We were pissed off about the hand of God ... but still thought he was amazing. You guys were around to see the Hand of God. Ignorant english people of my age, including my friends and one of my brothers who identifies himself as english rather than scottish ( ) just call him a cheating prick and ignore the fact he was a genius.
His dribbling skills were ridiculous. Whether the finish was the best or not, that other goal against England, the "Goal of the Century" is technically the greatest sporting achievment I've ever seen."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

Ivan Zamorano called... he wants you to stay out of Dunkmans thread
ok.. politics aside.. he's the world's greatest ever footballer... no question.
is he an idiot who took too many drugs, shot journos, became a mafia showpiece, a man of questionable morals???? absolutely he is.. but he's also the greatest footballer ever.oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

Last time I checked, cocaine wasn't generally used as a performance enhancing drug in sports, it's used to get high. Any steroids he took were at the end of his career when he wasn't doing great anyway. Doesn't detract from his brilliance in any way."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -
Amazing skills alright, but I prefer my sporting champions to be a bit more honourable and upstanding.Binary solo..0000001000001111000011100

seriously?
Yeah, soccer players in the States get about as much press as chess players. Growing up, I couldn't name one soccer player.
And the one's I can name now are only from this thread.0 -

I'm not fussed if he shoves anchors up camel's fudds... he's a footballing genius.
in one of those clips he does this thing where he kicks a ball about 30ft into the air vertically and lets it drop and kinda does the same thing again.
that is the very same thing that Gary Lineker once said was the greatest thing he saw him do on a football pitch... Lineker, Platini and Beckenbauer were just in awe ... lineker didnt even try it...
honestly try it... its nigh on impossible to kick a ball straight up into the air, let alone twice with half-volleysoh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

if that description fitted Jimmy Page then would that make him any less talented on guitar?
a footballer can do what he wants off the pitch if he wants... just as genius musicians can as well.. as long as they produce the genius when its needed then whats the issue.oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

Christ, Maradona was even in the world cup you guys hosted, although he was a shadow of his former self and coked up to the eyeballs."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

Although Diego isn't all bad. According to wikipedia:
"In 2002, Maradona said he could not have scored such a beautiful goal if it had not been against the honest English defence, who did not knock him down as most defenses used to do. "They are probably the noblest in the world," he added.""I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

I'll give ya Pele...
I remember when the World Cup came around. I had won tickets and couldn't even sell them for face value at the venue, so I went and got drunk instead.0 -

Kids these days *wanders off feeling old* ... as for your brother I know some kids who are 1/2 Scottish, 1/2 English so they are Scottish for the rugby and English for the footie ...
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?0 -

But at least he's consistent with it. He likes his scottish heritage but he supports England in all sports he likes as opposed to picking and choosing depending on what each country is good at.
Scotland's mediocrity at football could never stop me from supporting them."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -
Jeremy1012 wrote:That is appalling to me. I am 100% scottish by blood but born in England, as is the youngest of my older brothers. The other two were born in Glasgow. The younger one has always considered himself English, much to the disgust of my dad

I think it is a choice their parents made and as that is what they grew up with it's what they have stuck with ... they would always support England and Scotland if they aren't playing each other ... just the one they 'follow'.
Will see what my nephews end up doing as they are both 1/2 and 1/2 as wellSo are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?0 -
The Greatest. Watched a video one time of his Barca and Napoli days, I was amazed at the variation in his goals: lobs, dribbling through and deftly tucking it away, curlers, thunderous strikes, and the freekicks.......
Read his autobiography and it's pretty funny in parts, there's no doubt he's a contrary git who's totally absorbed in himself.0 -
