tough guy. I might give the edge to a football player toughness-wise, if getting run over by a car at 40mph makes you tough...but no athlete endures what an NHL player endures in a Stanley Cup run. Not even close.

I have to say...if I cared about baseball, I'd think this game was a travesty. But since I don't, and if I did, I would hate the Yankees...I think it's great :D

I read that they were looking to dig a hole so the people at rink level will have a better vantage point. I hope they add seats on the field. The Buffalo/Pittsburgh game this past Jan. was good. But it would've been better if you could see the fans and hear them.

I agree. I say play the fucking hockey game after this fiasco. I say drill the fucker....in the ankle, ribs, or knee where it will really hurt for a few days.

180 degree change. Play the hockey game.

If you are waiting for the Yankees to close Yankee Stadium with a World Series win, Yankee Stadium will be up a long time...

As for me, I love hockey AND baseball. Actually, they are my 2 favorite sports. I think this game is a good idea. They should do one of these outdoor games every year.

He led off the Yankees today and struckout on a full count pitch. You're right he should have been drilled, but then again he's 60 years old. He might not have been able to handle, but it would be funny to me.

He has no business being on that field when he's only benefiting himself and taking an at bat from some other worthy player. Sheer nonsense.
