bored so why not put them in order, that in my opinion they stack up being the toughest ...1 being the toughest 6 being the weakest or wimpiest ....

(1) hockey players ,get hit in the face with the puck no problem keep on skating..

(2) american football players ,yeah i know they wear all the pads but still go ask tom brady how he felt after the super bowl ..

(3) rugby players no pads just skin & bones they take good hits also ..

(4) basketball players yeah they take hits also specially underneath the hoop ..

(5) baseball players they are wimps occasionally the catcher will take a good hit but otherwise they sit with the sleightest pain ...

(6)soccer players these guys are total wimps just watch a game these fuckers fall & roll around the ground as if they got run over by a truck ...

so there it is agree or dissagree or post your own list unless none cares ...

  • I agree completely with your list. Perfect order.
Things were different then. All is different now.

I think catchers should be placed in their own category without the baseball players...they're above and beyond a baseball player. Well most of them. Just the amount of shots they take over such a long season.

I am by no means a soccer (football) fan, but I can't beleive you put them below baseball. You have to be pretty tuff to run around that field all day.. baseball for the most part is really stationary. You need rest after a game of soccer. Baseball can be played as often as possible, with little rest needed, for example double headers.

I agree with hockey though. Not a game for wimps, but I would put American football ahead of that based on the fact that players need a whole week to recover from one game.

    touche ;)
however, because of him, throat guards are now used for catchers, I don't think they're mandatory for hockey players though

The problem i have with Soccer... they are place kickers and punters who are not good enough for the NFL. I mean, how many times have you seen a special teams play graze a punter... who falls to the ground, writhing in pain like he was shot by a bazooka? I've seen better acting in Mentos commercials.
Soccer players are even worse... run by them too fast and you'd think they got punched in the face by a rabid, psycho donkey.

They're not mandatory for catchers either, however if that happens and you're not wearing one in a situation that it would have helped, you're a dumbass. Not to mention it'd deflect some of those balls that hit them in the throat as well. But yeah, baseball players are still the biggest pussies around except for some cathers.

Surely this only applies to American soccer players?

Anyways, I'd have rugby above American Football, and I'd throw in MMA fighters.

As an ex-rugger,I thought I'd post a clip of some great rugby hits:

    http://www.doubleviking.com/videos/tag/awesome/page0.html/6651.html

As someone who has played both, I'd say playing rugby was a lot tougher on the body than American football but a helluva a lot more fun. I played mainly blocking fullback and guard in football and rarely got to touch the ball. Nothing was more fun than running through 4 people in rugby for a try (touchdown) - scored almost 20 during college. Plus you got to lay some wicked hits on people.

Plus one other thing about rugby is its constant motion like soccer. No time outs or substitutions - except for injuries - unlike in American football. And afterwards, you are truly worn out after playing a game.

I'm gonna get myself in trouble now, but I don't consider American Football, Baseball, Basketball & Ice Hokey as real sports. Not many people outside North America really care.

Now are we talking tough, as in macho man tough here?
Or just the toughness of the physical exertion on the athlete from the sport itself rather than opponents?
In that case don't they say the Tour de France in the toughest sporting event!

As a side note, I heard somewhere that the past time/hobbie that causes the most deaths each year is FISHING !!!!

hockey is a very tough sport. where else can you throat slashed by a skate and still be back the next week. oh my all time fav, former captain of the red wings steve y playing on one leg in the playoffs and still being better then all the other players on the ice . as for the rest i agree. hockey is def a not north american sport its played all over the world. its even played in ireland

Fair enough on hockey. But the others seem more like a circus show than a sport.
Maybe I just haven't watched enough of those sports to form a valid opinion.

All of those sports are very global though, with the exception of American Football.

Basketball is obviously growing quickly since team USA can't beat anyone anymore. Same with Baseball.

It seems such an event for people in the US to go watch a sporting match, whatever it may be.
I remember going to watch Man Utd play AC Milan (soccer!) at the Giants Stadium a few years ago. And me & my friends just turned up 30 mins before kick off, had a quick beer, then took out seats for the match. When the match was over we grabbed a taxi back into Manhattan and that was that.

But the American spectators seemsed to make a real day-out of it.
Speaking to some people at the stadium they were saying they'd been there since 9am !!!
The whole car park outside the stadium was full with families having picnics and just enjoying the whole day, not jusy going for the match.
A friend of mine who's lived out in Phoenix for 10 years was saying this is pretty normal which most sporting events.

Over here in the UK, it's very much just about THE MATCH.
But over in the US is seems to be more about the OCCASION.
Correct me if I'm talking shit! I just find the whole thing fascinating.

That's usually occurs during special events such as this or NFL football games, since those only happen once a week.

Tell that to Norman "Bite yer Legs" Hunter and the Man City Goalkeeper who carried on playing even though he'd broken his neck during the game.
