Tea leaves generally have more caffeine than coffee beans. However, when brewed into a beverage, coffee has more caffeine than tea. Depending on the type of coffee bean or tea leaf, both coffee and tea can have more caffeine than a same serving size of Coca-Cola.

If you've been drinking tea that has caffeine, I would say you are not going through caffeine withdrawel. I would think it's more to do with the sugar quantities in soft drinks than in tea/coffee.

I haven't had any sodas in the past week or so. But I do normally drink iced tea starting at 10:00am or so. I sweeten my tea with Splenda, so it's not a sugar problem.

All I know is that it hurts, and this Advil is not helping. :(

I drink so much caffeine, its horrible. I get a splitting headache if I make it to the afternoon without any.. I need to break the habit. I'm trying to get myself down to just a little bit.. ugh!

I get the feeling that this 'caffeine addiction'....is a lot of bull, sorry, but I do. Seems people like to believe it, maybe I'm wrong cos it doesn't affect me, not keep me awake or make me hyper, or any of that stuff. I'd suggest it's maybe something else in peoples diets, or maybe just daily stresses that do the work....and caffeine gets the blame.

I'm right there with you! If I sleep in on the weekends, I wake up with a headache because I haven't had my usual massive quantities of caffeine. I'm trying to cut down too.

p.s. the body does develop a physiologic addiction to caffeine if you drink it consistently.

I'm pretty sure it's scientifically proven to be addictive

just count yourself lucky that it doesn't affect you. I need a cup of tea... :p

I love my coffee ritual in the morning. I became hooked on coffee when I was a grad student at the UW. My dissertation advisor said you should go down to this place called Starbucks in the University Plaza (this was before Starbucks was nationally known, around 1986-7). I have been hooked ever since.

I have an espresso machine. I brew 4 shots of espresso that I use to make a large ice latte. I drink at least two of these a day. mmmm....buzzy.

Oh I know what you mean and it seems some people (especially americans) seem to revel in their supposed hardcore addiction to caffeine as if it makes them look cool/a slave to the grind when really they need to get a proper junk addiction or, better yet, laid
    :D

but yeah, I think it is addictive. unfortunately. tis the lamest addiction ever.

Not just Americans, the Germans as well. In fact, they love their coffee so much J.S. Bach composed an entire Cantata devoted to the pleasures of coffee. I guess it is true, however, that it is not quite as manly as shoving heroin suppository up your ass.

I'm not buying this. People just like something to blame shit on. Leave the fizzy drinks alone already if they screw with you.....you'll soon see it's not the drinks.
People need to get some perspective, watch their diet better, take more rest, and more importantly in most cases, more excercise.....stop using these products as excuses. Wimps :o It's pop for crying out loud !!

I certainly can't imagine 2 or 3 Dr Pepper's having much of an effect. I regularly realise I have slept in til 5 minutes before my seminars, run out of bed and stop at the shop to buy 4 cans of Red Bull to wake me up. I never get as hopped up as you'd expect considering that stuff has a LOT more caffeine than Dr Pepper or any regular soft drink.

I do think that people who drink a lot of caffeine regularly probably do develop some sort of physical dependance on it. I drink about 5 cups of tea a day and a lot more fizzy drinks than I'd care to admit. I don't go about saying "oh christ, I need a caffeine fix, I'm well addicted I am" but if I cut it out completely all of a sudden then I'd probably notice some sort of change.

Oh and by the way Jamie, why is it that, whenever you call me clever, I feel you are being sarcastic/slightly mocking? :p I don't mean to come across as a smart-ass. I get the impression you think I'm a bit full of myself, and I'm not. Honest :)

I dont understand how people can be addicted to caffeine. I also thought that soda was the easiest thing to cut out of my diet.
