The last person to win the Triple Crown was Yaz and in the NL it hasn't happened since the 30's.

I think he means by trifecta - the third straight MVP award by a Phillie after Howard and Rollins the last 2 years.

    MVP MVP MVP

    Games 59 AB 225 R 48 H 72 2B 16 3B 1 HR 21 RBI 52 BB 27 SO 34 BA .320

    Over the last 6
    AB 21 R 8 H 9 2B 1 HR 5 RBI 10 BB 5 SO 2 BA .429

Look like MVP numbers to me. 11th in BA, 2nd in RBI, 2nd in Runs and 1st in HR.

hes been good..I dont wan to take anything away from him....but he hasnt done crap to compare with Lance Berkman...the NL player of the month who just hit .471 in May with 9 HR and 35 RBI

and as far as numbers go Berkman is in the top 5 of every major offensive category

More HRs, more runs, more RBIs, better defensively.... I would say he's done just fine to compare with Berkman. Certainly Berkman has a better average, but that's because Chase did have a 3 week slump, and he still has better run-producing numbers than Berkman.

no need to knock either player- they have both been great. one thing Utley has going for him is the Phils are a better team than the Astros. right now the Phils and the Cubs look like the head of the class of the NL. Chase is such a joy to watch. Plays the game the right way and has a beautifully majestic swing.

last I checked Lance Berkman had only ONE error

    Utley has 6 already.

both players are great...Im just not going to say Utley is a shoo in this early in the game...thats the only reason I mention Berkman...if you were to give it to one person right now..Utley would get the nod IMO only cause their record is better....but Berkman has done more for his team IMO, and to me that should stand out more, even though we all know thats not how others look at it..and as far as his(Utley) numbers not comparing earlier because of a slump...lets just say Berkman is slumping so by your standards we shouldnt even be having this conversation, right?

I think if you look into Utley's errors, most if not all can be attributed to the construction cone at first base, Ryan Howard, who at times cannot catch a ball thrown directly into his glove.

We'll see by the end of the year

Hopefully Utley doesn't get hurt this year

If he stays healthy we may see new records across the board for a 2nd Baseman

if Ryan howard drops a thrown by Utley thats thrown into his glove....the error would be on HOWARD...not Chase Utley(quit trying to make excuses)......have you ever played baseball????

look aruging about this is silly....lets wait and see later on in the season and if Utley deserves it....Ill gladly say he does...right now he doesnt, and awarding him the MVP is futile at this point when we arent even 1/2 through the season

I agree that arguing at this point is futile. Both Utley and Berkman have had a great first 2 months of the season.

Given the fact that they play 2 different positions makes the defensive comparison moot.

However, I do like the odds for Chase to make it 3 in a row for NL MVP. :)

not making an excuses just pointing out how plays are called. Yes I've played baseball and yes if Howard drops the ball, its his error, but if he doesn't stretch or move to make a play, then the error goes to the thrower not Howard and that has happened on more than one occassion this season to a few of the Phils fielders.

maybe you should get Lance Berkman to play 1st! LOL

Utley is one of my favorite players. Right now I would say it's Berkman in the lead though. His numbers are absolutely disgusting right now. Then Utley, Chipper, and probably Pujols trailing in contention.

In the AL its all about Josh Hamilton right now. He's the very early clear cut favorite.

theres a really good story bout him in the new Sports Illustrated

who would have thought he would be playing like this after falling so deep into drugs and getting kicked out of the league?

Yeah, it's been a big story down here because he's from Raleigh. I was coaching middle school when Hamilton was in High School. The kids on the team would come to practice making a big deal about how they had gone to see Josh Hamilton play. He's an incredibly gifted athlete and it was obvious even then that he could become a star in the big leagues. I hope he can stay on the right path.

loved it - it's funny because Chase is pretty much the most clean cut player out there and he gets caught saying fuck you to NY fans - awesome.
