NBA Ref Scandal

In light of Tim Donaghy’s revelation that NBA referees have officiated past games in “the best interest of the league”, I can’t say I’m shocked, but I can say I’m enraged. I’m enraged to the point that I will no longer follow professional basketball (which is very tough as I love the game).
As a fan of a small market team, there were always the conspiracy theories that officiating would benefit the more popular and profitable large market teams. But in the end, I would just blame it on the referee being incompetent.
Many fans (including myself) have invested time, money, and a deep sense of care in the hopes that one day their team might pull off a championship run. How can I know that my team (Indiana Pacers) was not affected by biased officiating against large market teams (i.e. Chicago, New York, LA) during their runs in the 90’s? How can fans in Houston, Phoenix, and Sacramento invest any more time and money in the league? Even the large market teams may have been affected because a series was drawn out to increase ratings and profits.
I know Donaghy has motive but it still stings. And deep down inside, I fear what he say is the truth.

If you watched game 6 of that series, I don't know how you could come to any other conclusion. Seriously, the worst officiated game I have ever seen in all of my life in all of professional sports...

I agree. I remember watching it live on TV and how mad I got, not even being a fan of the Kings. I can’t imagine how Kings fans felt that night.
I know they didn't have to listen to Ralp, but the writing has been on the wall for a while now and the NBA ignored it.

Kings fans are degenerates anyway.
Seriously, though, refs "equalizing" series in the playoffs has been talked about for decades. Any team that has ever gone to the playoffs has both benefitted from and been negatively impacted by it. This series is a good example. Game 2 was ridiculous because the NBA wanted the Celtics to win both games at home. Game 3 was better officiated, and now Celtics fans are complaining. The Celtics are the media favorites right now. They are even being painted as the underdogs, which is laughable. 66 wins during the year, home court advantage, a 2-0 season sweep of teh Lakers, and they are the underdogs!
This ref has admitted to taking bribes from bookies and the mob, hasn't he? You have to take what he says with a grain of salt, but equalizing games has always been around. Not just in the 2 series he alleges -- 2002 and 2005.

You thought 911 was a joke the NBA is a joke. Who knows what goes on behind close doors.

Honestly, whoever wins this series, the NBA does not care. But I am sure they want it to go to 6 or 7 drama-filed games. It's almost inevitable.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
Anyone who has watched their fair share of NBA playoffs series knows that there are tendencies: If the home team takes 2, they equalize it in game 3, and so on. But that works for every team that is good enough to get home court advantage.
I got a real bad taste in my mouth when the media started to paint the Lakers as the favorites before this series started.
Well, I admit I am biased in favor of the Lakers, but generally it is good that the better team should win the series, right?
I never realized how many people hate the Lakers. I understand how Yankees fans feel now.
The refs are critically incompetent. That's what made Donaghy able to hide his goings on. It looked like just another bad ref.
That's actually a good point. This equalizing crap that they have done for years gave this guy the ability to pull this off for a while at least.
