A funny story....a buddy of mine had 4 kids, and scheduled a vasectomy. The day of the procedure, his wife found out she was pregnant with number 5.

Less than a month for me now before the snip. I'm thinking about wearing my .44 to the operation in hopes that it convinces him to do the best job possible and give me lots of pain killer.

WTF????? Are you kidding me? That is ridculous. I took my doggy Jasper in to get fixed and they put him to sleep before they sliced his unit. So let me get this straight, dogs are knocked out during this procedure but humans arent?

Congrats man. Got one 5 years ago and I've never regretted it. No more birth control pills for the wife, no more worrying if she is late or not. Takes all the guesswork out of it.

I have no kids but hope to some day and I was never against this procedure until this thread. I would demand to be knocked out personally because:
a) I dont want to have to watch some doctor stick a needle into my johnson
b) I wouldnt want to see the staff watch me cry.
c) I wouldnt want to have dreams later down the line aboot the procedure
and d) I cant think of one but its coming to me....

i stand by my statment. many, many reasons i am happy with my husband. the fact that he did this with no hesitation makes just one more. a biggie!


btw - one CAN be knocked out for the procedure. it is normally performed under a local anestheic b/c it is not deemed 'necessary' for the aptient to be under general anesthetic. it is an option which of course the patient would bear the extra expense. i think it all depends on the patient.


they HAVE to knock out a male dog simply b/c you can't TELL a dog to be still and actually expect him to be. a man you can, well most i guess.....

WAY more 'intimate' details people have shared on here. it's a simple medical procedure. people discuss ALL sorts of medical procedures, sexual information, emotional issues, etc. this ain't nutthin'....:p i've read far more other topics that i would deem TMI. just sayin'.

if you want to get knocked out with general anesthesia, i would think not. however, you'd be knocked out...so no worries then eh? if you just go for the local, perhaps. hell, it might be a wise idea!


the fact that you never, never have to worry about pregnancy again, after one quick office visit = priceless. even if knocked out, still WAy less invasive than the female alternative, which requires at a minimum one overnight hospital stay.

I remember my doctor telling me "You have to be ABSOLUTELY sure you do not wan't to have any more kids. Because there is no going back. Those billboards that advertise vasectomy reversal? BS."

It was a lot to think about. Something could happen and you may remarry some day. You could lose a kid. If was a pretty heavy decision.
