Thread for those who didn't like Brett Favre...

I will respectfully honor the wishes of those who started the other Brett Favre thread (for no negativity), but I will start my own. Anyone else hate Brett Favre? I liked him back in the day, but when he started his whiny, diva-like primadona off season soap operas, I just lost it.

As for his play on the field, Brett was a slightly above-average quarterback who threw far too many interceptions. He isn't even the third best quarterback of the last two decades (Brady, Payton and Elway have him beat in that regard, and Roethlisberger is closing in as well.)

    agree 100% Favre is one of the all time greats.

    and it was the media more then Brett that made the off season "dramatic", so i really dont know what to say to that.

    Nah, I don't hate him. I would not put him in league with Brady and Manning, but he was fun to watch most of the time. He'd chuck the ball anywhere, anytime. That's also why he lost a lot, but I doubt he'll be remembered for that.

    How many times did Michael Jordan miss the game-winning shot? I think it was at least 30 or so. Nobody cares.

    Oh yeah, i forgot, Big Ben Rothlisberger is no where near the player the Brett is. He is a Hack and will that will be seen in the coming years.

    and if Brett was so Avg. why does he then own more records then any other QB ? yeah i know, he threw the most interceptions blah blah blah, but when you pass as much as the packers had him passing, that will happen.

    I just heard a radio host from New England who's a Cheesehead ripping Favre on ESPN radio. I don't know if they offer Podcasting, but if they do, the guy's name is Mike Phelger (sp?) from Boston's ESPN affiliate. He said he was a native Wisconsite (is that the correct term?) but since he moved to New England a few years ago he lost his desire to be a "sycophant." He bodyslammed Favre and the fawning coverage he thinks he got. Talked about how many games FAvre's "gunslinger" attitude cost the Pack and ripped him for his play in the second half of the NFC Championship. The guy added that at least A. Rodgers would pass to check-down receivers. He said Favre thought HE was the franchise, not the QB. Pretty crazy stuff to hear about the guy on a day when people -- myself included -- have lionized him as if he died in a tragic QB-center-exchange accident. LeRoy Butler said that Favre's insistence on signing Moss, which from what I understand wasn't a reason for his retirement, was an "insult" to the receivers who led the league in yards after catch.

    16 seasons MOFO, and at least 12 of which were greatness!

    Aikman, Young, Bledsoe, now Favre (I'll add Marino/Elawy too though they were part of the great 80's too)...end of a great era.

    i agree, he was the last of special kind of player. we will not see that type of player for a long time if ever again.

    Brett Favre is everything that makes the NFL the best league in all of sports. If you cant appreciate him, then you cant appreciate how important sports are.

    If more professional athletes played with as much passion and determination as Brett Favre professional sports as a whole would be much better. I love the way he played the game.

    I should write a journal article on Brett Favre and the ridiculous amounts of love that guy gets. Yeah he was pretty good, great-ish even, though probably only the best QB in the league for a two season stretch. Even Kurt Warner has done that. What Favre did was tap into the inner racist in white people, the gunslinglin' hard nosed, blue collar work ethic that we white people just all adore...ugh. The funny thing is that if Favre were not white he'd be a drug addicted (vicodin) animal killer (his love of hunting) with PETA all over him, but he's Brett Favre father of Jesus Christ, and the mother of nature, so he can do no wrong. Why aren't more people on him for using drugs to break the record for games started in a row? Is he any less of a cheater than Bonds or Clemens? I personally think Favre is a fuck who got away with a whole lot, and was built up in the media for playing his part as a southern gentlemen to perfection. good riddance.

    It's got nothing to do with race, dude. I've never heard of any non-white athlete get bad press because they liked to hunt. And Farve did get bad press back when his drug addiction was revealed. But he got over it, and people usually see that as a good thing.

    BTW, vicodin doesn't help you perform better like steriods, and nobody really cares about how many games he started. They care about how he played the game and how he conducted himself on the field.

    Anyone who doesn't put him 'in the same league' as Brady and Manning obviously didn't watch him from 1994 - 1998. 3 consecutive MVP's (unprecedented) and 2 consecutive trips to the Super Bowl. He should have won the Super Bowl MVP in 1996 and would have won it the next year had the pulled out the victory. The Iron Man streak, all of the records, overcoming the lack of supporting cast for many years, overcoming personal tragedy (Raiders game) and the list goes on and on.

    Manning has had a worse playoff choke history than Favre ever has and Brady has had far and away better coaching and roster management around him. Aside from this past year when his roster was loaded, Brady hasn't exactly blown Favre's stats out of the water or anything.

    Aside from an anti-Favre bias or being too young to know what you're talking about, I can't honestly see how anyone can say Brady and Manning are head and shoulders above Favre. Personally, I would put all 3 in the top 10, with Favre slightly ahead. Manning and Brady both have plenty of football left and can certainly overtake Favre down the road, but to minimalize his career like that at this point is just lacking in football knowledge and history.

    This is the worst post in the history of this forum. Farve had a pain killer problem, yet who doesn't in the NFL? He was man enough to see his problem, admit, and change it. More than anyone else has done in the NFL. That racist comment is pure shit. Favre never used steroids or anything to help him win. Players are constantly getting pain shots and pills to help them play. Remember, Favre was off alcohol and pain pills for the last 10 plus years of his career, when he broke the streaks, etc.

    So baseball had a steroids problem does that make Bonds and Clemens any less of a cheater? Favre got through that streak partially b/c he abused drugs so that he could play. And for those that think Favre's ironman streak isn't a part of his legacy then they are crazy...it's part of what made him that "hard nosed" performer, blue collar work ethic, blah, blah. Race definitely has something to do with the way he is received in the popular media, it just does. If you don't believe me you should have seen First Take yesterday when Skip Racist, I mean Bayless, asked the Two Live Stu's to speak for all black people on whether or not "they" loved Brett Favre. Their response was telling in that they recognized his greatness, but didn't necessarily enjoy the undue love Favre continued to get during his suck years. And yes Brett God Jesus Christ Mother Nature Favre did suck for a three year period.

    And when you pass as much as the packers had him passing, records like yards and touchdowns will happen, too. Many qb's who had as many attempts as him would be able to put up completion, yards, and td numbers like him.
