looks good to me, mook! can't wait for the official annoucement!
yep, me too! i'll be watching sportsnet on feb. 4th for the press conference. it's quite a big deal that sportnet is showing it live. we may not have even heard about it on the sports channels just a couple of years ago.
looks like cards have to be submitted once again due to the change in the status of alan belcher. i went with the same...almeida by submission in the first!
thanks for the heads-up, commissioner mookie...
won't be able to watch All Access tonight, as I will be rocking out to Wintersleep at The Pheonix.... :D:D

hey ceg, i just caught this on mmajunkie...(after dropping you some well wishes for the fishin' trip! )
i didn't think the pre-sale would start so long before general public sales! anyway, if you're back on sunday evening maybe you can have a peak, if not, whenever you get back. i've been trying to find info on where is best to sit and by most accounts, we'll have the best perspective from centre ice, either in the last few rows of the lower bowl or in the first few rows of the next level...but we may not be able to be "choosy" (is that a word?, choosie, maybe? ) anyway, just thought i would give you the heads up.
it's officially oficial!

sweet, i was hoping you hadn't left for your trip! that's weird that there were no emails. they should get their shit together! haha
i wouldn't worry about hurrying home. no doubt this will sell out, but i'm thinking it'll be in the few hours after the general public tickets go on sale.
so rancho relaxo on the fishin' trip. we should be cool for good seats...what are your thoughts on that area...lower bowl, last few rows, centre ice? sound ok? most people who have attended events and have advice that i've read have said to try to avoid the first few rows of the lower bowl and the outskirts of the floor because of the cage and all the camera people and event staff around the cage. supposedly if you can get to a point where you can look down into the cage and use the big screens to catch the up close ground action, then that is ideal...just passing along the info...it's entirely up to you, so wherever you think is best.

actually, i think that the front of the upper level would be best, or the top of the lower level like you said... we'll see how the pricing shakes out. i agree that if we're too low, that the view could be blocked... plus, they'll be a fortune.
i'll bring binoculars...

also countdown to UFC 81 and all access: brock lesnar with releash...i mean...rachelle leah...on spike tv tonight.
I'm putting in my picks now, Comm. Mookie!
LMFAO!!! If you could only see how far from Rachelle Leah I look right now. I might resemble a female version of Clay Guida after not showering or sleeping for the last 40 hours! (I'm not sure though, I'm afraid to look in a mirror)

