    I'd say Ty Cobb was the best all-around player ever. And best pure hitter.

    One could make arguments for Honus Wagner and Babe Ruth as well.

    ...and Willie Mays... but I believe the above 3 to be better.

    I did go to the same college as Biggio, but Babe Ruth is the best baseball player of all time. This is coming from a Mets fan. Ruth had years where he hit more home runs than entire teams. Plus he was a great pitcher. Complete dominance in every aspect of the game.

    Craig Biggio's niece is one of my students in the leadership class that I teach at Troy University. Biggio is a pretty good choice.

    My pick, however, is Ted Williams - not only the best hitter in MLB history, but also one of the best Marine Corps fighter pilots of all time.
