I FEEL FOR YOU.
I work in a video store / post office outlet....
We recently got new owners - er, like a year ago or so....
I've seen a strange influx of products being sold in here, from Jesus banners to religious greeting cards to books about how to cope with life through God...
it's a family run business so lots of people think i'm the daughter and my friend is the son... (even though he's Phillipino i'm half Japanese and our bosses are Indian...??) so lots of people think i'm a bible thumper - which shouldnt bug me but it kinda does.
It bugs me, though it shouldn't... of course its not as bad as you because my boss is a very, very nice man and very giving... just being surrounded by Jesus is annoying sometimes (and its not like the banners are even aesthetically pleasing, oh god... so horrible)
The worst is when they start pushing it on you though, like the building manager (VERY nice guy but) is a born again, and he always tries to get me to watch these movies on christian-views of things, like an astronomy "documentary" from the Creation side of things...
Anyways, i feel for you. I think I would NOT be able to keep my mouth shut - of course that would depend on how easilly i could find a different job...
I've thought about this most of the evening.
The thing is, i have a really good job. I do next to nothing and get paid pretty sweet. Much like you, i kind of just started noticing jesus stuff. I didn't realize how "godly" he was until a few months after i was hired. I actually started to look around his office. There's all kinds of WWJD stuff and bible scriptures under pictures...and he gets a monthly magazine called Victory, i think. It's all bible-esque and jesus-ish.
I'll just zip it for now. Word around the place is that sooner or later he'll invite me to church..to try and recruit me, i assume. That's when i'll politely tell him that i won't attend unless my gay friends are welcome there as well.
I told my husband tonight, i have half a mind to invite every queen i know to the office on Monday for the most ~fabulous~ lunch my boss has ever seen.
Just be glad it's your boss and not a family member or girlfriend/boyfriend. That makes it much more difficult.
Very true!
My very first job in retail, some bitch was nasty to me and made me cry. My boss was a sweetheart and tore this woman a new one. She then looked at me and said, "Just thank god you don't have to live with someone like that."
First step, waste company time on favorite band message board.
Step two, go home and drink.
I've applied this concept for 6 1/2 years and it seems to work.
I'm holding a workshop tomorrow between 1:45pm and 1:46pm to discuss this theory in detail. RSVP if interested.

Is that Eastern or Central Time????
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.
I'm sitting at my desk, listening to my boss talk to his friend/pastor about how gay marriage was banned in the US and how is "such an awesome thing".
It irks the fuck out of me how he thinks he's such an upstanding man. It really, physically hurts to bite my tongue. KILLS ME.
I've never been one to keep my mouth shut or back down from someone. How can i keep my job and keep my opinions to myself?
If you really want to keep your job, don't talk politics with him....EVER. And if he tries to do so with you, tell him you have differing views and that you don't want to get into it. It's perfectly acceptable, and preferred, to stay away from such topics in the workplace.
If this changes your opinion of him to the point that you truly no longer respect him, then maybe it's best to start looking around. It is really hard to take direction from someone you discover is an asshole.

I have Obama stickers on the back of my car so i'm pretty sure he knows either me, my husband or both of us are quite liberal.
Not only have i discovered he's an asshole but he's stupid. lol I won't get into it but he's painfully, mind blistering, dumb.
I've only got another couple months left and i'll be going on maternity leave so i think i might just tune out his hatred for the neighbours he claims to love for a little while.

First of all he's a pastor, so he's gonna think that gay marriage being banned is "such an awesome thing". Second he's right. Third you dont have to agree with him to work with him. My old boss was a hunting big mouth republican and was full of shit. I found something we could agree on, GreenDay and Pearl Jam.
You can't and you shouldn't. Go find a new job. Only you can make yourself happy.
what does having a boss you don't respect have to do with your own personal happiness?
seriously, i think it's BS to say 'you can't and you shouldn't'....and to find a new job? yea, b/c well-paying, secure positions are just oh-so-plentiful in this economy. hey, i am all for personal beliefs and speaking your mind...but there is a time and a place, and a high-and-mighty attitude does not get one far in this life, period.
obviously the boss isn't even involving the OP in his BS, he's doing so in his office, etc. it's HIS business. and for such things in any case, imo, best to keep your personal/professional life seperate. far easier. i honestly could not give a shit what my bosses thnk/do, as long as they treat me fairly, pay me well and treat me as an individual with respect.

Come is a verb"
