I was wondering what people's opinion were to be on getting up and taking off across country to somewhere?

i moved with a friend to CA from WI... all we had was her car.. what would fit in it... no jobs or apts lined up..... one of the best things ive done. i think im a life long drifter in the sense that i cannot imagine living in one place for too long. CA was the longest so far at two years! when i am finished where i am, it will have been a year... and i am so excited to know that in a few months i will be living somewhere new (and I have no idea where yet) :)

if i didnt have student loan debt.. id just travel the world and work as i go.

Cool... I am just thinking of picking up and going. Ive traveled alot over the past year and just looking for somewhere to land. I can get a job almost anywhere and not afraid of new adventures. Its like..."okay Ive done the woods thing...err...time to move on." I was always taught by the P's to be grounded and stay in one place. I find it hard to do and always move like every two years even if its within the same town or state. Wanting to be on the road must be in the blood.

Looking at an atlas today.... possibilities Florida, Texas and Washington... want to be near the coastline somewhere... I have to laugh... I started ruling out Florida only because I'd have to drive through my homestate and feel guilty if I didnt stop and visit my parents. Who would definately stop me.
  • I wish....I owe too much money to not have money coming in plus I am not rich to begin with.

Texas is starting to look real good... Washington too much like northern WI.
  • oh dont feel bad, its all good. Go on your walkabout and send pics of your trips and Iwill live vicariously through you.
When I am thinking I want to go wander, I just go chop wood and then the feeling goes away.

I think if you want to do it, and you're able to do it, you GOTTA do it! I would love to but I'm poor and working on college stuff.

Good for you! Do it! I feel I will want to wander the earth forever...I just always want change. I've lived in several different countries and would like to move again in about a year to year and a half (depending on when PJ tour! LMAO). My options are open; I'm looking at anywhere from Seattle (I've lived there before) to China to Belgium to Boston...so anywhere really. :) If I don't decide where I want to go in a year's time I told myself I would join the CIA. hahahaha

But anyway, yeah, go for it, man!

  • Yeah I am with Cree on this one. If I had no debt right now I would love to just pick up and move somewhere else. I mean I realized I just moved to Calgary in October but I would like to move somewhere more exciting and be near water again. If I was able to work in the USA I would move to Boston but I am still holding out on being able to move to Dublin.

    KosmicJelli,

I think you just gave me a great idea for what I want to do with my life. I think I'm gonna get myself some teaching licenses and/or equate degree(s) and travel around into different countries teaching English.

usually alone.... there is more freedom and it forces you to meet ppl. just like when i travel.. i prefer to go alone so i can do what i want... selfish, i know. CA was with a friend.... she didnt want to go alone and i had no future plans at the time so i went with.

and i am seriously considering teaching english abroad as well.. i have a friend doing it in china and he told me a ton of good info on it....
  • IT IS THE BEST WAY AND THE BEST SCHOOL , the world is so big....., love to see it.....
once understand life is not fair
everything become more clear and simple
wish to all of you freedom

Try TAIWAN , it is even better , good money too , a lot of people live in Thailand and go to teach English in Taipei for 4 months a year and can travel around ASIA for the rest of the year , just try it ......

I have been thinking of doing it... travelling lite. Sell my house and things and just go. I basically have been doing it for 8 months now, travelling all over the US... maybe just spotting out a place to land? Great support from you folks. The paranoid self is kicking in...like I would become a drifter end up with my body on the side of the road kinda thing.

great idea, once you're there doing it don't forget to take pictures so we can all admire your trip............well i know i will! :)

i love travelling not to get to a certain destination but the whole idea of just being on the move and getting new experiences along the way.

if you do decide to go somewhere, make sure you have everything that will keep you alive and protected and can get help if one day you might need one, but don't try to plan it too much. from what i've learned in a day to day life great things turn out when it's unplanned, plan to much and get stressed and get dissappointment. just go with the flow......... ;):)
