Yeah, no poverty or homeless in Texas. Nice try. Wasn't the trailer park invented in Texas?
a lot of colorado folks always have some shit against texans...not sure why. jealousy i guess....i'm jealous of the sweet as mountains and trout fishing yall have though. but dont talk shit about my state.
anyways yeah there's always good music going on in houston...in someways it has a new orleans flavor to it...there's a lot of good food. dont be me wrong its no NO but its still a cool town. check out this place called Mission Burrito...i think the one i've been to is in West U. the rockets are fun, the astros are fun...i havnt seen the texans yet but i've been to reliant. i'm a huge U of H fan bc my dad played there in the 70s so i went to the Texas Bowl this yr. there's just as much to do in houston as there is in any other big city. except theres about 37 downtowns.
all these burning battlefields are now behind us, life has brought us here together to remind us, that love will rise above it all and just keep growin, life keeps flowing and every moment starts right here with us

Hey I lived in Dallas for 18 months and used to go to Houston on business monthly. Sorry, but you should move. Austin is a cool place, Big D and Houston, not so cool. There's a lot of good bars and restaurants but I suppose that's because there's nothing else to do. Flat, ugly and it's 100 degrees from May to September. No thanks. That's why I got the F out of there.

I've read through some of the other posts and most of what I'd say about Houston has already been said.
1) It's fucking hot. The summers are absolute hell. The winters are mild though, on the plus side.
2) We love to eat. We have some of the best restaurants you'd ever want to eat at. And just about any type of food imaginable is available here. Houston is truly a multicultural city. I'd bet we have more Asians, of all types, than any US city. And Africans, and Latinos, etc. etc. But I'll have to give the nod to KC for the best barbeque. I'm possibly a little biased since it's my hometown, but it really is.
3) We got the rodeo y'all!
4) It's a hub for Continental Airlines, so there are a lot of non-stop flight destinations all over the world, when you want to get away.
5) Affordable housing. This is a big one. You just might have to live an hour or more drive from your office, which sucks.
6) Uh, did I mention the rodeo?
7) We're less than an hour from the beach (Galveston). Which isn't saying much, cause Galveston beach is pretty shitty, but hey, if you close your eyes when you're on the sand you can hear the gulls and the waves and pretend you're just about anywhere.
8) The museum district/Hermann Park area is my favorite place to waste away a day here. We're not known for our green spaces in Houston, but we have an outdoor ampitheater for many plays and musicals in the summer months, a beautiful rose garden, a great zoo, and fantastic Japanese garden area, a reflecting, pond - what's not to like.
9) Huge job market. One should never have a hard time finding a job in Houston, short of being psychotic or a certified moron.
10) West U/ Rice Village area. If I had the money, this is where I'd live. Walking around the Village makes you think you're not in the fourth biggest city in the US but a cute little university town. I love it. So many cool little shops and restaurants, great landscaping, young people still full of hopes and dreams. And I love the church bells on Saturday nights. There's something so soothing to me about church bells, I can't quite place it.
when was Houston given back to Mexico? I hope I dont get deported back to America, i like my job.
But anyway, Everybody seems nice enough here (except that busboy that stole my phone), and thats a big requirement, over culture. I've heard about the museum district, I'll have to check that out.

Yeah I grew up there - that's about right. No baseball, no music, no clubs. Its a pretty small town.
Okay, seriously what do you want to do? Most bands will go to Houston on their tour, there's symphony, ballet, opera, good shopping, museums, good restaurants - its a major city. That church of Joel Osteen? that place by I-59 used to be called The Summit, and I saw Springseen and Bob Dylan in there. Saw Patti Smith on the UofH campus, Queen at the Music Hall, which is now destroyed. Its a city. Go play and have fun.

Yes that is the area I grew up in, and before we moved there, it was the South Blvd area. Beautiful areas of town. I used to bike all over there.
