go for it.. i did a telethon once :)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I saw a card yesterday and it made me think of dunk ... cant recall the whole thing but it was a mans card about getting old and needing to touch your willy as much as possible !

anyway Al thats very cool , good for you, how much more traning will it take on top of your football stuff ?

Its gonna take a lot of time in the pool (maybe thats where the willy thing comes in ) and on the bike, my running is fine its only about a 3 mile run, a 12 mile cycle and 400m swim.

A girl in work did the same one last year so will get the lowdown on it but supposedly its swimming against the currents thats the worst (and scariest for me)

  • I would like to do something like that, but like you swimming is not a strong point for me.
Good look to you though. I think I will just stick to running for now.
    Astoria 20/04/06, Leeds 25/08/06, Prague 22/09/06, Wembley 18/06/07,
    Dusseldorf 21/06/07, Manchester 17/08/09, London 18/08/09, LA 06/10/09, LA 07/10/09.

Ain't gonna be any middle anymore.

I used to be a terrible swimmer but then I spent 4 to 6 hours a week in the swimming pool for 10 months and since then I'm a good swimmer and I love swimming!

edit: I did get professional training, though...
    THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

That's awesome! Good luck to you.

    I told my co-workers that I was doing a 10-miler in April. Now, I can't back down, eh? "So, how's the running . . . . "

No you defo can't back out now. You'd be surprised how easily you'll hit 10miles if you start training now. I reckon by March you'll be flying 10miles like you're downing a pint :D

good deal......i dislike running, but my biking/swimming is where i gain my time. do not go cheap on biking shorts and most importantly, make sure the shorts are black. you will understand when the time comes.

What's unfortunate is that I like to run in the evening, but the race is in the morning. Also, if I run in the evening I am energized for the evening so I can't go to sleep. However, waking up uber-early to run is a chore. On some level I'm looking forward to doing this. On another it's still self-induced work. Any motivational insight?

Thats fantastic news V, best of luck with it.

I have to admit, as much as I make excuses for not doing a workout (of whatever sort) there is "almost" nothing like the feeling you get after a good workout.

Sorry I forgot to book you for the stag ;)

Well they way I am about running, since my daughter came along, running in the morning isn't an option and by the time I get home from work in the evening I'm shattered but what I do now is go to the gym/run at lunchtime. I find that this is when I'm most able "mentally" to workout. I usually have my lunch at my desk later in the day and workout then, but I suppose its depending on what kind of work you do :D

Thanks hells, appreciate it but I've already roped my bro's girlfriend into teaching me, she's an instructor :D

...and lets be honest, we would have just made excuses and gone to the pub :D

Good luck Al. Triathlons are addicting. My husband and I have been doing them for the past two years -can't swim worth a damn. We keep saying we are going to take lessons, but haven't got around to it. I absolutely hate swimming laps in the pool! Yuck!

I did a tri last year, and let me tell you, you do not need to know how to swim "properly." What you need to know how to do is how to swim while simultaneously beating off the 100 other swimmers that are swimming into and over you. If it's open water, you need to breath "incorrectly" anyway and look straight ahead so you can stay going straight.

What a great way for you to get in shape! Have fun with it!

My good friend did an Iron Man for his 40th birthday....and he did it in a good time too! That is what you can work up to :p
