How do you work for someone you can't respect?

I'm sitting at my desk, listening to my boss talk to his friend/pastor about how gay marriage was banned in the US and how is "such an awesome thing".

It irks the fuck out of me how he thinks he's such an upstanding man. It really, physically hurts to bite my tongue. KILLS ME.

I've never been one to keep my mouth shut or back down from someone. How can i keep my job and keep my opinions to myself?

Get your mind on something else. Like...are you one of those Newfs that don't like to be called Newfie?

You should focus on your responsibilities as an employee...then when he is not looking, walk over and swiftly sucker punch him in the esophagus..
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
    and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
    god I'm very, very frightening
    and I'll overdo it'

    exactly.
i keep my personal views outside of my office environment, and i choose to ignore others' sharing their own beliefs as well. obviously, colleagues i am closer with we may discuss and debate, but quite honestly.....especially for superiors, i far prefer not getting into such discussions. if it ebver came up, i would politely decline such conversations. i've worked for a few people i did not respect for a few reasons, but i compartmentalize. my own well-being, my making a living supercedes caring about what some boss may think of world events, religious views, etc.

    bottomline consider this:

which is more important to you - expressing your pov to someone you clearly have no respect, or keeping yourself employed? it really IS that simple. you are not selling-out, you are making an informed choice of who to share your pov with. wise.
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

First step, waste company time on favorite band message board.

Step two, go home and drink.

I've applied this concept for 6 1/2 years and it seems to work.

I'm holding a workshop tomorrow between 1:45pm and 1:46pm to discuss this theory in detail. RSVP if interested.

I work in an office building. His pastor/friend guy comes by every now and then to pray with him.

That's a tough one, especially when it's your boss  does your boss drink coffee? Maybe you can put some laxatives in it.. That's revenge that would be fun and only you would know.. Just a thought :)

were you engaged to the same sex? why does it bother you that they think it's awesome? I'm not sure how I feel about it, actually.

I'm trying. I've never been in this situation before and it's really strange. He's super nice to me...but a dick in general, if that makes sense.