hahah
i resemble evan tanner when he was growing his beard in the middle of his hiautus from fighting (don't know if you saw those...but the fans were wondering if he'd gone crazy or was homeless ) so i'm doing pretty well myself. ceg can dress up in her kiss outfit and we'll be all set! like our own "tapout" crew.
good luck on the picks. i found this one tough on a few of the matches. i think nogueira was the only one i picked with bias because i relly hope he wins, but also i feel he is the tougher, more well rounded fighter. i hope!
+1 to what you said about the tickets as well. i think we're all on the same page...affordable, yet decent view. i'd have to say that area we talked about is our best bet. much better than paying too much to sit too low and spend the whole show trying to watch the big screen!
...although a rua vs. liddell match up will be very good to see as well. so i guess there is still one fight to be announced for the montreal show now, and possibly two if dong hyun kim turns out to be fighting later as well.
PM UPDATE – JAN. 31
What’s happening in the world of mixed martial arts now …
By Loretta Hunt
When the UFC makes its Canadian debut on Saturday, April 19 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will not be a part of the roster. Rua – who is recovering from surgery last October to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee -- told the media in recent weeks that he was eyeing a fight in April, but the former PRIDE Fighting Championships Middleweight Grand Prix Champion will likely return to the Octagon in May or June.
“We wanted it, but the UFC didn't have a spot available in April,” said a member of Rua’s camp. “They already have an opponent for him in June, although we were trying to have a fight in May.”
In a recent interview with SportsIllustrated.com, former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell said he believed the 26-year-old Brazilian could be his next opponent at a UFC event tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 14 at the O2 Arena in London. Liddell (21-5) told SI.com he preferred the contender’s bout be held in Las Vegas instead.
If the match-up happens in June, Rua will enter the Octagon on the heels of a nine-month layoff following his shocking loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 76 “Knockout” on Sept. 22 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Tagged the heavy favorite, an exhausted Rua succumbed to a rear-naked choke at the hands of Griffin late in the third round. Rua's UFC debut, the bout was only his second loss in 14 bouts.
Liddell, 38, is enjoying the fruits of his labor after his Dec. 29 decision victory over Rua’s former teammate, Wanderlei Silva (31-8), at UFC 79 in Las Vegas. A back-and-forth melee of punches coming from all directions, the critically acclaimed bout was five years in the making for UFC president Dana White.
As aggressive as Liddell, Rua could prove just as an engaging opponent as Silva. Previously ranked one of the top three light heavyweights in the world, the poised former runway model severed ties with the Chute Boxe Academy in December. Rua is currently training with his brother, Murilo “Ninja” Rua, at a new facility in Curitiba, Brazil.
so all the bouts are confirmed for montreal except two. you know mirko cro cop hasn't fought in a while...hmm....;)
it's going to be deafening before the main event!
UFC president: Montreal will set record
Thursday, January 31, 2008
THE CANADIAN PRESS
LAS VEGAS -- The UFC's Canadian debut April 19 in Montreal will be the UFC's biggest ever, UFC president Dana White predicted Thursday.
"It's going to be crazy. Twenty-two thousand, we're going to sell it out," White told The Canadian Press after a news conference for Saturday's UFC 81 show at the Mandalay Bay. "We're going to sell out the Bell Centre."
The UFC's current attendance record of 19,049 was set at UFC 68 on March 3, 2007, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio -- a show that produced the biggest crowd ever for a mixed martial arts event in North America. The gate of US3 million-plus was also tops for the Columbus arena, erasing the previous record held by the Rolling Stones.
"Canada will be the (attendance) record. Canada will be the biggest UFC event ever," said White.
Tickets for UFC 83: Serra vs. St. Pierre 2 in Montreal have yet to go on sale, although members of the UFC's fan Fight Club can take part in a pre-sale starting Sunday. More ticket information is expected Monday when White and headline fighters Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra hold a news conference in Montreal.
Serra upset St. Pierre at UFC 69 in April in Houston to win the 170-pound title. But when Serra injured his back and had to withdraw from a scheduled bout with Matt Hughes at UFC 79 in December, St. Pierre stepped in and beat Hughes to claim the interim title. Serra and St. Pierre will now decide the championship for real in Montreal, St. Pierre's home town.
White says the early word on Canadian ticket sales is very bright, saying the organization is getting bombarded with inquiries asking not when tickets go on sale, but how many can people buy.
"We've been dying to go there. Now that we're going, I think the fans are going to be insane up there. I think it's going to be great, I'm excited," he said.
The Montreal card also features former middleweight champion Rich Franklin against Travis Lutter, White confirmed.
Middleweight Jason (The Athlete) MacDonald has confirmed he is taking on Winnipeg's Joe Doerksen on the undercard while other reports have Toronto lightweight Marc Bocek facing Mac Danzig, lightweight Sam Stout of London, Ont., facing Rich Clementi, middleweight Kalib Starnes of Surrey, B.C., fighting Nate Quarry and welterweight Jonathan Goulet of Victoriaville, Que., tackling Kuniyoshi Hironaka.
"When you're going to have that many eyeballs and that much focus on an event, we want to make the Canadians stars in Canada," White said.
Despite the Canadian fan interest, the UFC president believes Canadian sponsors have a way to go to appreciate a fighter like St. Pierre.
"That kid is such a home run for sponsors, man," he said. "You've got a kid from Canada that's as good-looking, athletic and fights like this kid fights and he's not the darling of Canada. It's beyond me. I don't get it."
hey guys, that's awsome news about the montreal show, too bad i'm not a member of the fan club so i guess i have to wait for the public onsale. Will definatly be there though.
I've put in my 1st picks for 81 but i'm not too sure on them so they might change before saturday night, hopin brock can some how pull this out though.
civ_eng, how was wintersleep? I see you've seen them 5 times now so i'd expect them to be good live. I just haven't really gotten into them yet, heard the one song on the edge and think it's great, actually i might get the cd this weekend.
Anyways, i'll post my picks up here sometime saturday before the fights, have a good friday everyone.

