  • As a meal?

I bet you are a whole lot healthier now. Thin or slim? They are two different things.

well I was still in very good shape at the time because when I ate I ate super healthy and I was NUT in the work out area...not sure if I was "healthier" then or now...I definitely have a higher body fat ratio now...

but yeah I used to drink diet coke for "lunch" all the time, and when I was "on" diet coke I never needed any snacks at all through the day. I just never felt like eating anything so it was just easier to have a diet coke!

Would you also drink water, or just diet coke? If it was just dc, wouldn't your mouth dry out?

I also drank a gallon of water every day during this time.
  • I drink a ton if diet soda. Like 6-7 cans a day. Its so bad for me with all that sweetener I know, but water alone just can do it for me. I use splenda in coffee/tea. I think it tastes the best out of the fake sugars

Gray, I am telling you.....stop drinking that shit. They are linking all sorts of problems to the sweetner in diet soda!
Look it up yourself. I think even what Michael J Fox has, I forget the name, but stop drinking that shit! You will loose a lot of weight just from that.

Edit......Not that you need to loose weight, just saying. ;)

I thought everyone knew what inhiding looks like. Definitely not fat and definitely not a man. I'd put my life savings on it. ;)

But on the real, try switching out those Peppas with some coffee or espresso inhiding, that just ain't right.

Now I need to see a picture of her.

Ice tea with no sugar. I use all sort of flavored Tea and Green tea bags. Just add them to a pitcher of hot water and put in the fridge. Healthy and cheap! My entire family drinks tons of tea...hot and cold, no one adds sugar.

one of the very first ingredients in Sweet - N - Low or Equal , or Twin ,

people mistakenly take these as sugar "substitutes" when in reality they are only another option ( alltho alot less but still with sugar )

I'm 100% percent insulin dependent diabetic (I've been on insulin since I was 17 years old, that's 21 years.....do the math). I don't use real sugar at all (In my drinks) only diet coke and coffee with equal. These two things have NEVER raised my blood sugar. I have no choice but to use artificial sweeteners. From all these so-called studies done, I should have 3 eyes by now and an arm growing out of my head.

the thing is a lot of the studies are done on rats and mice, and people are a lot bigger than rats and mice. A lot of times there has to be a sort of multiplier added to the dosage needed to result in cancer and whatnot, and that doesn't always translate.

    timely topic.
a new study on artificial sweeteners has been all over the news recently...
it's controversial amongst the health community, but you can decide for yourself: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/02/11/health/webmd/main3817821.shtml

    long story, short:
they found that rats who were given artificial sweeteners overate and gained more weight than those given real sugar.

    why?
over time, the artificial sweeteners disrupted their bodies natural ability to accurately assess caloric intake. the rats overate to compensate and gained weight accordingly.

    i, myself, use Splenda.
but my hippie friends are convincing me to use stevia. i may.

That is kind of interesting. I've been using these types of sweeteners for 20+ years and over the last 4 years have put on a bit of weight. (a HUGE bit of weight)

I'm not much of a sugar-holic. I drink maybe one cup of diet pepsi that has splenda in it, per day, and 2 cups of tea with 2 tsps of sugar per cup, and that is basically all the sweets that I eat. Not really into cookies/cake, that sort of stuff. Full sugar soda is waaaay too sweet for me - only time I'll drink it is at shows when I need energy! I am 5'6" and 115 lbs. usually.

don't you think that if there was any truth to that or about any of the numerous "urban myths" about artifical sweeteners that nutrisionist would let their patients know this?

there's all kinds of myths and lies floating around the internet about the so-called "evils" of artifical sweetners on a peoples health, put out by companies that produce cane sugar and companies that make high-fructose corn syrup as well. it's really no different then the ones put out by the meat industries claiming how soy and soy products are "evil" to a person's health

Yes, I would think so. I don't go to a nutritionist, so I have no idea what they tell their patients. I do know, though, that since I gave up artificial sweeteners, my memory is clearer. I was a bit of a space-case there for a few years and that's not so anymore.
Also, I feel I need to mention that I didn't give up artificial sweeteners because I thought they were bad for me, but rather that I started working someplace that has no artificial sweeteners. It is a restaurant that only offers real sugar, no equal, splenda or nutra-sweet. They are "purists" as far as they are concerned. They focus on food and health.

seems that they can't be too concerned with health if they offer only sugar when you consider all those additional carbs and calories in it, not to mention alot of people that can't even have sugar. kinda makes you wonder if they're really being "purists" or they're merely being cheapskates?

    LOL. No, not cheapskates. :)
For those that can't have sugar, they can go without. I love when people ask me for a diet coke and I get to explain to them that, no, we don't have diet coke or any traditional sodas, for that matter.
It is the most successful restaurant in town. It is mostly organic and local. It is also the most expensive.
True, I work with a bunch of hippies, and no, I'm not one. But since I started working there, I have given up the microwave and artificial sweeteners.

I still drink it though. We're all gonna die anyway.
