I think we're about the same age so I can immagine.
What's up with her voice? She's got one of the most God awful singing voices I've ever heard. She sounds like someone has stuck a couple of pencils up both nostrils and has some kind of problem where she can't open or close her jaw properly. How come no one noticed?

In general, the eighties were awful until about 1987. British Indie music wasn't too shabby, post-Smiths (whom I always hated).

It occurred to me, that the 1980s were the only years in which Bjork was cool:

I saw Tiffany in 2002 play a free concert at the Quad at Penn for Spring Fling at 11 am on a Saturday morning. She was doing a college tour to try and get young people into her new album. She was playing Penn to open up the daylong series of concerts and then heading to Villanova to perform there later that afteroon. I'll never forget how surreal the scene was. About 2,000 college kids shrooming their brains out or drunk off their rockers yelling and booing at her for not playing I Think We're Alone Now and whatever her other hit was and playing her new music off her new album instead. Then she finally encored with it and people were crowd surfing to it. It was just one of the weirdest things I have ever seen.

The saddest part was on the E! True Hollywood story, they show scenes from that concert on it as showing how she's trying to make a comeback and if that was one of the "positive" shows - I can only imagine the train wreck shows.

having been born in '77, I remember from about 85 on pretty well.....some of my favorite things? My collection of Garbage Pain Kids (which I still have) and Transformers. Musically, I have a sister a couple of years older than me who FORCED me to listen to Purple Rain and Thriller over, and over, and over, and over......

I know.........(and sort of agree). Prince is a good musician who has a good sense for coming up with good music. I liked it a lot as well. It was cool when he played the Superbowl....good for him........

Yep, I agree. I'm not a Prince fan either, but I do love that album.

I heard some great Prince stories back in my bartending days that I can't remember right now but he had some crazy parties back in the day. The father of one of the bouncers at my old bar was a nationally ranked arm wrestler (think Stallone in "Over the Top.") and in the 80's was part of Prince's security detail.