Michael Bisping vs. Charley McCarthy Set for UFC 83
MMA Junkie.com
February 1, 2008
“The Ultimate Fighter 3” winner Michael Bisping (14-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), who last suffered a split-decision loss to Rashad Evans in the main event of UFC 78, will make his middleweight debut vs. Charles McCarthy (10-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at a UFC 83 event in Montreal.
Bisping confirmed the fight during a recent video interview with Sportsnet.ca.
The Bisping-McCarthy fight was tentatively scheduled to take place at a March 8 event in England. Although the event was never officially announced, multiple fighters and agents told MMAjunkie.com that the event was in the works. However, the UFC scrapped plans for the event within the past couple weeks.
With the England event postponed/delayed, Bisping — one of the U.K.‘s most popular fighters — will instead fight at Montreal’s Bell Centre, which hosts UFC 83 on April 19.
Bisping only recently decided to move to middleweight. The 28-year-old cited a distinct size disadvantage as a reason; many fellow light heavyweights were cutting weight from 220 or 225 lbs. down to 205, whereas Bisping was dropping from just 210 lbs.
Bisping’s loss to Evans back in November snapped his 14-fight win streak, which included a controversial split-decision victory over Matt Hamill in September.
As for McCarthy, he’ll look for his second consecutive win inside the octagon. The 27-year-old suffered a legendary TKO (via spinning back kick) to David Loiseau at UFC 53 before earning a spot on “The Ultimate Fighter 4,” a special “comeback” season of the UFC's popular reality series. He lost to Pete Sell in a preliminary bout but bounced back for a first-round submission of Gideon Ray in the show’s live finale.
The UFC 83 fight will be McCarthy’s first in more than 17 months.
just finished watching the weigh-ins. everybody made weight and looked to be in about the same shape as usual. chris lylte, though, was probabaly in the best shape i've ever seen him and tim boetsh is huge for 205...almost thought he was going to weight in about 20 lbs over!
lots of boo's for brock lesnar, and they had him come out second which is probably a little insulting to frank mir. not too many boo's for tim sylvia this time around, though. more cheers than boo's for a change.
also, rob emerson is sporting some cheesy new ink...a spartan mask from the movie 300 (could be a gang thing ), and terry martin gave marvin eastman a little shove after not appreciating eastman getting too close for the stare down. martin received absolutely no response at all when he came out. just silence, then joe even had to ask the audience "not even a little clap?"
Main Card:
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (237) Vs. Tim Sylvia (261) - "Interim" HW Championship
Brock Lesnar (265) Vs. Frank Mir (255)
Nate Marquardt (185) Vs. Jeremy Horn (185)
Ricardo Almeida (185) Vs. Rob Yundt (185) (Alan Belcher out due to illness)
Tyson Griffin (155) Vs. Gleison Tibau (156)
Pre-lims:
Chris Lytle (170) Vs. Kyle Bradley (170)
Terry Martin (186) Vs. Marvin Eastman (185)
David Heath (205) Vs. Tim Boetsch (205)
Rob Emerson (155) Vs. Keita Nakamura (155)
ceg and releash, gray is making his return quickly, and in a huge match...possibly on one of the best cards ever!
Report: Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard Booked for UFC Fight Night 13
MMA Junkie.com
February 1, 2008
A UFC Fight Night 13 event already brimming with talent just got an extra heaping of star-power: undefeated lightweight Frankie Edgar (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) has been booked to take on “The Ultimate Fighter 5” standout Gray Maynard (4-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at the event.
Our friends at fiveounesofpain.com confirmed the match-up with Edgar himself.
UFC Fight Night 13 takes place April 2 at the Broomfield Event Center near Denver, Colo., and serves as a lead-in for the upcoming seventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Kenny Florian meets Joe Lauzon in the night’s main event, and the rumored fight card is stacked from top to bottom.
Edgar, a New Jersey native, most recently competed at UFC 78, where he handed Spencer Fisher just his fourth loss in 24 professional fights. The victory pushed Edgar’s UFC record to 3-0, which includes a first-round TKO of Mark Bocek at UFC 73. Additionally, Edgar scored a unanimous decision at UFC 67 to deliver Tyson Griffin the only loss of his career.
Edgar will combat a fellow wrestler when he takes on Maynard, who is part of Randy Couture’s Xtreme Couture team. Maynard was a cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 5,” where the 28-year-old posted victories over Wayne Weems in a preliminary fight and Brandon Melendez in the show’s quarterfinals. However, eventual show winner Nate Diaz stopped him in the show’s semifinals.
Maynard, who wrestled with UFC light heavyweight Rashad Evans at Michigan State University, returned at the show’s live finale to face Rob Emerson. However, the fight was ruled a no-contest when Maynard appeared to temporarily knock himself unconscious when he slammed Emerson to the mat. Both fighters were unable to continue.
Maynard has since posted UFC victories over Joe Veres (UFC Fight Night 11) and Dennis Siver (UFC Fight Night 12).
The latest rumored card for UFC Fight Night 13 now includes:
Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon
Stephan Bonnar vs. Matt Hamill
Thiago Alves vs. Karo Parisyan
Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin
Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard
Clay Guida vs. Samy Schiavo
Marcus Aurelio vs. Spencer Fisher
Josh Neer vs. Din Thomas
George Sotiropoulos Vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
Anthony Johnson vs. Tommy Speer
good luck with the picks, lbc. i hope you're not right about the decision win for sylvia, though! haha ceg's picks were very similar as well, so this may come down to methods and times etc. once again.
UFC 83 is listed on UFC.com under the events heading! the only confrirmed bout they have listed is georges vs. matt, but most of the others have been confirmed by conference calls and press conferences this weekend.
looks like tickets will range fom 50$ - 550$. i'm thinking sections 201 and 213 look most appealing, depending on price, of course.

