I think the Packers not going after Randy Moss might have been the last straw. I read that Brett wanted the team to go after him, but he just re-signed w/ the Pats.

    Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! :( :( :(

First the puppy off the cliff, and now this!?! I need to take a sick day.

I'm one of the biggest Packers fans and have been to a few games out there. He's what got me into football in the first place. It's been a crazy journey watching all of the highs and lows over the years. From his wild early years, maturity to win the Super Bowl and return the next year, overcoming addiction and numerous roster turnover to continually lead the Pack to the playoffs, watching him play the game of his life the day after his father died to then bringing the Pack back from a 4-12 season to the NFC championship game all the while breaking every record in the book. THE iron man of all sports.

    We'll miss you Brett. :(

Well there goes my trip I was planning for Lambeau next season. I didn't think there was any way he wasn't coming back after how well the Packers did last year.

Hey if the Pack were smart they would do a pre-game celebration that day for him...kind of like a 'Brett Favre' day, just to get his ass up there.
I love to turn you on

Crazy. Growing up with this guy being a quarterback now he's retired. I remember staying up alone when I was young watching him scramble for that touchdown in the Super Bowl, wearing a Favre jersey to school and everyone hating me [since everyone was a Lion's fan.] Then like someone posted that emotional game he had against Oakland. Insane.

Got one too; was at the Giants game and glad I was at his last game, but it's a shame the outcome wasn't different. I have tears right now; this is a sad day. The only true hero left in sports is gone.

I'm sad to see him go but am kind of glad to see him go out when he still had some gas in the tank. Of course his last game wasn't his best but he could still go out there and play the game at a high level. He will be missed.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I am just so fuckin thrilled I got to see him in person one last time last year... Packers vs Broncos, MNF... In case you forgot, he threw a BOMB in overtime to win the game...
that was the last time I will ever see Mr. Favre throw a football in person.
  • PJ_SalukiPJ_Saluki Posts: 1,006
I'm just glad the Steelers didn't have to face him twice a season. Favre was the ultimate "gamer." His consecutive game streak was simply amazing. I can't imagine what it must've been like for him to get out of bed some mornings. While the touchdown and career yards mark really stick out, the No. 1 reason he goes down as one of the best QBs of all time is his interceptions record. The NFL is so tough, only a great one would get a chance to throw all those picks. It's a sad day for Packers fans, but everybody else in the NFC North is breathing a sigh of relief.

Favre is such a class-act. Plays the game like a kid, and you could always tell how much he enjoyed it. Never seemed to get really rattled and he is one of the ultimate winners of any sport.
Winners make the game fun. Favre, Brady, Montana, Namath....all winners.
As a fan of football, he will be missed.

Oh, I forgot to mention that breaking this story confirms that FOX's Jay Glazer is the best NFL reporter in the business. First the "Spygate" tapes, now Favre's retirement before anybody else had it. Too bad Glazer works for Rupert Murdoch.

Too bad. I wanted to see the Bears pound on Brett for one more year. :D

I actually thought he'd come back next year, or want to go to another team for a year or two.

Oh well, at least he's going out while he's still good.
  • edpearsonedpearson Posts: 331
I thought he'd be back for at least one more season. After that sensational season they had last year (13-3???) and nearly getting to the Superbowl. The Packers are a young team and are on the rise, especially with a season like the last one under their belts. I was sure he'd retire after the '06-'07 season because they were horrible. I'll be a optimist on this one and I'll believe it when I see the 2008-09 Packers take the field this September. Some players actually retire only to come back (Junior Seau, Vinny Testeverde, to name a few). He had a great career and was a joy to watch. I'm glad I got to see him play in person against my Eagles (the Packers lost on a botched FG attempt at the end of the game -- woohoo!!!).
    Rock on!
    ~Edward
