Yes, malicious..You of all people should no that I joke around but don't attack in this manner..There is a huge difference..
i know....i just couldn't resist.
just sayin, was not the first o be *malicious*....probably not the last. and i don't even know if i'd say malicious really. misguided, incorrect...or just skewed personal opinion? all may fit. point is, while perhaps a bit over-the-line....*technically*...the posts followed the rules in overall respect, although definitely OFF-topic....but again, not my call to make.
i don't think anyone would say/think that this, or anywhere for that matter...is handled 100% evenly/fairly ALL the time. i do think they really TRY to though, and more often than not...really is for the greater good of this little pj cyber community.
as someone else mentioned, i have been to a few other boards as well, tho not often once AET came back...and they had WAY more mods, and way, way, waaayyyyy more uneven handling of posts/threads/members. whatever. it really IS just a message board. i think it's rather easy, and also quite open......but evidently others do not feel the same. differing persepctives to be sure. i overall truly appreciate the environment here and am glad there is/are some to try and maintain it, otherwise i think this board would turn to utter chaos/shite. perhaps some would like that. i would not. so for that, i am happy for how it's maintained, flaws and all.

Jeremy1012 wrote:I am not trying to be difficult or controversial here but either I and many others have become more difficult and inappropriate with our posts here or the board is changing. My gut instinct is that it's the latter
I know you feel it's the latter, but more than likely it is the former. I'm not saying you've become more inappropriate, but typically that is what happens when a forum gets lots of regulars who post a lot. Look at people with very few posts: they're typically more polite and respectful. Then look at the people with the most posts who've been using the forum for a long time: they're typically the opposite. They usually stop caring about the rules as much, make more inappropriate jokes, start acting like they're part owners of the forum, etc. It's a common thing that happens on every forum I've been on. The older the forum is, the more intervention you'll typically see from its moderators.
Please note, I'm saying this is TYPICALLY the case...it doesn't mean everyone on this forum with more than 10000 posts is a jerk and everyone with less than 100 is nice.0 -

oh i disagree!
i think newbies and oldsters are relatively 'polite'...i think it's the 'inbetween'....where the *questioning* and growing pains as it were, occur. newbies are polite b/c they are getting a feel for the place. older members, overall...relatively polite b/c they realize the rhytyms of the place and how to stay/maintain ther membership in the community, thus why they still have posting privileges...tis the inbetweens...or those simply set on self-destruct...why, imo, like to *test the system.* you see the same questions and comments, such as this very thread
...over and over again.
so yea...fuck it...i'm NICE damnnit!chiquimonkey i'm glad i missed people being stupid.

*i say that for dunky..............but sure, i'll be *nice* and add the caveat: imo. just for you...so feel special.

sure.
do notice my *self-destruct* comment in the post.
some like to burn out rather than fade away..................;)
that and the fact that overall i think the mods are kind/generous, they don't want to permanetly ban people...so they give chance after chance after chance. for some, they adapt/learn...for others, it simply emboldens em...and others simply don't care.besides, how many ghosts from christmases past are floating about? haha.

decides2dream wrote:as i said, i cannot even weigh in with an opinion on your specific thread. all i can say is more than likely..in some fashion...it must've violated some rules. did it veer completely off-topic? inappropriate? any disrespect? any/all of the above can cause a thread lock/deletion. c'est la vie.
i find it interesting how people, not speaking of *you* specifically......get *upset* over thread lockings/deletions. there is NO *ownership* here...it is no one's thread. you may start it sure...but that's it. we're on hosted space, so it is what it is. we are free to post, to enjoy this board, follow the forum guidelines, or not...and go elsewhere.
i DO understand what you are saying, to a degree. i don't have that problem really. i think it is glaringly simple. stay on topic. be respectful to others. don't post inappropriate links/private info. simple.
as to that *other* thread, while i didn't see everything, it most definitely went off into territory that got too personal, name-calling....and didn't exactly start off on the right note in any case. i am all for sharing opinions, but there are ways to do so that do not insult others in the process. bottomline...it's their call to make. agree, disagree...c'est la vie. just along for the ride.......:)I just find it annoying when you are in the middle of some discussion and can't finish what you were saying because suddenly the thread is gone. I wasn't claiming ownership of threads either, I just meant ones that i've started.
As for the thing about regular members, this is probably true to an extent. There are just as many new people that don't last a second though because they have no respect for any of the people here etc and they get banned. Whether or not a person with 10000+ posts might think they can say what they want and won't be justly chastised, the reason they might expect that is because they don't expect to be taken seriously. I wonder just how many arguments of that type yesterday or worse between those two have occurred over the years... probably quite a lot"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

Now I don't know who has been banned, but I'm guessing it was for personal attacks or saying quite offending things (which is usually the case).0 -
redrock wrote:I don't think it's a question of newbies, oldsters and inbetweeners... it's a question of personal manners, tempers, views, etc. Nothing to do with how long one has been on the board, all to do with the individual.

However, mods are highly unlikely to ban someone on a first offense. The only people I know of who've been banned since I've been here have been regulars...people who were most likely reported numerous times before they were actually banned. Typically that takes time. That's why I say the older the message board, the more regulars you see who troll, and the more intervention you see from the mods.0 -

True.. I guess if one keeps on being offensive in their posts (whichever 'offensive' behaviour it may be), I guess other board members could get fed up seeing the same stuff over and over again and report out of exasperation.
The board lately has been so full of hate and negativity. It would be good to see it 'nice' again.0 -

Life might seem all about trolling, spamming and flaming, and not being very nice to one another. Good message boards, however, are all about not trolling, spamming, or flaming, and being nice to one another. Once you realise that a good message board is not a reflection of real life but a projection of some kind of social utopia or idealistic experiment, then you can get on with things smoothly. You might feel like one of the Eloi in H.G. Wells's The Time Machine while in real life you're more like a Morlock. However, the bottom line is, when we signed up here, we agreed to stick by the posting guidelines, which are guidelines for a good message board.

Well said sir.
Fact is, the only thing more pointless than arguing in real life, is arguing on this or any other message board. What is the point?
Have a quibble about which beer is best, or wether or not Highway to Hell is a superior AC/DC album to Powerage...but after that, there really is not much point at all, I mean gun laws aren't gonna get changed cos of a rant on the PJ message Pit!

I don't know, I still think people should get banned for saying things that wouldn't be acceptable anywhere else in life. Like you wouldn't start making racist or sexist comments if you were out in public with your friends. I don't know, maybe you would, but if so I wouldn't want you in my community, online or in real space. I also take major issue with the immature, incessant, mean spiriting mocking of others that goes on. It's like the 3rd grade playground in here, without the witty zings.0 -

Er, I only need to walk into any pub around here and I can guarantee I'll hear ample evidence of both, within about the first two minutes. And we're not talking about a rough end of town, either.0 -

Wouldn't it make more sense to try to communicate? People say things, they disagree, they argue. Banning them isn't something I would consider good practice in real life. We see that kind of thing does not work because we only have to look at countries where there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of opinion. Things get said, that's life. We all need to learn how to deal with things that are said to us that are objectionable and we all need to learn how not to say things that are objectionable. Better communication not silencing people. Silencing people is not the answer.
Well that's my opinion anyway.NOPE!!!

you get banned for life but you can still PM? I don't get it.
It creates contrived comments b/c people 'hold back' so 'oh no I don't get banned' from the precious msg board
like God forbid I say some folks with 30 billion posts are hypocrites...
<runs away before I get banned>And if I do I'll talk to you later Jeanie, Love ya!!!