waiting out the afternoon for the show watching some older fights...thinking how much more excited i would be for this show if it was couture vs. nogueira! friggin' randy!
is there a free live online broadcast somewhere tonight?
sorry, longrd., not that i'm aware of. i know there are ways that people do get the live streams through the internet, but i'm not "in the know" as far as that goes. i'm ordering the PPV later on, but i think i'm the only one watching it tonight.
is there a free live online broadcast somewhere tonight?
i should have mentioned that if you wanted to see the show later on the files are usually uploaded by people to bittorrent sites by the morning. not sure if that helps...
just on my way out to boston pizza to watch the fights. Still have hope that brock is going to take Mir down in the 2nd and GNP to a TKO. Good luck with your picks everyone.

The UFC 83 fight will be McCarthy’s first in more than 17 months.

lots of boo's for brock lesnar, and they had him come out second which is probably a little insulting to frank mir. not too many boo's for tim sylvia this time around, though. more cheers than boo's for a change.
also, rob emerson is sporting some cheesy new ink...a spartan mask from the movie 300 (could be a gang thing ), and terry martin gave marvin eastman a little shove after not appreciating eastman getting too close for the stare down. martin received absolutely no response at all when he came out. just silence, then joe even had to ask the audience "not even a little clap?"
Main Card:
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (237) Vs. Tim Sylvia (261) - "Interim" HW Championship
Brock Lesnar (265) Vs. Frank Mir (255)
Nate Marquardt (185) Vs. Jeremy Horn (185)
Ricardo Almeida (185) Vs. Rob Yundt (185) (Alan Belcher out due to illness)
Tyson Griffin (155) Vs. Gleison Tibau (156)
Pre-lims:
Chris Lytle (170) Vs. Kyle Bradley (170)
Terry Martin (186) Vs. Marvin Eastman (185)
David Heath (205) Vs. Tim Boetsch (205)
Rob Emerson (155) Vs. Keita Nakamura (155)
Tommy Speer

sorry, longrd., not that i'm aware of. i know there are ways that people do get the live streams through the internet, but i'm not "in the know" as far as that goes. i'm ordering the PPV later on, but i think i'm the only one watching it tonight.
i should have mentioned that if you wanted to see the show later on the files are usually uploaded by people to bittorrent sites by the morning. not sure if that helps...
nakamura vs. emerson just about to start in 15 mins. or so. i'm hoping nakamura can get a quick sub so we'll get to see the match later on.
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
