I was just in New York last month and went to a Yankees/Red Sox game.... I was stunned to see the way that the Yankees fans were screaming obsenities at the Red Sox fans and even so much as throwing food at them. I had ketchup splattered all across my clothes because some childish Yankees fan decided to throw his hot dog at a Red Sox fan. Not cool.... I guess I was just naive, but to see actual fist fights breaking out in the stands that the police have to get involved and escort people out....I was overwhelmed by that.
It's the alcohol, but it's also people with bad attitudes. They need to stop selling alcohol at a certain point during the games.....I have season tickets for the Edmonton Oilers and they stop selling alcohol after the second intermission. It works...
Like I said, alcohol yes, but bad attitudes make it even worse. There were four guys sitting behind us and they were hammered!!!!!! Three of them were Yankees fans and one of them was a Red Sox fans...they all talked shit to each other, but they were friends. They weren't screaming at other fans or threatening to kick anyone's ass or throwing food.....
It was a good game and I enjoyed it, but people take this stuff way too seriously. I'm a huge sports fan so I understand being passionate about your team and all, but take it down a notch.
Besides having sat through numerous games at Yankee Stadium between the two in the stands and in the pressbox, the one incident that truly stands out happened outside of the stadium in 2005 or 2006.
It was on the D train, a yankee fan and a Red Sox fan were chatting. It appeared to be informal chit-chat, banter etc, but it wasn't. When the Red Sox fan exited the D train at 59th street, the Yankee fan threw a glass bottle in their direction. Fortunately for all parties involved it missed the intended target.

Ain't that the truth. If things were reversed NY'ers would be all over this story like hot butter on popcorn.
Seriously though alcohol is the baseline to this story, it seems people get a bit braver or foolish with too much alcohol in there system. I'm going to Yankee Stadium sometime this year before it closes and I'll have my Sox hat and I'll see for myself how unruly things MIGHT get.
I just want to see a game any game in Yankee Stadium and hopefully everyone will coduct themselves as adults. We shall see.

I was at a Sox/Yanks game at Fenway last Fall. These two Yankee fans (brothers in their 20's) were in our House and should have known better. One of them dropped their pants right in front of everyone. That didn't last long. Another Yankee fan went and got security, he was escorted out. 2nd inninng too in the Monster Seats. What a moron.
