BTW, vicodin doesn't help you perform better like steriods, and nobody really cares about how many games he started.

Anyone who puts value in MVP awards puts too much faith in the Associated Press. Really, a bunch of journalists get to decide who the best player in a league is? It's a matter of opinion amongst these people, and no one should have to take someone's opinion as truth. It's often a popularity contest, and their precious "Brett" easily could've benefitted from that. There have been some glaring mistakes in MVP voting.
AskPearlJam: PearlJama101-guest says: Who's idea was it for Eddie to play banjo on "Soon Forget"?

Brett Favre is supposed to make a decision on whether or not his reign of terror is over in the near future. The sooner the better. Last year he kept his fans hostage with "will he or won't he" crap and subjected the rest of us to further Favre coverage shoved down our throats. It was unnecessary and it was annoying. We already have to put up with constant Favre crap from September to January, but last year we got the summer months to boot. And if this summer is the same...I have no idea what I'd be capable of.
What's so great anyway? The fact that he led a team to a Super Bowl by beating the infant Carolina Panthers, then outdueled Drew freakin' Bledsoe of all people in the big game? You know who else has quarterbacked Super Bowl Championship teams? Brad Johnson. Trent Dilfer. Ben Roethlisberger. Mark Rypien. Jeff Hostetler. Names that will ring throughout the ages...with the distinct sound of mediocrity. So don't give me the Favre is just a winner argument. Don't tell me that he gets it done when it counts, his record in the playoffs is just above .500. His records are a testament to the fact that he just won't go away and that he throws so much. His positive stats of td's, yards, and completions are extremely relative to his attempts and interceptions.
Oh, his durability. Great. He somehow never got hurt. Don't forget about this though. If they want to put asteriks next to home run records, they should put an asterik next to Brett Favre's consecutive game played streak. Why not? If steroids help you hit home runs, vicodin helps you play football when you're hurt. Plus, I've read conspiracy theories that he could've been suspended over the situation, but the NFL wanted to keep Brett's precious streak going. Anyway, potentially equally loathable Peyton "Goober" Manning has a shot at busting that streak.
How about the time that he helped out a similarly overhyped player...on another team. You remember, c'mon. When Mike Strahan was hunting down the most sacks in a season award, and good old Brett decided to just fall down when Strahan was near him? It's called cheating, the game, his fans, and his team. But no one seemed to care. It would be the same as a hockey goalie letting in a goal so some overrated media darling could have a scoring record. Acceptable? No.
Nobody in the media is allowed to say a negative thing about him. Everybody has to give him respect. So everytime there's a game or highlight show, they have to make obligatory comments about how he just keeps getting it done. By "it", they must mean force throws into coverage, throw picks, overthrow receivers, and when something goes well, jump up and down so people can say how much fun he's having. He's not a legend. He's a fabricated legend.
Enough ranting. Keep your junk clean.

I will respectfully honor the wishes of those who started the other Brett Favre thread (for no negativity), but I will start my own. Anyone else hate Brett Favre? I liked him back in the day, but when he started his whiny, diva-like primadona off season soap operas, I just lost it.
As for his play on the field, Brett was a slightly above-average quarterback who threw far too many interceptions. He isn't even the third best quarterback of the last two decades (Brady, Payton and Elway have him beat in that regard, and Roethlisberger is closing in as well.)
if you hate brett favre you hate america. and i'm ashamed you are from pittsburgh even saying this. surely you must have more football sense.

It's a double edged sword....take pain killers and play....or you don't take them and don't play (then he'd be called a wuss). And I'm pretty sure 104% of all players in all pro sports take pain killers.
On the field..... Look at the players he played with....he was surrounded by average players most of his career, and below average players for the end of his career. Can you name a single offensive player that Favre played with, that would even be considered for the Hall of Fame? And Reggie was the only defensive player that's HOF worthy.
Of course I hated him when he played the Seahawks....that's because he was so damm good!

On the other hand, those guys have something that only 30'ish other NFL QB's have ever recieved. That's pretty good company.
well so far the original poster has some guy from the chicago area that hates brett farve...go figure...hating brett farve is like hating, i don't know...santa claus
I'm not saying Brett was a bad quarterback, but he was nowhere close to the best QB's all time. In my original post, I said he was not as good as Payton, Brady or Elway in the past 20 years. I can't believe I forgot Montana and Aikman in that list as well.
Brett played tough, but he made way too many stupid mistakes to rank him near the top. And he had too many chances to win another Super Bowl.
I'll seperate that from his diva like behavior, which is why I don't like him.
As for Big Ben, as much as I hate the Steelers (and God knows I do), he is one of the most underrated players in the league today. I'd rather have a quarterback that takes the sack than one who throws as many picks as Brett did.
As for the MVP argument, he and Brady are tied if you count total number of league MVPs and Super Bowl MVPs together (3)

Notice how just about every Quarterback you named has had one if not more of the best receivers in the league, Favre has had some solid receivers through the years but never a Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison, Michael Irvin, etc. Your crazy is you dont consider him amongst the best quarterbacks of all time.

who has Favre had to catch the ball; Freeman, Rison, Wycheck, others?

Im a huge Bears fan and I do respect Brett Favre. He might be the best ever and he showed it to us twice a year. You are probably right....we will never have a qb half as good as favre. Just remember that you will need haver a defense, defensive player, or team half as good as the Bears are at there best. Packers will never touch the 85 Bears!!!

Okay I have a good Favre story that most of you would have never heard.
It was probably like '97-'98 but Favre was the halftime guest at a Milwaukee Wave game (indoor soccer). The show was that he had kids from the crowd on the field and he had them each run a route and catch a pass. One of the kids happened to be on my soccer team. He was probably about 12 years old but Favre threw him a long pass and my friend made a great diving catch.
Brett ran down the field to him with his arms up and put the kid on his shoulders and carried him around jumping around as excited as if he just won his second superbowl. I haven't talked to the kid in a while but I'm sure that was one of the highlights of his life.
