  • Love the melody of this song...

    Silver Bells

    City sidewalks, busy sidewalks
    Dressed in holiday style
In the air there's a feeling like Christmas
    Children laughing, people passing
    Meeting smile after smile
And on every street corner you hear

    Silver bells, silver bells
It's Christmas time in the city
    Ring-a-ling, hear them ring
Soon it will be Christmas day

    Strings of street lights
    Even stop lights
Blink a bright red and green
As the shoppers rush home with their treasures
    Hear the snow crunch
    See the kids bunch
    This is Santa's big scene
And above all the bustle you hear

    Silver bells, silver bells
It's Christmas time in the city
    Ring-a-ling, hear them ring
Soon it will be Christmas day
All that's sacred, comes from youth....dedications, naive and true.

LOL! Never heard of that one. I'll have to call up the radio station and see if they have it by request!
    "The leads are weak!"

After seeing that it was George Takei I figured that might be it, but I don't have satelite radio and haven't heard Stern in a couple of years. I'm sure it's a riot!

I used to love that song, but one line annoys me from it - I think it's a line by Bono singing "Thank God it's them instead of you"

I mean are we really thanking God that they're starving and not us while singing a song to raise money for them?

That line just always bothered me. The rest of the song is great though.
I read that Bono hates it too somewhere but I think it's meant to be taken in a "really we should fucking do something about this mess" kind of way. It's ironic. We aren't thanking God that they're starving but rather being grateful that we aren't and we should do something about the people that are.

Or at least that's my take on it.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

While you are off goggling...check out "Merry Fucking Christmas" from the South Park Christmas CD. It makes me snort every time I hear it.

And for the serious stuff...Wizards in Winter by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

  • Christmas
    Blues Traveler

    Comes the
    time for Christmas
And I really have to ask
    If this is feeling merry
How much longer must it last
I wish a one horse open sleigh
    Would come carry me away
But I've been waiting here all day
And one just hasn't come my way
Now excuse me if I'm not being reverent
But I was hoping for a miracle
    to hold me, wash me
    Save me from my righteous
    doubt as I watch helpless
    And everybody sings
    If it's Chanukah or Kwanza
    Solstice, harvest or December twenty-fifth
    Peace on earth to everyone
And abundance to everyone you're with
Laha da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da da
La da da da da da da da
La da da da da da da da da
    Laha da da da da
    Laha da da da da
    Comes the time for Christmas
And as you raise your Yuletide flask
There's like this feeling that you carry
As if from every Christmas past
It's as if each year it grows
It's like you feel it in your toes
And on and on your carol goes
    Harvesting love among your woes
I want to buy into the benevolent
And I was hoping for a miracle
    to hold me, wash me
Make me know what it's about
As the longing in me makes me want to sing
    Noel or Navidad
Season celebration or just the end of the year
    Christmas can mean anything
And I mean to keep its hope forever near
Laha da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da da
La da da da da da da da da
La da da da da da da da da da
    Laha da da da da
    Laha da da da da
As if a cold and frozen soul is warm to love
    By loves own hand
So goes the prayer if for a day peace on earth
    And good will to man
At twenty below the winter storm it billows
But the fire is so warm inside
And the children while nestled in their pillows
    Dream of St. Nicholas's ride
And how the next day they'll get
    up and they will play
In the still falling Christmas snow
    And together we'll celebrate forever
In defiance of the winds that blow
My god in heaven now I feel like I'm seven
And spirit calls to me as well
As if Christmas had made the winter warmer
Made a paradise from what was hell
As if a cold and frozen soul is warm to love
    By loves own hand
So goes the prayer if for a day peace on earth
    And good will to man.......
I wish a one horse open sleigh
    would come carry me away
And I'll keep waiting through next May
    Until Christmas comes my way
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...
