GreenTeaDisease wrote:ugh me too. I refused to wear one until I was in jr high even though I pretty much needed one at 9. but my mum didn't bug me too much about it. I did have to learn about periods at 9, because the doctor told my mum it might be coming soon. She didn't mention anything about sex when she told me about it, she basically said "once a month women bleed and your tummy hurts and it's perfectly normal and just tell me when it happens and I'll show you what to do." I just inferred it had something to do with sex, but didn't understand the actual science of it until my 7th grade bio class...luckily 9 turned out to be too early, it didn't come until 11, which was horrific enough, I was still the first girl in my class.
I started wearing a bra at 9, and started my period at 10...just a few months after I learned what it was...lol. I was the first girl in my class for both of those. I matured very early!0 -

no at 8yrs old ...
They where giving me detailed info. They where telling me about foreplay, masturbation, the whole nine my friend. They thought it would be hillarious when I asked my parents the next morning why a woman would give a guy a hand job in a movie theatre, which I did ask because they told me to ask. Needless to say I was the sex expert in my grade and my brothers where grounded for sometime. My friends and I still joke about it till this day how I opened their eyes to a whole new world that one fatefull day in 3rd grade."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

haha meeeee too. I think it was a sign that I lost all my baby teeth before I was 5, and I was five feet tall and almost 100 lbs by second grade.
god I was terrified of wearing a bra to school though. I *knew* people would find out and just tear me apart for it. Even when I finally started wearing them, I wore nothing but sports bras for about 5 years. yeah the whole girly girl thing was not big where I grew up...

lol, oh my god, you lost all your teeth before 5!? That's insane! I started losing them at five and finished at 11. As far as height goes, I was the third tallest girl in my class for like 3 months at the beginning of 6th grade, lol. And then I grew about 2 more inches over the next 4 years, and that was it.
I remember being humiliated by the bra thing, too...but, I was also humiliated by the breasts that were like busting out of my shirts, so I had to do something...lol. People said things either way. I basically started having a very "womanly" figure by the time I was 10, and I felt very awkward about the whole thing.0 -
Brain of J.Lo wrote:That can be a problem, if it comes a little too naturally, and the parents aren't talking about it.
If for nothing else, the parents need to know where the kids stand and whether or not they understand how to get and use birth control.
I don't know, I feel like I knew about all that stuff, somehow. I did read more newspapers and stuff than the average pubescent kid...I don't think I actually knew where to *get* birth control, other than the doctor and for that you'd need mum to take you so I wasn't about to ask for that, and I knew that I wasn't going to get birth control I certainly wasn't going to have sex. but through my entire teenage years I never considered actually having sex so it wasn't a problem. Maybe because I went to an inner city high school and there were TONS of pregnant girls around me every day, but always just thought sex=pregnant and not going to college. from age 12 to 18, I basically had 2 goals in life: going to rock shows and getting into college, and I wasn't going to take ANY chances that might fuck that up.0 -

yep, you were damned if you did and damned if you didn't. I solved the problem by wearing ENORMOUS sweatshirts at all times and when it was too hot layering tshirts. not a good solution.
and yeah, I stopped growing when I was 12. When I am at my perfect weight, I am the exact same size I was when I was in 7th grade.0 -

oh I was also REALLY afraid of getting diseases and I didn't trust condoms (I mean something the size of a virus can EASILY sneak past you no matter what you do). I think I was soooo into science, there was no way I was taking any chances. it seemed absurd to do so to me in high school when your future is riding on your actions.0

I was the tallest person in the class all through elementary. the doctor once estimated that *I* would be about 5'9". I was very excited. this doctor, apparently, didn't understand the concept of early development very well, because I reached my adult height in 6th grade- 5'3.5"-and suddenly became the shortest kid from then on.0 -
damm girls have it way harder than us guys by the responses that seals it for me glad my wife will have the talk with my daughter ....jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

Ah the talk
I remember it well. My dad told me a few synonyms for cock that I didn't know yet, explained stuff that I knew but in more detail, then we went to see Men In Black. fun day

My mom just noted one day that since we were reading youth mags (there are sections relating to sex and questions that arise at a certain age in those around here) anyway, we probably knew more than her, but if we had questions we could ask any timeYou can tell a man from what he has to say - Neil & Tim Finn
They love you so badly for sharing their sorrow, so pick up that guitar and go break a heart - Kris Kristofferson0 -
Lol, I never got a talk. I wouldn't even know where to begin with my son if I ever had one. Everything I learned was from school. Then when I was 15 and my mom was pregnant she asked me if I knew how that happened and I said yes and that was it.Happiness is only real when shared0

well part of it is that girls develop soooo much faster than boys. I mean most of us have to deal with changing bodies in elementary school! You're kid is 14- by 14 I'd already been "a woman" for years. So if you have a talk with girls, it's talking to a child, not a teenager.0
