it's insanely brilliant... watched some Led Zeppelin on it at lunchtime yesterday and i'm pretty sure i could see what Robert Plant had for breakfast through his uber-tight jeans.... it was that clear and vivid.
anyone got one... if so can you tell me how to turn off that 'window' shifting thing that keeps happening.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Congratulations! I have been a long time Mac user. I think they are really fine machines.
When you say shifting windows, I think you might be talking about a feature called spaces or expose. You can activate these features by pressing F8, F9, F10, or F11. F8 is for Expose, which gives you four boxes, and the other keys are for Expose, which shifts the windows around. On the Dock, there is the System Preferences icon, the square with the gears in it. If you open it and look under the first row of items, the Personal heading, there is one called Expose & Spaces. In the Expose panel you can choose no key in the drop down menu, so expose doesn't work. In the Spaces tab, you can turn spaces off. HTH.
If this isn't what you mean, describe it a little more.

I want an iMac but I'm gonna wait for the Mac Pro
expose and spaces is off... it's at its worst when selecting dates in a drop down box on a site... i.e. choosing todays date when on a site trying to book a flight... or if i hover over a hyperlink it just starts going frantic and showing me lots of windows... driving me nuts a bit to be honest.
And it can't be as shiny as My HP IQ772

no it happens with every application.. i can hover over a tool or option in InDesign and i then get about 4 windows all wiggling around on the screen and stuff... i hate it!!!
otherwise its a thing of absolute beauty.
2.4 version.. we got the ram bumped up to 4gb though...
oh its much shinier
anyway, not a sell-out.. been an apple mac user for over 15 years now..

cost us £1150 ($2300) each?
who does that compare with across there?
Sometimes the "Universal Access" feature can cause odd window behavior. Go into system preferences and look under the system line. At the end is "Universal Access." Make sure Zoom and other things are off, and then uncheck "Enable access for assistive devices." See if that helps.

Actually that's about right for us.
I've only read from certain people over there that the markup is too high.
But 500 bucks for memory? You got hosed man.
tried and tried... typing "how do you stop that annoying window shifting thing on OS Leopard" into google just gets me a Zimbabwean double glazing company
me is so cool

we only paid about $200 extra for the memory i think...
Apple does overcharge the shit out of you for memory when you can easily install cheaper memory and get the same effect
nope..
just went onto a holiday website and did a search... as soon as i hover over the search button it just starts flip flopping between my other apps...
That is strange, because the F3 key is undefined in Leopard. You can define to have a function. Control F3 or ^F3 places the focus on the dock. Are you using the apple mouse or a third party mouse?

Using the EyeTV (not to be confused with the Apple TV) I've also turned it into my new bedroom television. The EyeTV is fucking awesome. I highly recommend you look into it.

the F3 key is pre-defined to do the shift between apps function
will do
kidding!
seriously...kudos!
it does look brilliant!
i've never owned a mac. i wanted one when we first got a computer, but hubby was convinced otherwise. NOW he's thinking about it, so when we are in the market for a new computer...who knows? however, i am very pleased with our machine, so i hope not to shell out the $$$ for a new one for a looooooonnnng time.
enjoy!

I am myself like you somehow
Now things are clear. You have one the new aluminum keyboards, and yes on those F3 shifts between apps. Older keyboards use command-tab. This should be easy, I think. In system preferences, go to the keyboard and mouse pane. Once inside, go to keyboard shortcuts. Scroll till you find F3 and uncheck it. You could also update the keyboard software, if it is not up to date.

That should do it, but also remember that the side buttons on the mighty mouse trigger Expose as well, so be sure to disable that.
I do think that Expose can be pretty useful once you get the hang of it. Still, I know it can be a pain the ass initially, especially if this is your first Mac.
