to me the global warming thing is really freaky,
I was just talking about this with people from work,
it doesn't get as cold in the winter as it used
and it certainly doesn't snow as much

and someone I work with said he needed a winter coat on a visit to Jamaica (the island) last year!

I mean, it's weird. It doesn't seem right. If you have read the entire Bible and the parts about the plagues, it makes you wonder

What you said about your wife and your kids is esp. poignant to me.

I hope the world isn't coming to an end any time soon though, I'm not done yet! I want to have children.

Fox Mulder said the aliens are coming in 2012 though :P j/k

hey allie, you want snow? come on up to cny this winter. you can take all the effing snow you want back to nyc. just make sure you start with my driveway first. and if this winter is anything like the past 2 winters, you'll have to make daily trips to empty my driveway.

I agree, I see myelf surviving through alot of shit. I just really worry about my daughter. LOL, I never thought about this shit until I had her. Now I fucking dream about martial law in America and having to fight to stay alive to protect her. LOL
Hard to understand unless you have kids I guess.

I know this isn't environmental..but frankly the random violence in this world scares me. Hearing stories of innocent people getting murdered, raped or shot. It's sad.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.
  • Economic issues will surface before any geological situation imo.

The entire worlds currency is now fiat. Backed by the US dollar which used to be gold based. Now that the world reserve currency is fiat.....everything is.

All fiat currencies fail because idiots like in the Fed end up printing it like toilet paper, which devalues it. Exactly like what we have now.

You'll want to move your holdings outside of paper...as when the currency fails....it's really just that ...paper...

People don't take notice until their ass catches on fire....

Don't lose your head over it, but don't be clueless about it either.

wait and see...but don't leave it until the last minute to take a few of the easier steps.

btw...the bible angle....forget about it... it's a story book written by a bunch of mortals to control society at the time.

randomly, i had a dream linked to this last night.

Basically in the dream it was all over the news that other planets had been found, that had civilisations proven to have had the same developments/problems as ours.....

different eras, shifting continents, weather patterns shifting over billions of years, civilisations growing and collapsing...

as a guy who doesnt think about this stuff alot, it was a profound dream.
and it left me with a comfort in the knowledge of our insignificance in the grand scheme of things. Contributing to avoid it gives me even more comfort.

there will always be something shit happening no matter where you are at whatever time, and there will always be displays of human art, genius, love and awesomess wherever you may be too. live your life, make babies, protect them, and love whoever and whatever you can. including the planet.

    ahh, that felt good

im not saying there are not alarming trends in weather patterns or that life is peachy keen. but we're hardly on the brink of some sort of biblical end times. we're just reaping what we've sown... an exploded population paying the price for its excess.

no point in worrying about what we cant control... the damage we do to the environment can still be reduced though to hopefully slow the process... and wars can be avoided in many instances

dont lose any sleep over it though... just prepare your heart and the sofabed for the coming of christ :p

i haven't read the whole thing, but i wanted to say something to the people that are arguing that things like that have happened since the world exists.

    of course, this is true.
but the problem is that the effects are much more horrifiying these days. if a flood came a couple of hundreds of years ago, a small town would be destroyed and that was it. nowadays millions of people could be in danger.

there have been wars forever, that's true, but in the past they had to fight man against man and because of that the damages were not as catastrophal. nowadays if a nation wants to start a war: just send over some planes with bombs and destroy a country that hundreds of years ago you would not even be able to reach.

and because of that, it's so much more easy that the world falls apart now than it has been in the past. to push one small button could literally destroy the whole planet. that's the scary thing. people don't nececcarily need to look their victims in they eye and that hasn't helped the fate of the world at all.

if the earth's climate gets warmer just a few degress, people from hot areas would have to move to survive. they would come to the colder areas and the people there probably wouldn't be to happy about the flood of people. most likely end product: war.

maybe i'm a pessimist, but with all that in mind (and i have only mentioned a few things), i don't see a good future for the world.

Yeah, it's super scary. One of the biggest reasons I've chosen to not have children. I can't justify bringing a wee one into this crazy world. My how things have changed even since I grew up (I'm 30!). It's scary, life is changing so fast. We need to wake up, become more proactive, get more involved in the things going on around us, become more vocal, PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT!!!!

It's amazing that we're finally noticing the changes. I mean, this has been coming for a while. But it's "easy" to just ignore it and continue with our own lives and not worry. It's good to notice it, become aware of what's going on around us!

I worry, of course I do. Everyone with a heart and a mind worries. With 4 children, I worry about their future..their kids future etc. With 3 of the 4 being boys, I worry even more. What kind of a violent world are they going to go out into?
All I can do is try to equip them with the tools to survive and grow. Compassion, empathy and a sense of conscense (sp?) I want them to grow into good adults, but sometimes I wonder why I bother.

We can make the small changes in our life ourselves, and vote for the people who can make the big changes for us. It may seem we're fighting a losing battle, but if we don't, then hope is lost. And without hope, a future seems even bleaker than it is now.

i see plenty of good for the world's future. what looks less promising is the future of overpopulated humanity. we have too many people, period. and planes haven't made much difference. the death rates in world war I were far far more drastic and catastrophic than any war since, that includes ww2. but yes, eventually, there's going to be some sreious blow out.

as to natural disasters, did you ever think that the real catastrophe is not how many humans can be in danger from them now, but the damage those humans are doing to the world around them in terms of depleting its resources? this is nature's checks and balances. we've overstepped ourselves, and we're going to pay the price.

    they "seem bigger"?

they ARE bigger...and not just because the loss of human life.

    they are more frequent.

oh, and how do you know that we aren't on the brink of some sort of biblical end times?

again, you have checked this data against the many records we have of storms, flooding, weather pattern shifts, and earthquakes in 10,000 bc? i didn't think so.

and i know because the bible is a book of myths, and jesus isn't going to come riding in on a white horse to do battle with the anti-christ any more than poseidon has been sitting in the pacific causing all the weather problems of which you speak.

no i haven't...i don't need to...there are people that are able to do that today.

then please, point me to these scientists who say the world is ending and things are worse now than they have ever been at any point over this planet's 4 billion year history? because i have heard nothing about this and am quite curious.

it is really quite simple. you look at other mythologies and religions and it is not hard to tell the bible is no different. fantastical creation myth, epic stories of heroes and men being manipulated and aided by the gods, magical happenings everywhere, sex and infidelity leading to tragedies. it's good stuff. you get to the new testament, and it's all written 30 years after the death of its main character from memory and legend. ever play telephone? think of how those tales come out 30 years later. hell, even when i tell stories, the keg stands i did in college have become almost miraculous in their record-setting. same phenomenon. we've got legends about abe linocln never telling a lie and washington with his cherry tree or whatever, and we all smile about how they are fun little tall tales about our heritage. the bible is the same. there's not one shred of evidence to indicate it is anything else. until i see such evidence, i'm going with the most logical explanation.

which is that this isn't the apocalypse, humans are overpopulated, and any natural disaster or climate change is the earth's way of controlling a pest problem.
