  • serious? its a stupid building! who cares that aliens are attacking it. its like those tower became some sacred thing. that firefighter dude said it himself, "Aliens are not going to attack the World Trade Center. That makes no sense at all," doesnt stop him from crying about it. your brother died and its sad, but this is a game, maybe you need to see a therapist if this is such a big deal.

no shit. some of these people, i dont know.

it's like we need to pretend they never even existed, lest someone see a picture of them and get upset. unless, of course, the picture comes with a soft light shining on it against a background of stars and stripes with toby keith singing 'god bless america' in an endless loop to pay proper tribute right?

    That's the american way.

I just MENTIONED something another person said about 9/11 in a thread here once and I got a deluge of angry response from americans, some of whom I actually get on very well with here saying stuff like "I'm really disappointed in you Jamie". I just mentioned what someone else had said :o I didn't even agree with it.

The only way to get past something is to come to terms and be at peace with it. People need to lighten up. If you can't laugh at a terrible part of the past, it owns you.

It was a thread about art, so I guess it's relevant here since this WTC Invaders game is supposed to be an art exhibit. In the thread I mentioned, someone asked sarcastically if serial killing could be considered art and I mentioned the german avant-garde composer Karlheinz Stockhausen who, when asked how he felt about his describing his music as showing the beauty of the human spirit in the wake of what humans had done on 9/11, replied that, in a way, the 9/11 attacks were the greatest work of art ever conceived by humans. He stated that to compose an event so painstakingly, and to perform it with such passion, and to be dedicated to it enough that one would die for it, his compositions could never hope to match that. He never actually justified the attacks, he just said that aesthetically, for achieving what it set out to do, showing the world what the terrorists were willing to do, and showing those images of incredible power across news stations around the globe, nothing a human being could ever do would top it.

I mentioned this and caught a STORM of shit from fellow jammers, although they relented when I pointed out that I hadn't personally said this :)

As for your super-lame puritans, touche, although I'm not taking personal blame. I'm probably descended from vikings anyway and they're hedonistic bastards :p

i guess i'm alone here in that i hate toby keith, i'm not a puritan, but i still find this distasteful. it's a cheap ploy for attention.

I think this post is even more distasteful than the game itself.

There's nothing wrong with finding it distasteful, I'm sure you have your reasons, it's just when people get out the pitchforks without even having a valid reason beyond "oh shit, they mentioned 9/11, those bastards" that it becomes silly.

I wouldn't go up to NYPJ1 and tell him he's wrong to be sensitive about it, he lost a lot of friends that day and if I said that, I'd expect him to headbutt me but when some person who doesn't even know the intent behind something says "a game with aliens and the world trade center? this is sick" without explaining WHY it's sick, it just becomes another part of a greater hysteria.

Agreed. I haven't finished composing my thoughts on this but as someone who walked out of the building and attended over 20 funerals, needless to say I am bothered.

I could not care less about an art exhibit since the artist was looking for a rise, like the jesus and feces picture, but the comments on here are very sad.

that is precisely it. and like i said, it's a cheap shot. harder to make art that doesn't have to ride on the back of a tragedy. sure, it's art....come cheap.

jeremy i'm not pulling out any pitchforks, people are entitled to their opinions, of course. by that same token, for people to say that it's just a game and get over it and what's the big deal...goes from having an opinion to just being plain insensitive.

that's my thought anyway. disheartening to see people be so cavalier about it, i guess if enough time passes people get more nonchalant. still sad anyway.

I wasn't saying that you personally were getting out any pitchforks, I was saying that plenty of people do over this stuff. I don't see any reason why being "cavalier" about it, which I don't necessarily think anyone is being by the way, should be disheartening though. There's a difference between forgetting and moving on. Forgetting about it would be sad but getting to a point where people don't have to take everything as a personal attack on their tragic past would be a healthy thing, I think.

i agree that people shouldn't be persecuted for having an opinion, unpopular or otherwise. and folks definitely should be able to have rational discussions about things! this is why i never visit the MT for example, sounds like a bunch of arguing morons from what i've heard lol

being dismissive of people getting upset over this just seems cavalier to me. and i find it disheartening because it *is* dismissive. for some people it's still too soon, and regardless of what your own personal opinion is on it, that should still be respected. i guess that is what bothers me about the art project, and some of the comments here, they strike me as disrespectful.

*edit* cuz i forgot some words and mispelled, i need more coffee :o

But it's okay to make realistic war video games though right? I don't get it. Why are people offended? Because the tragedy happened to the US and not someplace else?
  • since some people think im being insensitive because of 'stupid buildings' how many people bought any of those medal of honor or any other ww2 video games. how many people died on d-day....but thats ok cause why, cause its sold at wal-mart? yet aliens attacking a building is offensive? what about gta and the related gang violence? tons of people are killed by gang related violence every year, but gta is ok too?

if this game had people jumping out of the burning towers and you had to zap them with your ufo lasers before they hit the sidewalk, id say thats probably being insensitive.

that composer that call 9-11 a work off art has to be border-line insane, if thats the case than hitler made a peice of art greater than anything van gogh painted.

I know you were not speaking too me in general, but I don't buy ANYTHING at walmart! Secondly, I don't think the WTC buildings were stupid, but I probably will play the game if someone brought it over! I will play any video game..:)

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

    I can actually believe that.

In fact, Lars Ulrich is actually worse than atomic warfare.

Nobody here was in WW2 but some people were at or were deeply effected by what happened at the TWTC. There's a big difference. Personally i just think it was stupid to have aliens attack TWTC, should have been at the White House :D

I was refering to modern games such as Call of Duty and Medal of Honor which very much are part of our lives. Better yet, some of them make history fun!

The Aliens v. WTC idea is retarded, but it's also retarded to be offended by it and not any of the above mentioned.
